  • We bought a second K&H cat house to replace the one we bought a few weeks ago. I also built a platform / shelter for the new cat house that I will put in a separate video. Leon and Edith love their new house!

    I actually changed my mind on this. If you have just one cat...or two cats that will snuggle, I think the smaller one is your best bet.

    Cats will not stay in a structure that is flapping around from windy storms.....
    We tried this and cats did not like it so we built our three feral cats a very sturdy two story house lol....
    We put a wooden patio style roof on it so rain would not come inside and we put it up off the ground also to help keep it dry....
    We caulked it and painted it as a way to help keep them dry and warm....
    It's also insulated with heated pads...
    We had to consider all elements to keep them comfortable and safe ....
    We already have four inside Kitty's so we want the ferals to have a nice outside home.....
    Bless you for being kind enough to care cause that's a lot more than some would do ♥️

      One thing I can say for sure about cats is - you never know. My cats loved the small green house but I have also heard stories about cats that don't like it.

    These houses wont keep a cat warm or dry. Why not get a storage bin and make a secure house for them or a store bought house made for the elements? I had 3 of the smaller ones you have here and its junk. They also sell it in a larger size but it dont protect them from anything. USually if you feed an outdoor cat you will have more then 1.

    The cats are so cute..they seem tame. Let you touch them and come when you call. can you bring them in the protection and warm of your house? The cats seem to 😍💕💜❤️Thanks for caring for them.

      missfloflowers - the dark grey cat (Leon) is much tamer than Ethan. Ethan was never interested in coming inside, even though we tried to get him to. We are now in the process of converting Leon to an inside / outside cat, and he is doing very well with that. Ethan, it breaks my heart to say, got run over by a car about a month ago. Our family, and Leon of course, are devastated. It was horrible, but quick, thank God. Still gut wrenching to think about. We miss him terribly. I hate to even call this a bright-side, but what happened does put us in a better position to bring Leon inside. We didn’t want to bring Leon in and leave Ethan outside, because Leon was kinda his caretaker, and we didn’t feel good about separating them. We are bringing him in now a little at a time to get him comfortable. Thanks for the suggestion. 🙂

      @@PatrickParsonWorkshop So sorry to hear about Ethan, that would be gut-wrenching, but like you said it was quick, thank you, Lord. That's the chance we all take with feral cats and I'm very encouraged to watch your loving videos.

      @@josie4peace - Thank you for your sweet reply, Wendy. Leon has been a totally inside cat for about a year and a half now, and he is very happy. We got a new kitty friend for him at the shelter about ten months ago and they love each other.

    These cat houses don't work at in the rain, sleet, snow, strong wind, etc. They are prone to leak really bad. They have to be reinforced with a tarp, placed under a roof/ledge/porch, etc. and sometimes weighted down with something else.

    • @PatrickParsonWorkshop
      @PatrickParsonWorkshop  3 роки тому +4

      Correct. They are made to be kept under cover. In the Description on Amazon, it says: Perfect for cats that prefer to sleep in garages, porches, barns, or even in colder parts of the house. They should probably make it more clear that it isn't made to sit outside in the weather.

      @@PatrickParsonWorkshop We have used the smaller house successfully outdoors. We bought a slightly larger dog house from Amazon and put this house inside of it. Keeps it protected, and elevated a few inches off the ground. Works great and our elderly outdoor-only cat loves it.

    Thanks for making this video. I was on the fence about the larger a frame, but only have one cat. They have a smaller a frame on Chewy for cheaper than Amazon until Dec 1st. I love K&H quality so far.

    I have TWO outside cats and this video showed me NOT to buy the smaller house! I thought it was rather small, by the description. You also introduced me to the larger, A-frame house that WILL accommodate TWO cats! THANK YOU!

    • @PatrickParsonWorkshop
      @PatrickParsonWorkshop  3 роки тому +2

      I hope that works out for your cats. After buying this bigger house, we learned that our cats actually preferred the smaller one. We would come outside some mornings, and they would each be in a different house...or both in one house...but most mornings, they were both in the smaller house. You never know with cats!

