    This is a message that needs to go beyond YT and social media, it needs to be in the darrs and khutbahs in our masjids and madrassahs - more importantly, it needs to be practised and taught by parents to children as part of tarbiyyah.

    I appreciate your perspective on consumerism and how it imperils not only the environment but the social fabric of society as well. I've been exploring Islam for the past few months, and I'm reading the Clear Quran for the first time. I'm only a few chapters in, so I'm not familiar with Quranic theology, especially in terms of sustainability, materialism or wealth/income distribution. But I do enjoy the journey I'm on, and I'm always in search of guidance and knowledge for how to gauge if I should revert. Your videos are direct, personable and founded on reason and logic. Thank you for your efforts to educate the YT community!

      Masha’Allah! Many of the comments here make me happy to see - I wish you all the best on your journey in learning more about Islam :) I have been in your same place and took the Shahada at my local masjid in July 2024, Alhamdullilah. My fiancé is a Muslim from Gaza and part of what drew me to learn more about Islam was his patience, his ability to be joyful or content even still with what he had, even if what he had was nothing… and I realized that if I had nothing, but also didn’t have God, then I would *really* have nothing - that is true bankruptcy… I was drawn to how closely Islam aligns with my “politics” and moral principles already, including environmentalism and conservation efforts. So seeing this video now is very comforting because I am familiar with terms like planned obsolescence or anti-consumption, and all the time, whenever I learn something new about Islam it only strengthens my iman further and reaffirms my place here.
      May Allah SWT continue to guide you on the Straight Path, and may you be rewarded doubly for your struggles and good efforts 🤲🏻 Ameen

      Like me, your curiosity and desire to learn and to do things the “right way” primes you for Islam well I think, haha 🤍 Many reverts, myself included mention the same praises you do about Islam - that it sounds logical, reasonable and fair, and seeking credible sources is always emphasized. My biggest word of advice from personal experience is to “just go.” I was nervous to even visit a mosque for the first time until I felt like I was knowledgeable enough to walk through the door, but my fiancé and another Muslim friend of mine insisted I “just go” anyway - they don’t expect you to know everything :) not even born & raised Muslims “know everything” 😅 I’m sure they’d be very kind, friendly and generous, and would love to answer any questions you have! There’s an open house event at my local mosque every week for non-muslims who are curious, I ended up reverting that same day! Personally, that was the greatest decision I’ve ever made and ended up being the most important day of my life, Masha’Allah ✨

      @@sabrsiren I thank you, brother, for the kind words and encouragement as I continue my search into Islam. I totally get the idea behind "just go and see"...I mean, there's really no prerequisite to stepping forward in faith, and it's not necessary to be fully versed in all aspects of the faith before stepping through the doors of the masjid. I too admire that that Islam closely aligns with my political worldview, and I've been researching orgs like Muslims for Progressive Values to see how my ideology fits in with the theology of Islam. My journey through the Quran (though slow, and in the early stages) is truly an enjoyment,, and I've managed to find various resources on the web to assist in my understanding. My hope is to find a helpful guide along the way to share my thoughts, questions and concerns with as my knowledge deepens. Thank you again for sharing your suggestions with me!

    Alhamdulillah, our family lives a simple yet fulfilling life. Though we sometimes struggle to afford our necessities due to financial burdens, but we trust in the mercy of Allah, for He provides as He wills. Dear Muslims, remember that with every hardship comes ease, and this dunya is only temporary. Strive for your Akhirah.

    Alhamdulillah Sheikh, I have a full fledged no buy intention for the entire year. Also Sheikh I noticed its not just small unnecessary items like a liptick or lotion or face cream, even in terms of food I have stopped overshopping. My pantry is already full of lentils and beans and I should buy only few fresh fruits or vegetables, I have no need for all those stocks and stocks of food. Alhamdulillah I have enough and I realize Allah will question me about every single grain I have and item I have stocked. May Allah guide us all from temptation and greed. Aameen.

