      Both Snälltåget and SJ Euronight stop in Berlin & Hamburg-but the online journey planners show a quicker connection by taking the EC/IC/ICE between Berlin and Hamburg, meaning a lot of people end up boarding in Hamburg (even they started from Berlin!).

      @@ignacypaderewski2685 Since the train spends quite a lot of time in both Hamburg and Malmö, there are trains that depart Berlin after the SJ Euronight and arrive in Hamburg before SJEN departs. Same thing for the southbound trains, there’s an SJ X2000 that leaves Stockholm about 30-50 minutes after SJ Euronight and arrives in Malmö with the train still there. All of these changeovers is to save an hour or two of time from your evening.

    I really don't see this train being a success in the long run. The majority of people who want greener travel are the younger demographics who are not able to pay 170 EURO for a return trip in a couchette. They will instead use Flixbus which has prices as low as 60 EURO for the same route. The majority of people I have seen on this train have been elderly couples who don't normally use trains, but thought it would be a fun idea to try as a one-time thing. I am also appalled that SJ expects you to pay the same price for the two sleeper types, despite how different of a product they are. It's like buying a business class seat for a flight, and then the airline puts half of the business class passengers on an A380 and the rest on an A320.

    • @mikkoylioja
      @mikkoylioja Рік тому

      Snälltåget is more suitable for younger people, at least what I have seen on Malmö Central. Groups with younger people waiting on the platform.

    • @markoobid2005
      @markoobid2005 Рік тому +2

      Firstly, comparing Flixbus to a night train is an insult. The people travelling on Flixbus are only professional masochists.
      Second: the majority of younger travellers are travelling on Interrail pass, and therefore the price goes down massively.
      Third: it's only one sleeper type left now, the WLAB32s. The MUn sleepers were only meant as an interim solution, and are slowly returning to RDC Autoreisezug now.

    European night train drivers are definitely a special breed, they deliver a service enjoyed by many and it looks like it’s getting popular once again, kudos to the whole night crew no matter what service they are plying, just thinking if you can’t book the deluxe in advance because they don’t know what cars will be available couldn’t you tip the attendant a few euros for the upgrade as no one knows in advance of what you are getting, surely that would be ok if you’re willing to pay for the upgrade then it should be fine to offer it to you

In the meantime I know quite a lot about railways (I thought) and I never knew that the old day solution for such a high bridge over a canal in low lands is similar to gaining hights in the mountains: build a loop (such as in Wassen, Switzerland). I'm looking forward to the next episode!

    It seems relying on this train is a pure gamble - random compartment, random schedule if running at all. This is not how air traffic will be decreased.
    Just checked availability on about 20 days from June to August - all sold out with one exception on one date - but a seat reservation only.
    If the demand is so high, there shall be more capacity. If they just refuse to sell tickets because they get their costs covered from subsidies, this is a money drain that will not last for long. All in all - disappointing.
    Excellent video, though.

    Wow! Rendsburg bridge! Nostalgie. Crossed it 4 times on the way to Flensburg and back to Hamburg. Amazing!
    I wonder what the CZ trainset was doing in Flensburg? Did it stay in the depot? For when this train starts from Kiel, it does not visit Flensburg. I travelled to Chech Republic from Flensburg by this train, so I had first to come to Kiel by a kind of rail bus. Had no idea that this train also had to travel from Flensburg to Kiel, probably after us. Although there is only one-way direct rail track to Kiel from Flensburg. Probably the Czech train travelled via Neumunster?

There are some four of those between ARN and BER every day, block time is under 2 hours, and a return will set you back 2,000 kronor or so. No-brainer.
