First off, great video always. This is my first time hearing about OMG Girlz are reuniting and pumped. Also, I do find it funny how similar the dolls were to the group
Doll lines take inspiration from celebrities all the time but the only similarities I see for the dolls that were bought up was hair colour and two of the dolls that were bought up was inspired by David Bowie and Melanie Martinez. I hate to take a side of a soulless company but they were in the right but they didn’t handle the situation well at all
I think the whole thing is a stretch, especially the cultural appropriation part. What were they appropriating? Colourful hair and clothes? Seems like they only thought it was them because of the omg name.
I think the statement about "girls don't just put on three shirts and a tutu" is a bit misguided... I was a scene kid as a teenager, and that's exactly how I dressed, even just to go to the supermarket... 😬
I'm a doll person and I don't feel like omg copied them, like... the inspirations they used was always OBVIOUS, never lowkey... so... you know.... and also you used the wrong photo for the signature omg dolls, those dolls were from another line up.
Major lady is inspired by david bowie and is named after him . The dolls are inspired by and modeled by iconic fashion brands, fashion icons and iconic celebrities. I don’t see the similarities at all ngl
This is a stretch honestly Omg girls werent even all the big to be honest. They are just looking for a payday off the OMG doll brand. The singers dont own tutus or colored hair for crying out loud. When i first seen the dolls, the last thing that came to my mind was the OMG girl band lol
I don’t get why Tiny thinks the doll at 5:18 is inspired by her that’s a direct David Bowie reference the only thing similar is the cape also at 7:42 that doll is a clear Melanie Martinez reference
Idk they were in trouble for ripping off a black instagram influencer , i think these are the same people behind bratz dolls who also took a lot of inspiration from black artist. Though i feel this one is a stretch i still believe it is possible. Given that they won the case makes me believe they really did take some inspirations from them the OMG Dolls is also a huge indicator. Its the name plus the choice of fashion for the dolls that leaves huge cracks in their argument that they arent copying OMG Girlz. So who knows good luck to tbem tho
The doll company litterally was supposed to do a omg girls doll line when they first started but they ended up cutting the omg girls out and did it without them .They won the 70 mil lawsuit this week soo
So glad they won. These companies really try to be slick with their moves. They really don't think certain cultures don't pay attention or know about intellectual property. It's sad to see certain folks downplaying the verdict. As is said at times, it be your own people. Congratulations Tiny and OMG Girls for following this through.
Agreed. The biggest naysayers will be your own people. It's crazy that some BPeople (in the comments) intentionally refuse to see this case was a clear IP violation. The fact that the toy company was in talks with Tiny/OMG Girlz to create the dolls then did it without their legal consent and compensation is why OMG Girlz won!Congrats!🥳🎉
I love girl groups. My favorites are The Spice Girls, TLC, Xscape, and En Vogue. I love all the different styles, personalities, vocals, and a deep Rap moment like Left-Eye would bring (RIP). I remember this lawsuit, pretty difficult to win since the 1980's tutu and layered style, was back in trend, and everyone was saying "OMG". Nay, you have the face of a doll. Just Gorgeous!✨⭐⭐⭐
We’re supposedly finally getting a full version of Lover Boy! I’m in my 30’s so I wasn’t into this group but I somehow heard a clip of Lover Boy years ago and have been obsessed with it every since.
