It had a "new metal" sound rather than the metal influenced hard-core sound they had previously. Listen to Destroy the Machines or Breed the Killers; totally different sound. To be fair Slither was way ahead of its time sound wise.
I love that album from the moment I heard it. Earth Crisis is one of the greatest examples of natural musical evolution. From the band Framework until this album, plus everything they’ve done since their reformation. One of the greatest bands of all time, of any genre. Period.
@@moneenerd People like to think bands are underrated because they like to think most people haven't heard them when that's not true at all because even people like me who were heavily into nu metal around this time knew exactly who Earth Crisis were. They played at the first Ozzfest too back in the 90s which really helped them get their music out there.

@@ricksterdrummer2170 Yup. When Earth Crisis first started releasing music in the early 90s they were super divisive because of their stance on veganism and because they were one of the first bands in the hardcore scene to bring a highly notable metal influence to the genre. This album got written off by fans as their "nu-metal album" (and sort of lead to their original breakup) so it's a bad example, but Firestorm had a massive influence on the scene
Yeah man. It was so weird when this came out, everyone was so disappointed. This was kinda bfore the internet for a lot fo people too so no one had any ideas about how it would sound so everyone bought the cd and was instantly bummed out. This tune fucking rules tho, always has.
Do they still play any of the tracks from Slither live? I got to see them on tour for this album back in 2000 with Walls of Jericho, In Flames, and Skinlab.
I saw them in 2000 as well (w/ Darkest Hour, and Reach the Sky) Their opening song was from Slither. The opening song was absolutely bad ass with the guitar loop effect.
Breed The Killers is so underrated. I hate Slither when it came out, maybe it's time to revisit. I always loved this track though, it's a fucking banger. It sounds like what Twitching Tongues do now
I can't believe I FINALLY found this song! I saw it on the Fuse channel years ago but couldn't remember the name of the band just the word 'nemesis' and the chorus! FUCKIN' LOVE THIS SONG! Woulda been perfect to open Pacific Rim with. Lol
Was this song ever featured in a video game soundtrack? Like an old Tony Hawk or racing game or something? I haven't heard it for like 15 years, but I definitely know I've heard it somewhere else.
Man, people HAAAAATED Slither when it first dropped, but idgaf. I'll say it. It's their best album. Fight me.
completely agree
Why would anyone hate on this awesome shit?

Force-fed delusions from the overseer's hands
Won't swallow a doctrine that denies the truth
Most absorb the sickness, saturated in the vile, immersed
The weak fall quickly to blind conformity in line
I turned myself into a monster
To fight against the monsters of the world
I spared myself the pain they'll suffer
When it all finally comes to haunt
The source of the collapse is what taught to pity
Portray themselves as victims, they're the antagonists
Dilute to breakdown the ones who resisted with force
Paint their self-defense as acts of aggression to all
I turned myself into a monster
To fight against the monsters of the world
I spared myself the pain they'll suffer
When it all finally comes to haunt
Surrounded by demons that brand me a devil
Each single one thirsts for my blood
Encircled by demons that rush from the shadows
I hold strong, repel their attack
Surrounded by demons that brand me a devil
Each single one thirsts for my blood
Encircled by demons that rush from the shadows
I hold strong, repel their attack
No I, I won't submit
No I, I won't relent
I turned myself into a monster
To fight against the monsters of the world
I spared myself the pain they'll suffer
When it all finally comes to haunt
Madness is now what is seen as normal
Impulsiveness has been set unchained
So few question what is encouraged
Locked inside of an alien's cage
Amen 🙏
