I'd really love to meet Thomas one day and talk turkey with him just about drums and music. He's always been a huge inspiration on me, and I'm always blown away by his playing. Thomas Lang, if you reading this, I love what you do, man!
yup just got my set with that measure on the BD, DW sends an extra batter head with it, the reso head has little holes line up near the lugs positions all around it, I like the port hole but with this one no need to do it; the sound i can capture with just 1 AKG D112 out of it is without EQing a combination of attack with fat sound! They are awesome!
I'm primarily a sax-man but also a new drummer as well, and oped for a black Ludwig (chrome snare) kit about a year ago. Your Drumeo tutorial is super, and almost all a guy needs to go from 0 to 60. I'm hooked on the cans and practice 1-3 hours a day; still quite a ways to go to 10,000.
Oh Brother..I am soo wrong Thomas, my set is a 7 piece DW collectors too, made with Purpleheart wood! The color is between purple-red-pink I can not even define it in the color spectrum but they are beautiful looking! Now, my favorite color is Blue in any spectrum! but these drums and its color are very special, the sound? even better!
Harry Main!!! besides being one of the most officail BMX'ers in the game you play drums too that's sick! if you're interested about his drums check out Thomas's DVDs they cover everything. I'm pretty sure TL plays his drums wide open most the time depending on what music he's playing, he rarely muffles the drums. The bottom heads on the snares and toms are a little tighter than the top heads that way the drums can resonate longer without having to tighten the top head too much, and the top heads on the snares and toms are fairly tight but not too tight to the point where the sound is choked, basically inbetween being really tight and all the way loose. His bass drums have no muffling inside them, he uses a small pillow on occasion, and likewise the bass drums are tuned the same as the toms, bottom head's a little tighter than the batter head, that's how he gets so much low end punch & projection from the bass drums b/c the batter head is fairly loose to get the lower pitch but the tighter bottom head allows for the drums to project and ring longer. making sure each tension rod is the same tension plays a big part in getting a good sound from the drum as well b/c when all the rods are the same tension, the drum rings longer b/c the drum is in tune with itself, hence why TL's drums sound so good.
You can only play like that if you play on black drums! (btw I have seen him play on clear acrilics so I don't know how true he holds to playing only black drums . I bet he has a pink kit in the garage that he jams out on when no ones looking)
Is Thomas's garage finished/climate controlled? He says he just has to go to his garage to pick a different drum if he needs it. I hope the garage isn't a bad place for the drums.
200-something cymbals... hot damn that's a lot of quality Meinl cymbals! Yeah go figure when one quality Meinl cymbal costs like 300-400 € and that times 200...
watch this video of thomas lang: watch?v=lrC-JruZ-hs Here he installs the may miking system, fun video to watch and most part (once they start installing) is in his garage.

I have a whole truckload of snares, and over 200 cymbals to choose from. Dear Thomas Lang, I wish I were you.

That snare and stack cymbal sound amazing.
just putting this out there when he says "roto-tom", his actually saying "RATA-tom", which is actually what DW calls their "octabans"

"I love the 23" because DW isn't selling enough of them and I needed to endorse it. So far TWO pro drummers use one!" :P

I wonder how many pairs of sticks he actually owns

Anybody know why he switched to DW? Yellow kit? Ask Tony Williams and Dennis Chambers why their kit is yellow.
Umm... the "Extra Dry" Crash and Hats he went over are actually Byzance Darks.