I believe that The OMG Girlz colorful aesthetic were of course influenced by other older black artists, and black women in the early 2000s. The Jerkin era also did see a lot vibrant colors with the youth around 2009/10. After Nicki Minaj blew up, you also did have many teen girls being inspired by her style, and she set off a new wave of female artists wearing colorful wigs. The wigs were prominent in black fashion and culture, while white girls dyed their own hair. Then you had the mermaid hair trend around the peak of Tumblr. I believe that the colors were also meant to market the OMG Girlz to their age demo. In my opinion, the LOL and OMG dolls heavily reference/d prominently black fashion and beauty trends. We already know that white mainstream styling trends, as well as music, and lingo and vernacular have constantly been adopted from black culture, which often times goes uncredited to us. With that being said, despite me now being in my late 20s and never having been in the target demo, I’ve never been a fan of these dolls or any one similar. To say that the dolls directly copied the OMG Girlz may be a reach, but they were VERY reminiscent of them (from the perspective of a 2010s black teen). The “Major Lady” doll I think was just a coincidence, but Majorgirl has been Tiny’s ig name since forever, so see how they snuck that one in there lol. Also, slightly off topic, but the hair industry has been profiting off of black ideas, especially with curly hair care, and wearing lacefront wigs. While it’s been more common than ever to see black girls and women walking around with colorful wigs the last few years, there was a moment where people would mockingly be told that they “looked like an OMG Girl” (though popular among kids, a lot teens didn’t actually mess with them). But yeah, now we’re seeing more white girls wear colorful wigs as opposed to dying their own hair, and color aside the styling of their hair is inspired by black and wig and weave styles, look at Alabama Barker.
I'm trying to figure out how MGM said that they copied them when the OMG girlz were out in 2010 in the OMG dolls didn't come out till 2019 is that even make any sense to anyone?
You cant "cop" someone's likeness and then name your copied thing the same thing as the thing you copied. Customers/fans will assume that it is a line that the original group are a part of. OMG built a name and MGA wants to profit off off that without paying them (insert they came to OMG girls first before they released the dolls) smh crooked system
I collect Lol Omg/ Lol Surprise dolls. They have dolls that have names & look identical to celebrities like Prince, David Bowie, Elton, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, & Britney Spears. But i see such a huge similarity between the dolls & OMG Girlz like the dolls having Miss in almost all their names as well as the outfits & hair there are some exact replicas. The doll Tiny thought was mimicked after her is actually mimicked after David Bowie, the lil sister of that doll makes it way more so obvious. And of course the name lol omg kind of was the icing on the cake
That man knows he copied those girls. How tf so 32 dolls look exactly like them? Also, they had a meeting with the OMG Girlz to make their dolls, so why is it so far fetched?
I’m a little older so I didn’t listen to omg girls but I remember when i first seen omg dolls i automatically assumed they were dolls fashion after the omg girlz.
Soooome of these definitely feel like a reach, but I can see the connection with a few. I think it’s worth looking into, especially because big companies have a habit of doing just this. Mga has had an issue like this in the past with TassleFairy/Amina Mucciolo, and called them a “disgrace to black people.” It can’t all be coincidental
I've never heard of Girl group until now. I am a part of the doll community and doll collocting community here on UA-cam and seen videos of the omg dolls by MGA entertainment from others videos on UA-cam. I do have some of the little lol surprise dolls not the big omg dolls. So this video is very helpful mentioning the full backstory of the omg girls group because I only just found out about the lawsuit and needed more clarification about the whole thing and your video did just that. Thanks so much for making this such great detail video.
how they trying to claim these girls copied them, when they came out as a singing group dressing this way YEARS(in 2008 and dressed this way with photos to prove it) before they created these dolls(in 2016).... glad mga lost the suit, now they should also have to remove the dolls from production or pay royalties from this day forward on each sell to this group
OMG GIRLZ was on heavy rotation for me… I was originally Miss Star but I changed to Miss Beauty bc my cousin didn’t like the fact that Beauty wore braces
These dolls don't really look like the OMG girls and the way they dressed was the style at the time was highly popular. In this case, I'm sure MGA will win the suit just because their style is just very very general and 2010s. There ARE instances where people should sue doll companies, but the dolls clearly weren't made to look like the OMG girls. Also, on another note, I used to dress like this as a kid in the 2010s and I was never a fan of the OMG girls, I just liked the 80s. So MGA could also very well say their dolls are 80s inspired as well.
The cultural appropriation thing is not necessary but the other claims are not that much of a stretch...OMG dolls vs OMG girls. Come on!! They just won 71 mill.
