Heffernan has had a few really good comebacks. My favorite is in another episode when Carrie says "We could live in our car for all I care." And Heffernan responds with "Great, I hope your father likes living on the roof."
But the 2-year-old spy line is pretty good too.

One of the funniest sitcoms to date. Each episode was funnier than the last. The episode when Kelly and Deacon had that portrait made of Carrie with the big arm, and Doug with the big forehead and rabbit teeth. Hilarious!!!!

Almost the same situation occurs in season 3 when IPS goes on strike and Doug is out of work for several weeks. There is an episode where he sleeps all day and does nothing, he is is completely listless much like Carrie here.

If you love your job... and you lose it... you become depressed. No amount of exercise or eating fixes that... the only cure is to get a job you like again.
As someone who deals with severe depression i see the confusion people have between thinking someones lazy when theyre really depressed. Everything makes you sadder...even what always made you smile before

While he was harsh I agree with Doug that she needed that. She was lost and would stay lost and in a deeper depression without a push

Dude... Carrie is showing signs of depression. She got fired from her job... and she's generally bored and has no energy... that's a seriously depressed person.

This show is my current obsession. I keep watching about 10 shows continuously. Carrie and Doug, and Arthur, and the whole cast has such interesting personalities.. I love their interactions. It reminds me 💯 percent of my loving, fun, and fascinating family!!! I really loved my family, and I miss them, 24/7. Diana ps. Some have moved, and some died... So so sad....Mom said TV is like family to me. She was right.. Just like it to me.. memories for me. Diana

Doug was very harsh. When IPS was on srike he did the same thing for weeks. He didn't even came out of their bedroom nor shower. He should have understood and nudged her gently.
Doug was still employed though. Plus, doug is always lazy and rarely pretends to be more than a slacker. I’m sure in that episode Doug said he’d do stuff, but it’s just superficial, it’s not his personality to do anything more than watch tv and eat
Carrie is a big talker but didn’t really back up the things she said she would do. She said she’d find herself but she’s not doing anything she really wants to do, and is procrastinating
She needed a talk. It exploded into a fight, I don’t think it was Doug’s intention to be harsh
