      That cheat sheet has helped me a lot, thank you man. It's a great starting point, and you can fine-tune from there for your own specific recordings and samples.

    I am under major home/studio improvement at the moment too. My electrician change the circuit board and talk to me about installing a surge protector box direct in the panel to the main. To my understanding, it is really useful if the city cut the power and re-open it. It happened to me a few times when they where working on the grid. I run most of my studio on a battery back up pack with protection anyway, but he told me it is good for TV,fridge and all modern appliances. It is relatively cheap, I would ask your electrician about it.
    Concerning ground, an ingeener at my job suggested me to run a second "main" ground cable to earth for my control room. I did not go that far, but it is supose to isolate my room from every other appliances in the home.
    Congrats for the baby! 🥳🤟

    So cool to see you building this! My band and I recently built a shared music rehearsal/recording-space in the exact same way and we went through all the same challanges in planning and constructing the whole room. We finished a few weeks ago and I can tell you that it is not only the best feeling to be done working on it for months, but also seeing how incredible the results look and sound!! So, can't wait for your "My studio is finished" - video :)

    @0:22 - I had to chuckle - "New baby occupied me for a couple of weeks". :) . How about "the next 18 years". :)

    Very cool. I just finished drywall and painting for my basement studio, and my HVAC guy recommended the exact same flexible piping. It’s a bit disorienting having the vent pump out air but not hearing a sound. Such a satisfying result.

    Hey man, in my newest studio build I have the exact issue with the electrical panel being on the outter wall and building a frame like that on the inside walls. What I found the key was was making sure the door has the same mass as the rest of the walls. I did it with a 2x6 frame filled with mineral wool and the 3 layers on top, but I had it 8" taller and wider so it overlapped the opening with a gasket to seal it tight and I hung it with a french cleat above and the bottom clicks in to seal up tight. Then like you said handles just to pop it off. I didnt want big doors because I am going to put a kit right infront of it and it would swing in the way, so the french cleat lets you lift it right off and it sticks out the same amount as an acoustical panel so should look cool when its all done.

    Nice. I did some renovation in my studio this summer, about 80% of it is done. Long and tedious, but you'll be happy.
    Congratulations for the new family member.🎉😃

    Exciting stuff! I love this. I would definitely put a tv screen up above your desk like your friend suggested. The few bands I've worked with in my basement studio really seemed to like seeing the session on a big screen.

    Congrats on your newborn. How long do you anticipate it taking you to get used to the new room with your NS-10's?

    How are you dealing with electrical and lights? I noticed just the wire poking through. Is the plan to run exterior outlets and Conduit along walls and ceiling for track lights? I'm trying to decide that in my build.

    NEC doesn’t allow the panel to be obstructed. Article 110 clearances I think.. Curious how the inspector and insurance will handle this considering this is public information

    what is the size of the room?

  • @sighermike
    @sighermike 7 місяців тому

    Not sure why the electrical is not terminating into J-Boxes vs just hanging out of the gyp board.

    • @simonbaxtermusic
      @simonbaxtermusic 7 місяців тому

      Likely will have boxes outside the drywall. That minimizes the size of the hole through the drywall. Most professional studies have boxes sticking out of the wall for xlr connections etc also.

      @@simonbaxtermusic OK, that makes sense. It helps to maintain that acoustical separation, I've just never seen it done like that. At the same time, I've never designed a studio before, nor have I designed a building that requires that level of separation. Came close with a High School that had a "broadcast" room where they had their own closed circuit TV system, but we only went as far as resilient clips and double layers of sheet rock.

      @@sighermikeyeah totally. I was surprised to see it in a basement build, but in hindsight it makes sense given the designer he hired. I’m building a studio in my basement right now and felt I didn’t have the space in the room for it, so went with j boxes with 3M putty pads to air seal them. Not as good for sound isolation, but keeps the wall flat in the room.

    • @hardcoremusicstudio

      the outlets are going to be nested inside acoustic panels which are out from the wall at varying distances
