Released in March 1994, Bloodlines is the first Castlevania game that lets you choose your character from the beginning. One of the characters, Eric Lecarde, usually known as "spear dude", is the first spear wielder in a Castlevania game. Spear dude can pole vault 15 feet in the air from a still position, but apparently never took swimming lessons. Years of bleaching have obviously taken a toll on spear dude's hair; his hair is green in every stage, but blonde in every cutscene. The other character, John Morris, or "whip guy", obviously never went to a D.A.R.E meeting about steroids in high school. Also, there is blood: lots and lots of blood. Of course, Europeans don't bleed (scientific fact!), so Konami removed blood from the European release. Source: speeddemosarchi...
At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

I would not be able to commentate that well and speedrun at the same time. This dude is good.
Glad everyone enjoyed the run! I couldn't have asked anything more for a marathon run, Bloodlines has a way of not playing nice when ever it feels like it (as you saw in stage 1).
Once I get this run to sub 30 (only 4 more seconds to cut) I'll basically be done with it. If you want to see more of the game then feel free to drop by my twitch page!
How did you get the level 2 sub-boss to disappear like that? Amazing, amazing, amazing stuff all around.
It's actually one of the easiest speedrun tricks to pull off. If you've played the game much you can probably do it yourself in a try or two!
Basically the Golem boss that appears on the right hand side of the screen after killing water mage has an A.I. that is programmed to back up anytime an Item crash axe is on screen. So if i throw the item crash axe away from him, he'll back up far enough that the game will consider him to be gone from memory and will trigger the other golem with the halberd who appears on the left side. This trick is made really easy by the fact that there is an axe in the candle right before that mini-boss.
You can actually do the same trick to the blue golem sub boss in stage 5, as he's programmed the same way, however this will soft lock the game since making him leave does not trigger the exit from that room and you'll be stuck!

***** Thanks in large part to your runs, I finally managed to upload a successful attempt at beating this game deathless! Obviously far from your level of mastery, and messed up the "boss skip" that I did plenty of times in practice, but hey, I'll take what I can get. Maybe I'll work on serious speed and learn more about "skips" down the road, but it's good enough for now. Thanks again!

This is probably one of the best sega genesis games and best castlevania games in my opinion classic
So cool to see the games that I grew up with still being appreciated (and mastered) today!
No franchise escapes the Genesis-style graphics
except when some snes games look like master system games :o
I remember that game being quite hard. In fact, I'm not even sure I ever reached anything beyond the first two or three chapters of Stage 6. Even reaching Stage 5 seemed like a pain in the ass. Granted, I was a kid when I played it the most and I might have had another go at it as a teenager. But even that was 10+ years ago.
Seeing that vid all those years later, it seems so easy. That man is very good.
So epic. I agree, this game's OST is underrated. Probably the only one I like nearly as much as Curse of Darkness's.
Best Castlevania game ever, besides maybe some of the great DS Castlevanias.

This game is a lot like Rondo of Blood: two characters, stair jumping, item crashes, a boss rush boss, and a weird cloak person. It isn't exactly like Rondo, but it was the best (considering Rondo never released outside of Japan until 2005. Plus Bloodlines is pretty awesome). Funfact: this was the game created next after Rondo. :)
Brandon Andres Actually this game was in development at the same time as Rondo. So was Akumajo Dracula x68. Amazing to think that the 3 best Classicvania's (IMO) were all being made at the same time.
***** That's cool to know. Rondo, Bloodlines, and x68 are the best classic styled Castlevanias ever (Super Castlevania IV doesn't count though since it changed everything that makes a Castlevania by "super-charging it"). :)
Brandon Andres Agreed, CV4 is nice aesthetically and has some nice setpieces, but it's bit too drawn out and unremarkable otherwise for my tastes. The sheer length of a playthrough brings to mind Metal Slug 3 or Gradius V's ridiculously long journey, but without the harrowing intensity of either.
Bloodlines is a better example of "super charging" the series IMO. Pummeling enemies and bosses with item crashes and aggressive tactics never gets old for me, and I enjoy booting it up to blaze through anytime. Still, it has the same sense of weighty action and commitment the Nes games do. A really great take on the series.
And I could write whole paragraphs about what I love in x68, heheh. And Rondo deserves a lot of love too, of course.
Klaige is a monster! Be sure to follow his Twitch channel; he's been working on sub-30 attempts for this game. It does not disappoint.

I can't understand why he's playing this game if he doesn't like it. Also, I hardly understand the comments against Mega Drive's audio chip. Its Fm synthetic sound was amazing and it's still influential on many electronic musicians.

This is a good run, most runs I see are just exploits, like spamming a particular op weapon or something like that. You actually run through quickly and even still play the game, gj!
For all the supposed RNG this seems like a very skill intensive run. Well done.
One nice thing about Bloodlines is that the RNG is most heavy early on in stage 1. After than really only the harpies in stage 3 and one fight in stage 6 have much RNG that's actually important to work around.
Lecarde is definitely more RNG heavy than Morris through.

in super metroid you can save the animals or let them die. "saving the animals" implies that you gonna have to go and save them, but also implies that you will waste more time on the speedrun. sometimes they choose to "kill the animals", well, not "killing" them but let them die. and yes, is the most well known highlight on the entire event

Jeez, this runner and the couch constantly talk over one another as well as the announcer chick. 27:38 is a really good example where the runner doesn't even acknowledge that she's talking, it's like everyone revolves around him and he's only aware of himself lol.
