Thank you Marty. Because of you and your videos I have been wanting a fishing kayak for nearly 3 years. As of Saturday I am now the proud owner of one!
these are the videos people like to see Marty thank you .. the dogs where just being their self in joying life... you need to talk to pelican about a sit in kayak for off shore fishing i like their hauls.. thanks a gain
Not just for beginners, more like back to the basics. I like it. BTW, I like to use a shopping basket like you find at the drug store. They have handles and they get wider at the top so they hold more.
Marty, I just bought a Catch 100. I have a Tarpon 120, but wanted one that was smaller and more stable. It hasn't been in the water yet. I'm tricking it out with things I learned from your videos. I'm adding a hatch to the stern for access for more modifications, like a skeg. Thanks for all the ideas! Looking forward to more videos!
Sir I have learned more from watching your videos than anywhere else. I have a perception Stryker 11.5 and I'm thinking about adding a fixed rudder to it and I will be following your video for help
Thanks, Marty, for yet another quality video. Look at all that room in the back of the kayak. Enough for a BIGGG milk crate! Excelent videography. ‘til the next one! :-)
Just watched a few videos on rigging up a kayak. Awesome and thank you. Went out on my buddies yak and i am hooked. Cant wait to get one and rig it up with your ideas.
What a great video Marty and thank you for the great content. I've been slowly modifying my first kayak and it's been a lot of fun so far. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you soon
I agree about the build being as much fun as the outing itself. I might suggest a thought. I built two bulkheads using light weight suitcase liner material. This is super lightweight and doesn’t wick water. I secured these tailored bulkhead by using tension rods I got at WM and expand then against the interior walls of the kayak. Now nothing slides around. Part of this reason was to stow everything possible below the water line and on the floor of the kayak. I keep a bare minimum on top and every ounce is an added ounce of instability to the kayak in a wake or choppy water conditions. A boat wake, a tidal shift, and choppy conditions all together and a top heavy kayak is going over. I’m even considering adding 16 pounds fixed to the hull floor. This will lower my CG create ballast and will nearly be impossible to flip or even remain in its side.
Eyyy!!! Been going through and watching all your old videos for the past week cause I need my Zoffinger fix... Get on today to continue watching to see you just uploaded! Good stuff Marty! Keep it up!
You should get an EZ Dock they are plastic floating docks that have a kayak attachment so you can just paddle up to it and roll it on. And I think they are much cheaper than getting a wooden one!
Hey bro need your help . Trying to rig a paddle boat for fishing . The whole 9 yards . Rod holders, fish finder , lights , milk crate, just going all out . Even thinking of adding some pontoons for extra stability.
Because everyone needs their lost items to originate from one location when the kayak turns over. Instead of sinking from various positions fore and aft you can use this crate to organize your pre-sunk items!
Hello Zoffinger, you have really inspired me to chase my dreams and i am also starting up a kayak rental business on trhe other side of the country and i would like to some how ask you a couple questions regarding business start up. I dont want to take much of your time.
Hey Marty I have a question I was just given a Kayak ( 2 seater ) for me and my son but as I tried it I noticed because of my weight it goes really low in the rear and thats with out my gear do you have any ideas to help me out. I really want to start fishing with my son. that kayak I have is a Pelican Apex 129
I’m in your weight class. The Old Town Topwater 106 has a 440 pound capacity, weighs 73 and is very stable even in the high chair position. Retails for $900, but I saved 20% at Dunham Sports by signing up for Store “Rewards” emails.
That kayak is too small for you. Don't believe the 275 rating. It's based upon an older design that was 225 rated. It depends what you're doing? Fishing, touring, etc? Where are you going? Exposed ocean, calm pond, etc? A sit-on will be much easier for someone your size getting in and out, and easier to move around in. A sit-on will also do better with waves breaking over the bow, and are almost unsinkable as the hull is sealed (also easier to remount if you capsize because there's no water to pump out). A sit-in will be more stable and more sheltered, keep you drier, and generally be faster in the water. A sit-in will also have more storage potential, but harder to reach while afloat. For fishing, a sit-on is usually king. I would get a 12', because of the extra weight capacity and it will also be more stable in the water.
Agree with the other comment. Get yourself at least a 12 footer. I actually know someone who fishes from a tandem (from the middle) and it serves him well. It was around 13ft and inexpensive. Check your want-ads like craigslist for them and consider some bigger used kayaks to get yourself started..
yeah man, @ 6' and 275 a 10' yak sat WAY too low in the water for me. 12' was much more comfortable to paddle and fish. I would be lying if I said I didn't have my eyes out for a cheap used Native Ultimate 14.5.
The fabric bits and pieces wear the worst in the sun. But, yeah. I agree. Yet I often let caution to the wind. So, for other peeps out there that want to keep your gear lasting throughout the years; keep it out of the sun, like Mike said.
Back to the beginning of Poor Man's Kayak... I love it! Keep these videos coming Marty!
whatever you do to your kayak, all it matter is that it make you happy and have fun while doing it.
Thank you Marty. Because of you and your videos I have been wanting a fishing kayak for nearly 3 years. As of Saturday I am now the proud owner of one!

