Love this series. Cup of coffee, sit back and just watch and learn.....There's is always something I didn't know before or wants me to read about/research further. Great episode! Also, looking forward to the review on the SPC131P1. Thanks!
Excellent video! Love the look of that Seiko. I have a Citizen Eco-drive perpetual calendar & chronograph watch. I never had to set the date again so far after its initial setting up.
If that's something you just can't live with, try a radio or GPS controlled model. I would go GPS, as I doubt the radio signal will still be broadcasting in 81 years :)
Nope. Only three times every 400 years. You didn't have to worry about it in 2000 and needn't worry about it in 2400. Hope that helps reduce your anxiety level.
You’re awesome Marc! Thank you for the info. This watch is great. I would like to see you explaining the technical aspects of high end watches at least now and then. I know you’re very busy, but once in a while!
I just wanted to say thank you for making the videos and I love the Seiko in the video too. I think I found my next watch purchase. Ive always wanted a nice seiko chrono anyway. lol
Seiko SNP039P1 premier kinetic perpetual calendar with leap year correct. Fantastic, as are the other similar models, yes I know its not mechanical, but its a fantastic watch I have had for sometime. Fantastic reviews and information Marc, like your easygoing no nonsense approach. Brilliant.
Just ordered thanks for the video i haven't bought a watch in over 10 years and it just started to bug me today i had to keep changing the day every other month and this even has the day and year and month so it's a huge W :)
How could 62 people give this video a 👎 ??? It’s only an explanation of something. There’s no opinion involved. He’s not dissing anyone’s favorite watch. SMH
My seiko solar radio wave model XS055J with caliper 7B42 purchased from Japan actually have this functionality + solar + radio wave. Bought it since 2012 but didn't know it had this functionality but it is very well appreciated. It's quite a shame mine got black coating on the stainless steel so now it cannot be restored with brushing and polishing.
Mostly on Digital Watches for a Example a Casio watch has a Perpetual Calendar with Automatic Year date recognition sets the Date correctly on any year
Didn't know about this model. I've got three of the Seiko 8Fxx perpetuals with 10-yr lithium batteries made between 2001 and 2003 from the date codes on the back. They were introduced by Seiko in 1999. Just replaced the battery in one of them that was made in 2001 - it's the third battery (counting the original). If you do it when it starts the double-tick warning and get the new one in within 3 minutes, it doesn't require reprogramming the year, month and date before closing it up. I've also got a perpetual kinetic auto-relay made in 2013. Provided you don't let it run down completely in long-term storage, it never needs reprogramming. The battery in this one that lasts five years - at best with zero chrono use and near zero calendar use - more like three years in practical use - defeats much of the perpetual calendar convenience other than end of short month - while imposing reprogramming year-month-date every few years. Kinetic is practical if worn almost daily to keep it charged, and solar would be much more practical.
Adjusting the Citizen E510/E710 perpetual calendar is kind of "fun" ;-) I always have to refer to the booklet (itself, hard to find) if I have let the watch run down (very, very seldom, but twice in 12 years)
I'm not a "Watch-ie", but I'm interested in the calendar, and you know your stuff. Thanks. Too bad that the 400 year leap year rule came in to effect in the year 2000 (that overrode the 100 year non leap year rule) so the general public wasn't given the opportunity to learn that we don't always have leap years every 4 years.
I enjoy your educational and informative videos. This Seiko needs only to be reset every 100 years and most importantly every 2 years when changing battery. So, as much as watch is nice, it totally negates the advantage of owning perpetual calendar and not having to adjust it. Respectfully :)
Long Island Watch please review the Seiko SRP767K1 I'm looking forward to buy one, I checked your online store and is not listed, you guys don't carry that one ? It's white dial, classic hands... with a leather straps have to look gorgeous
The only thing that bugs me is that they could've made the date indicator hand a little bit more longer. Just a personal preference but love the watch otherwise. Oh and they could've avoided the tachymeter haha Thanks for the info as well.
Mark, I bought this watch a couple of years ago. I've always had the day jump what appears to be 12 hours "early" and let it slide. I thought I had fixed a couple of days ago by going through the step again but it still does it. Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong or how you would bring the day increment 12 hours back. It certainly isn't as easy to set up as an automatic. Thank you for your great videos and much continued success!
Hey Mark are there any Perpetual Calendar complication's for under 10,000 USD? I really wanted a Grand Seiko but noticed that they do not have any. All of the other's that I have seen used online seem to be 20,000+
Mark I always enjoy watching your in-depth reviews of watches and how to set them up. My question is when fall arrives what is the procedure for rolling back the time one hour on the 7T86 movement for this watch? Is it safe to turn the crown counter-clockwise or will it damage the movement?
Doesn't matter. When you set the time by pulling the crown out to the 2nd position, it cancels all alarm settings. After setting the time on the main dial using the crown, you use the pushers to set the alarm subdial to the same time. At the time sync you push the crown back in. The date changes when the subdial time at the six hits midnight (i.e. 24/0 hours), not the main dial and it doesn't affect the date in time setting mode. Even when the alarm is set, the internal IC knows the current time on the 24 hour subdial and it will still change the date when it hits midnight. You're thinking all the day, date, month and year are mechanically driven by a wheel train off the main hour hand. They're not. It's all electronic with the IC kicking stepper or ultrasonic motors.
Man this watch solar powered would be phenomenal, but I'm still buying it like it is. If or when it comes out in a solar version I will have another one. I currently have the citizens perpetual calendar but it is less convenient to operate functions, this seiko is much easier. Love the classic looks of the seiko perpetual calendar. 👍😎👍

