This is all great advice. thank you. After renovating three 100+ year old houses for myself I always had to ask myself, "Do I want it to look level to the house or level to the world?'. Sometimes there is a huge difference.
LOL! Everything in my place is crooked (building from the 1890s that survived World War II bombing). And in older German houses there are usually no studs in the walls, because they are made of masonry. Fun fact.
@@MTKDofficial I often wish we had studs because sometimes you drill into the wall and a chunk of rubble and a cloud of dust spills out and leaves a huge hole!
I have 2 more days of work till we are done with our kitchen!!! Been using our temporary kitchen in the basement for 7 months. Totally in the caulk, caulk, caulk stage.
I looked at a display at the home center yesterday. One of the displays included a tall slide-out pantry that would only open a couple of inches before something in the unit snagged and the drawer wouldn't open any further. This is not the function I would want in my kitchen.
@@MTKDofficial Since that display was installed they have...twice. This is the third time, and I'm wondering how the average homeowner should be expected to deal with it.
The installers finished my kitchen a few days ago, and I'm totally in love with it. Because I wanted to keep my old granite (there was a plumbing disaster) they installed the base cabinets first. And were able to save my granite! Then they put the overhead cabinets up. When they walked in they had levels, lasers, shims, and other stuff I had no idea what they were using. And it came out perfectly. I put a level on any place on my granite and it is absolutely spot on. The same for the overhead. This is nothing I would even consider doing myself!
Wonderful advice from a battle tested DIYer! My skill set includes cooking and baking--I can decorate cakes like a pro. DIY construction? Not so much. As expensive as it is, when it's time, there will be professionals doing this kitchen renovation from start to finish. Thanks Mark! This video is another confirmation that I won't be doing this! 😊
Just installed kitchen cabinets in a home from 1910....I used EZ Level cabinet levelers instead of shims. It was definitely worth it.
Ok, now those sound like a way better idea.
Same, i almost didnt spend the money pretty pricey, but after the install..... money well spent for an amateur 😅
All this work was worth it. The outcome is amazing.

ahh. very true...especially in 100+ year old houses. Appreciate the comment!
What were you rolling on to front of fridge looked like wallpaper?
Looks great👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i would have thought you install the wall cabinet after the counters so you can sit it on the counter.
I measured it first then removed the bottom one during install if the countertop. But yeah. That would be that would’ve been easier.

No need for a stud finder for you. Lol

Yikes. They might want to fix that.

Absolutely! The walls and floors are so uneven in my old home ! This is why my cabinet installer and maker are both busy in and out of my home 🥺