It's good to see you on the water again.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for making this video Marty. It really helps me pull up the old video I'm searching for.
Back to basics and ol school Marty. The reason that I became a subscriber.

Back to The Old School Zoffinger. Great Video Marty.
Thumbs up on the DIY,Marty!
I can't wait to start up some projects for summer. Thanks for the inspiration Marty!
Feels like I'm watching a zoffinger video pre buisness, big boat, hobie, con-tiki 2 etc.. right back at the poor mans kayak.
Sir I have learned more from watching your videos than anywhere else. I have a perception Stryker 11.5 and I'm thinking about adding a fixed rudder to it and I will be following your video for help
So simple but so awesome. Milk crates are amazing.
Thanks, Marty, for yet another quality video. Look at all that room in the back of the kayak. Enough for a BIGGG milk crate! Excelent videography. ‘til the next one! :-)

Love the crate idea 👍🏽Thank you exactly what I was looking for .
Great video Marty!! Love the DIY inventions that you come up with.
Great video man! I just bought my self a Pelican 10ft Bounty 100 Angler. I love it and had a blast over the weekend.
I use a crate as well but with carabiners I am able to remove from boat easily and keep loaded for transport. I find it gets me on the water quicker.
Awesome rigging. Keepem coming. Tight lines.
Very helpful ideas.
Thanks, Marty. Good to have a "Bak to Yak" video
would like to see how you access that fishing crate when you are on the water???
Love your videos Marty, keep them coming 👍🏻👍🏻
Old School Zoffinger is best Zoffinger. please do more.
Easy to assemble and sturdy enough to hold my poles

Nice one Marty
Keep on keeping on
Great video as always
I cut the bottom off another milk crate and made a lid so I can lock it down with another bungee so if I tip over nothing sinks to the bottom.
That's a good advanced crate mod for sure.
You do amazing
Great video!
Great tips
Nice video. Thanks for these tips.
When you heat the PVC to get it to fit in the flush mount rod holes, can you easily remove and reinsert them?
Nice setup!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!
Great videos

Hey, i saw the decals (?) on your Catch120. How about telling us how you did that. You are so handy. It's nice you share your tips!

Now that`s a Milk Crate
5:35 wonders if the tides are high will you ever pass?
I weigh 270 lbs..... what size kayak would you recommend?
I’m in your weight class. The Old Town Topwater 106 has a 440 pound capacity, weighs 73 and is very stable even in the high chair position.
Retails for $900, but I saved 20% at Dunham Sports by signing up for Store “Rewards” emails.
Would you recommend a sit in or sit on for a new guy? I was looking at the Pelican Maxim 100X Fish Kayak 10-ft sit in and im 6'4" 225lbs...

Good video,my first time watching,do you think paddle or foot paddle when buying my kayak?
How do can I buy a sticker.Been a fan for quite a while
Great video, I’m finally adopting the crate this season. btw, What song is that at the 2:05 mark?
Please more kayak fishing!!!
Great video.
What length paddle are you using? Is that paddle working out ok on your kayak?
Good vid. got any suggestions on some good soft lures? anything you recommend?
My fav is the Zoom Swimmin Super Fluke in White Pearl
Finally another video. So you made me add a milk crate... but, Is it me, or did you leave the crate off in your fishing trip? :-D
Why such a big milk crate? How much milk do you need out there?
Ya never know. You might find a cow nosed ray! HA! Ya see what I did there? I made a joke about milk...and cows...and, ahhhh, nevermind.
I think you can fit some chocolate syrup in your cooler
I’ll be passing through at the end of June. Will you be accepting visitors by then ?
I'll be flying into Tampa next week. Is your kayak rental business open? I can't find a number on your site.
Hi cool channel
Posted right after school ended!!
PFD??
lol he doesn't even take the crate 6:12
Hey Marty, im concerned about your kayaks baking in the sun. Sun is the worst thing for plastic.
The fabric bits and pieces wear the worst in the sun. But, yeah. I agree. Yet I often let caution to the wind. So, for other peeps out there that want to keep your gear lasting throughout the years; keep it out of the sun, like Mike said.
Youre smart... You are beautiful
:)
I rigged a beer keg into a live well, flipped my kayak over because I drank too much beer
HAHA! I can totally see me and my buddies doing that.
Good time to practice firing employees
Haha. You have no idea...
Spent 1/3 of the video talking about mods he don’t wanna talk about 🙄
First
Buy a hobie