Just bought this watch recently. Before I took it to a watch shop to put a battery in it the day and date was correct, after I got it back it show a totally different day and date (tuesday instead of Saturday and January first instead of November 13th). How come and what should I do?
I just bought a Seiko SPC129P1 I m unable to set date in my watch... Chronograph hand shows +1 when put to stop watch mode... I would be really grateful if you could explain me in an easy way to resolve it.
Great video, love the watch, online it says there is a black dial, Arabic numerals version in 40mm, is that right the information online is ambiguous. Can't wait for the review!
Great information. I'm looking for a "nice" one" with these, but they always to be expensive, out of my price range and / or don't have one with all the features that I want (actual numbers, NOT indices, hand applied or not, and that it's not look to dressy!I just don't dig them, AND yes about half way through, I gave the vid a thumb's, and hit the subscribe button!.This one sounds awesome. I've been looking at the Seiko site for a while, and do not remember seeing this. I've been considering a Citizen because, as you noted, the recharge capacity it has, but that's hit or miss. For a little while I've also been considering a Longines Master Collection L2.755.4.78.6 but damn their expensive) Day and date, that really all I care about. With it (Seiko) being a quartz drive, I'd assume that they're fairly resilient? I am admittedly rough on a watch, less so now as recently I've since changed jobs, but still, I'd say fairly a bit rough. Thanks for any help you can give!
Really enjoy this series. If you think it's relevant, why would one model of Casio (PAW/PRW 5000) not be able to be shipped to the U.S. per Amazon? I don't get it and have been trying to get one for some time.
I don't expect perpetual calendar automatic watch has an affordable price. But is there an affordable annual calendar automatic watch? (Of course Seiko 5 should be a great choice if you want calendar (not annual nor perpetual) automatic watch)

At what time in the day is it best to set up your perpetual calendar mechanical watch?(At what hour?)
very good I understand that now
But the Orient SPORTY AUTOMATIC EU00002D and EU07008D are Multi-Year Calendar watches, and they are pretty affordable as well.
That looks like the 6106/6119 "Saucer" Sports Diver case, is it?

Can you please post the picture of the movement? Is the movement made of plastic plates and wheels or a mix of metallic plates?
Good video Mark, very informative...had a question, are master calendar watches the same as the perpetual calendar watches?
No. The Master Calendar is a JLC term, and just refers to the display of calendar variables. It does not adjust for months less than 31 days.
Long Island Watch Thank you for clearing that up, appreciate it
It would be interesting to find a watch that would also compensate for Daylight Savings Time.
I guess that would be an atomic or radio watch.
that's exactly what it would be.
Except for the leap year ending in 00 which will count 28 days in Feburary