As a huge literally huge as in I own every one, (even the small ones) collector of lol/omg dolls, it was so awesome to hear you talk about them 😂❤ I love when worlds collide I can also testify that omg dolls have always had multi layered outfits and the specific dolls they are saying are “them” look maybe at most similar.. MAYBE, they are literally just colorful fun looks.. the omg girls were feeling themselves a little too much thinking they own… colors 😅😂
I didn't know who the OMG Girls were till now, this lawsuit was a completely joke....an intent to gain popularity for their comeback and why not take some millions of $ (in the case they win, but of course they didn't)
A little too old for a comeback as a group named OMG but I loved them back in the day and definitely think they couldve won the lawsuit considering the dolls are very similar to them/their style
The fact that the company reached out to them to make a doll but couldn't secure it and then came out with dolls anyways that look like there likeness is acute based on the company trying to in the first place
I don’t think this was mentioned but I remember seeing Zonnique’s post about and she tried to say Rocker Boi (a male doll with a 80s rock aesthetic) ripped off Ray Ray from Mindless Behavior(tumblr swag era) likeness because he was the only guy that had long hair. I just think it was funny 💀
IJS I have never looked at an OMG doll and thought of this OMG girlz group... Like I remember them 🙄 but tbh who are they. And after researching, there's a lil resemblance nd they could've avoided the lawsuit by not calling them OMG dolls, bcuz right nobody owns colored hair or tutu skirts but names and likeness are quite different. I really think the name is what did it
Honestly, this lawsuit is a bit much, but MGA does actually have a history of plagiarizing black influencers/designers/etc. They do also have black designers on their lines to make their dolls more diverse, but it’s not like they’ve never taken ideas without crediting before. Although I don’t think this is one of those cases.

They were, they was talking to mga years ago for a doll line then it didn't work then mga met with them in 2018 for a line a again but they ditched tiny and the 2019 the omg doll collection of lol came out then
@@LAYLALA19Right they didn't want to come to a fair agreement on what she'd be paid now they really gonna pay her, I love it!!!!
I can't help but root against Tiny and TI after what he said he does to his daughter, and the allegations of abuse.
Yeah me too. But i couldn't pick a side, because it was like this guy who allegedly abused his daughter (and confirmed he took her for "virginity tests" at the Gyno) vs a multi-billion dollar company.
And then told the whole world about it like he was proud and it was normal, embarrassing his daughter even more. If that was my dad I wouldn’t speak to him
@@naomi.cannibalWhat Deyjah said afterwards really reflected how confusing and awful the situation was.
She said, "He always plays victim, honestly. I just don’t really care to be around him right now. I’ll be a better parent, I’m not saying he’s a bad parent, but when it comes to stuff like this I’m just going to be more connected mentally, emotionally." It breaks my heart because she deserved so much better and is trying the best she can to understand how to move forward.
Generations often must make choices in what they keep and lose, and I'm sure you have thoughts about how far reaching this process can be.
Thank you for replying to me, I love your videos.
Definitely circling back to this now that the OMG Girlz have rightfully won the lawsuit and MGA has to pay them.
I think it’s obvious that major lady is inspired by David Bowie & the omgs are obviously are not inspired by the omg girls they look like nicki manaj knock offs
Full circle… congrats to TI and TINY on their $71 million lawsuit win🎉
First off, great video always. This is my first time hearing about OMG Girlz are reuniting and pumped. Also, I do find it funny how similar the dolls were to the group
I was a fan of the OMG Girlz. Still love to listen to their music from time to time. That era was epic.
I was thinking the same thing
Not a stretch when your awarded 71 million
I think the statement about "girls don't just put on three shirts and a tutu" is a bit misguided... I was a scene kid as a teenager, and that's exactly how I dressed, even just to go to the supermarket... 😬
I'm happy OMG GIRLZ cane out with a WIN 🙌🏾 others sue and rip off BLK artists ALL the time for any small thing.
I'm a doll person and I don't feel like omg copied them, like... the inspirations they used was always OBVIOUS, never lowkey... so... you know.... and also you used the wrong photo for the signature omg dolls, those dolls were from another line up.
My bad!
