- If your car won't start and seems dead after the battery was hooked up wrong or jump started backwards, this video will show you how to fix it. This is specifically for GMC Yukon, Denali, and Yukon, as well as Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado. But it will also help you fix other makes and models that use a mega fuse.
To purchase a new mega fuse or the tools I used in this video, click on one of the following links:

How about on a riding lawnmower?
Thanks that helped a lot. I would look at that fuse and was not to sure if that was it but it was and my 2014 chevy 2500hd is up and running.
Nice truck
Hello farm dad...!!NEED HELP!!
My bike's battery was low so i took it out and while charging i put the wrong terminals that is +ve to -ve and vice versa.
It was charging like that for about 20 min then the battery started making a whistle sound and also there was some smoke coming out of it. Then I quickly turned off the switch , the battery heated because of it for quite a while..
So is the battery dead?
Or should i charge it correctly this time?
Should i put it back in my bike?
I haven't done this, but there's a decent chance you damaged the battery. I would charge it correctly and give it a try and see what happens. Batteries can explode so do this safely in a way that battery acid wouldn't damage anything if it did explode. I'm doubtful it would at this point.
I have a Lexus ES 330 and put jumper cables on backwards, now the car won't do anything at all. Is this something that I can fix myself or does it have to go to the shop?, If anyone has an answer inbox me.
Gotta check your fuses
I reversed the polarity on my car recently. The fusible link was fine. Fried the ECM
@@fabio40 well that didn't work according to design. I'd replace that fusible link and make sure your car has the right size in it.
In a 2007 mustang hooking up the battery backwards will fry the ecm and a lot of other things. That is why I am here. What a head ache.
Daggone!
@@FarmDad It even fried the radio amps. I will be chasing this one down for some time yet. Ford has a poor design in this department. Lol. Sure should have been fused for this. You know it is going to happen at some point.
@@ajw6715 I own a 92 mustang. It has fusible link. Different style one though.
@@FarmDad After removing the radio amps the parasitic draw is 40 milliamps so I am pretty sure I have the problem fixed. 2007 mustangs have no protection for backward battery hookup. Pretty sad. The design of these systems should be changed. The computer should have it's own battery so there is no parasitic draw at all on the main battery. Companies can do better. The backward hookup also fried the alternator. Ford has a bad setup in the 2007 mustangs.
I definitely agree that these big manufacturers can do better!
I have a somewhat bad starter and yesterday my mom tried to help me jumpstart my car but while I wasnt looking, she plugged the cables in reverse so now my car is dead...i'm glad to learn there should be a fusable link I can change, i'll let you know tomorrow if it works! Thanks
Awesome. Hope it's an easy fix for you 👊
It helped me, thank you!
Glad to hear it!
What to do of there's no fuse?
It may be like that now
But I know for a fact my 88 gta trans am Pontiac firebird tpi and t5 blew the ecu 2 times over the 30 years my mom had it
From leaving lights on killing the battery then jumping
Every time it blew the ecu
And srt4 be one do it to
Bummer! Never had that problem with the 87 Trans Am we used to have. I think we had that one about 20 years. Great car until it got wrapped around a tree in an ice storm.
@@FarmDad yes man
Horrible winter cars
Mines still mint
Zero accidents
Works same on forester 2009.. hardest part was getting uber around city to find a place who had the fuse in stock
I did the same dumb thing put the battery on backwards but difference between my car and this video is the horn won't stop honking not like the alarm clock but just to consistent honk
It's 2023 my crazy ass with the same thing hooked. Thank you
Hi, what happends with battery in this case? I connected new battery by mistake in dark + on - ...and - on + ...1-2 seconds and realize it and fastly disconected it...did i damaged battery?
Battery should be fine.
holy crap you saved my ass, we have a blizzard coming tomorrow, and i thought i would change my battery. ive only ever changed the ones in the front of the truck, and didn't notice which way that battery set, i hooked up the positive, which was the negative and just hardly touched the other (negative is to small for the Positive side of the battery) and it must have blew it. all i could think was a toe truck and no way they would get it fixed today. worked like a charm. thank you so much for this vid. I know i should have done negative first, but i was in a hurry like a dummy and didn't .
It happens to the best of us! Glad this helped!
my battery was installed backwards on my hummer h3, I changed the mega fuse and still there is no power, won't start, no sounds at all when I turn the key. I tried a jump pack and that didn't help anything. Do you have any recommendations?
Goodness, did it ever start?
Thanks so much bro.
Most welcome
Nice work Dad
Thank you!
0:35 it is true sometimes. Seen it.
What is the name of that fuse and where can I get one
Mega fuse. Any auto parts store carries them.
Thank you so much
Thanks saved a lots time and money
These are my favorite comments. Exactly what I hoped would come from my videos!
Help. My 97 chevy doesnt have a fusable link and it will crank but not fire
Where you able to find your problem?
@@juancasillas7359 yes thank you
I have same problem now what was it on yours?
@@juancasillas7359 ignition control module fried. Replacing it is super easy
Thanks for making this video

I did this on my forester... Works ok, blows the 120A main fuse. Replace and it works fine.
But the guy at the parts store says VW models can blow electronics.
Never trust the guy at the parts store 😜
@@FarmDad thats how memes start
Some UA-cam mechanics say the German cars are over-engineered. Japanese cars a pretty robust.
