II International

The international VulcanaSymposium on Canary Islands submarine volcanology organised by @IEO_Canarias and @GeoTenerife takes place annually in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This symposium brings together leading institutions, emergency managers, and guest speakers to share their research on submarine volcanology and adjacent fields. Speakers in this session include:
- Eugenio Fraile Nuez “Long-term oceanographic monitoring over the two most recent eruptions in the Canary Islands: Tagoro submarine volcano (El Hierro) and Cumbre Vieja (La Palma)”
- Antonio Álvarez Valero “From magma source to eruption under Tagoro volcano (El Hierro, Canary Islands): Reading the sentences written in the rocks of the 2011-2012 submarine event”
- Pablo J. González “El Hierro Island: a volcanology community vision after 10 years of its latest submarine eruption”
- Omaira Garćia Rodríguez “IARC-AEMET activities during the 2021 La Palma volcano eruption”
The presentations are followed by a q+a sessions with questions from the floor and our international virtual delegates.
The symposium will always be an open-access event and is streamed online for free to increase the audience of the science. This has allowed delegates from a range of international institutions and organisations to share their research with marine science students and academics.