    A family the next street over got a kitten (now 2 1/2yrs) & doesn’t provide shelter food vet visits or anything. It’s covered w/fleas so I’m in the process of taking care of that as well as getting him fixed. I just got the small K&H w/o heating pad but got a self warming pad instead. I’ll be weighing it down with a larger square slate paver. I have a metal outdoor table w/bottom shelf that should fit the small cat house in between then a tarp over the table to block the snow wind & rain. I saw a picture w/ the small house inside a plastic dog house with the KH house sitting on top of bricks so it doesn’t sit in water. I’ll be going to garage sales looking for something similar for the future. We’ve never had a cat so it’s all a learning process.

    I just got the brown A frame one as my two ferals don't fit well in the other one which I also have. One of them has their bottom out a bit as any given time. I raised them off the deck 8" building stands from 2x4 lumbar and have a plastic table with four legs which is over them very close to the top which extends to cover a decent amount front to back. I'm going to put out the A frame today and see?? It is large so hope it's as cozy, but it's 40 watts vs 20 which my green one is so? Hoping as it gets really cold and snowy here. Thank you for the review... I wish my husband was on board as much as you are :)

    I bought an a frame that is bigger but the same. And then I bought a double wide just like the one on the right only wider. My cats like to be alone and no more than one cat will go into the shelter at a time. The next time I will get smaller ones since only one cat will stay in there and it takes up too much room otherwise

    • @PatrickParsonWorkshop
      @PatrickParsonWorkshop  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, after I bought the bigger one and had both houses on the porch, they went between the houses. Sometimes both would be in the bigger house, sometimes together in the smaller one, and sometimes in separate houses. Hard to predict what cats will do...that's why they're cats. : )

    Cord looks proper with the cover on it for the second one.Neither shelter looks to be insulated which makes zero sense because they have heated pads for a REASON.ALL the manufacturer's i have looked at are just CHEAP first ,,quality second.If someine is looking ffor a shelter with a heated pad,it NEEDS to be winter proof fully insulated and large enough to hide from the wind/elements.

    • @PatrickParsonWorkshop
      @PatrickParsonWorkshop  3 роки тому +1

      If, by insulation, you mean a dedicated layer of traditional insulation (closed cell foam, or fiberglass), then no, I don't believe these shelters have insulation. Most materials offer some level of insulation, so the walls of this house do provide a fairly tight package and with a heat source inside (the pad) and the natural heat coming from the cat(s), it does stay much warmer inside the house than outside the house. I put a thermometer in the house, and when it was five degrees outside, it was 50 degrees inside. Fifty degrees is a great sleeping temperature for a cat that is used to having no shelter. These shelters are built well...quality materials. I've had this one for 3 1/2 years and it is working perfectly.

    Thanks for the video. I live in Turkey and we always share our cities with a lot of cats. One thing on the video ı find odd is that both houses have two doors!! Why is that? There is no reason for a second door, and it would be warm with just one door. Well, the ones we have come with only one door anyway...By the way, I also think the smaller one is much better. Best regards.

    • @PatrickParsonWorkshop
      @PatrickParsonWorkshop  2 роки тому +2

      Hello Hande. Yes, I agree it would be warmer with just one door. I believe they put one on each end so the cat can get away if a predator, like a fox or coyote tries to come in the door....they can escape out the back door. Thanks for watching!

  • @franciabathaw3648

    • @PatrickParsonWorkshop
      @PatrickParsonWorkshop  3 роки тому +1

      You may want to set up the door on the opposite end to swing only out...that way, your cat can get out that side easily.

    how do you keep the wind from blowing them around?

    • @PatrickParsonWorkshop
      @PatrickParsonWorkshop  3 роки тому +1

      It never got windy enough to blow them off the porch, but if you had really high winds, it might happen I guess. On our porch, there were shrubs around, so they kinda acted as a barrier for the wind, and would probably help keep it on the porch if a really big wind came up.