Major lady is inspired by david bowie and is named after him . The dolls are inspired by and modeled by iconic fashion brands, fashion icons and iconic celebrities. I don’t see the similarities at all ngl
This is a stretch honestly
Omg girls werent even all the big to be honest. They are just looking for a payday off the OMG doll brand. The singers dont own tutus or colored hair for crying out loud. When i first seen the dolls, the last thing that came to my mind was the OMG girl band lol
Okay, but the Omg Girlz was a moment though omg. You had to be there ☝🏿
CONGRATS TO WINNING 71 MILLION TI and TINY. Industry keeps stealing from our people.🎉
Naomi, Nique At Night did an interview with the doll designer. She was "something else".
They did copy them because they look just like them
We’re supposedly finally getting a full version of Lover Boy!
I was never a fan of Isaac Larian (owner of MGA). He always caused problems, especially with Mattel and other brands and people
They disbanded in the year 201?! 😮
oh so this is my proof y’all actually read the descriptions 😭
I think she meant 2015😭😭😭
@@naomi.cannibal, I think I’m the only one! 😅
They (TI and Tiny) just went to court again and won 71 Million
I love omg girlz and they definitely should've won that lawsuit smh but I'm so excited theu FINALLY doing Lover boyyy finally
after seeing that old white man saythey "extorted" him, I'm THRILLED they won
😂😂😂
My daughter has a closet full of these LOL Dolls, never knew T.I. was suing them. $71 million 🫨😮💨
Imagine filing a lawsuit because you think you own colors
And filing it over and over again this was dismissed multiple times before
Thank you for this video. It's the only one I found that actually good information in it and not just gossip
THEY JUST WONNN
Let’s not forget they were the ones who named Beyoncé baddie Bey and she then I created an Instagram and write them a letter that was amazing
Her og instagram name! I almost forgot about that
I could see them sue over the OMG,name instead of the dolls likness, but hey they won so.....
TI is so annoying
🤣
Annoyingly rich he won that lawsuit
Welll they won now as they should have great job Ti&Tiny for never giving up 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🎉🎉🎉🎉
here just because of this craziness, "there style" is hot topic lol nothing trend setting about them actually never heard of the group until today.
But didn’t they just win 41million? I’m confused did they win or lose?? 😳
Congratulations OMG..... they won the lawsuit 🎉🎉🎉
The cultural appropriation thing is not necessary but the other claims are not that much of a stretch...OMG dolls vs OMG girls. Come on!! They just won 71 mill.
As a huge literally huge as in I own every one, (even the small ones) collector of lol/omg dolls, it was so awesome to hear you talk about them 😂❤ I love when worlds collide
I can also testify that omg dolls have always had multi layered outfits and the specific dolls they are saying are “them” look maybe at most similar.. MAYBE, they are literally just colorful fun looks.. the omg girls were feeling themselves a little too much thinking they own… colors 😅😂
Im glad Tiny fought for them and they won $71 million!!!
I didn't know who the OMG Girls were till now, this lawsuit was a completely joke....an intent to gain popularity for their comeback and why not take some millions of $ (in the case they win, but of course they didn't)
This did not age well at all.
😂😂😂😂 jokes on you
A little too old for a comeback as a group named OMG but I loved them back in the day and definitely think they couldve won the lawsuit considering the dolls are very similar to them/their style
The fact that the company reached out to them to make a doll but couldn't secure it and then came out with dolls anyways that look like there likeness is acute based on the company trying to in the first place
There’s too similarities between the OMG Girlz & the OMG Dolls for the OMG Girlz not to win. People just don’t wanna see black women win!
Naomi love, I know you a busy woman but when you can could you please make a video on our fav groups and their so called “indefinite hiatuses” 💞💞💞
just brung back childhood memories omg
Although I don’t think this is one of those cases.
omg can you please make a video about the Girlicious? xxx
The definitely have a case the OMG GIRLS CAME 1ST.
Did you see the news T.I & Tiny won thier case!!!!
Major Lady is based on Ziggu Stardust
She just won 70 Million!!!! Whoop whoop
Now we know good and well NOBODY made a doll based off of Tiny 😂