    We all must start to overthinking our consumption…Switch off the light in rooms you are not in, turn off the water, wear your clothes more than 1x, wash full loads of laundry, use less detergent, walk more instead to take your car, buy less unnecessary thing, make a no buy year for clothes, buy seasonal fruits and vegetables, buy your food from local farmers ( eggs, meat and vegetables) ,no ramadan presents, bring your own food at work, repair broken stuff or go to a thrift store, learn to sew, these are small steps but I never saved so much money and I could support a Family in Gaza, and still have enough money to put in the side for rainy days.

    Islam is the reason I became a Muslim minimalist. Now I know some people on here will get triggered by this but if, like this man said, we pay attention to where our food comes from, where our clothes come from, where everything comes from, there is no other way.
    We can all do better.

    Imam Tom bringing the ummah out of the darkness of consumerism into the light of sustainability. ❤
    It was cute when he said "Mr . Walmart", though. I am old enough to remember when Sam Walton (the founder of Walmart) used to be studied in business school as a role model for how to build a valued workforce (treating employees as "associates", giving them ownership in the business, rewarding loyalty). Then he got bought out and his ethics made irrelevant, 'cos that's how corporations roll.
    If - no, actually WHEN, we the ummah stop bankrolling cheap and exploitative corps like Walmart and its fiendish cousin Amazon, THEN we will be on the path to more prophetic living.
    So get out there! Show your thrift stores some love! Share tools and accessories. Mend your broken and torn items. Stop buying new things if at all possible!

    We should donate and recycle instead of throwing things away. You can recycle clean clothes that have holes/stains at H&M stores, there's a drop off bin near the checkout. You can recycle shoes that are too worn out for donation at Sports Basement. If you need to buy something, consider going to a second hand store since it's better for the environment and cheaper.

    Absolutely. Thank you for this video. Allah SWT says in the Holy Quran:
    "Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful."
    We should be growing food for our families and have Muslim farmers, Muslim tailors, Muslim car-makers, the list goes on and on. Convenience is a tool of Shaitan. We desperately need more Muslims not just working for some big name company in the West that has no care for Islamic ethics, but rather making their own companies that are just as good if not better and ensuring all the work is done with utmost care for ethics and consciousness of God's Judgment. And there shouldn't be a concern for making profit, every Muslim company should be nonprofit in nature and solely existing to serve other Muslims or oppressed people with as much care for doing business with thought and intention of pleasing Allah. Anything less is a huge disgrace against our Lord, and He will hold us accountable.

    • @JJ-qd9yl
      @JJ-qd9yl 8 днів тому +1

      Profit is not an evil thing as long as you spend it well on yourself, family and charity but you are absolutely right! We need to do better as Muslims, creating wealth (secure not necessarily rich) as a community instead of slaving away for a paycheck

    • @amatulfulani6390
      @amatulfulani6390 5 днів тому +1

      Uh, people need to make a living and feed their families, so your statement towards the end is very incorrect. The sahabah were merchants and traders. They still made a living.

    • @malekibrahim7697
      @malekibrahim7697 5 днів тому

      @@JJ-qd9yl This is still not totally true though imo; just because you are spending profits on your family, charity, health, etc. does not make the profit halal. Islam holds us to a very high standard of ensuring that even our income is from as pure of a source as possible. If part of your profit/business model involves the subjugation of people at some step in the chain, whether intentional or unintentional, if you could have been reasonably aware of that subjugation, you will be held accountable. But again, Allah is the Most Just, so if it is not possible for you to have known some evil that was contained within your means of creating profit, then I am sure Allah will be Just in assessing your situation, and won't hold you accountable, but that is between us and God solely.
      I do agree though that profit is not inherently evil, it is just that it demands a higher standard of scrutiny and in my opinion it is just better to follow in the footsteps of the Prophet and all Prophets and give generously from your wealth and strive to earn a pure/honest source of income.
