Well, perhaps she was not "an actress" in the eyes of a great director, but in comparison with the model-actresses of today, MM was light years better.
We all have different criteria of what makes an actor good. I always believed that Miss Monroe possessed the qualities of a good actor. However, her screen presence enabled her to transcend to the heavens. She possessed the same qualities that made Garbo great.
Someone who shows up hours late (habitually), doesn't know her lines or even how to walk within camera range is completely lacking in talent. On top of that, she took direction from her acting coach rather than the film's director. Far from being a victim of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe was allowed to get away with unprofessional behavior that would never have been tolerated coming from a man or an ordinary looking woman.

Hildegard Knef ( Neff ) has said something wonderful about Marylin - "She was the most harmless person i ever met."
I dont agree - she was actually a very talented actress (especially in comedy) but she was held down both by the studio and by her own demons
Otto worked with Monroe directly. Have you ever worked with her? If not, your opinion means nothing
@@fitdoc565 hahaha thank you, thought police. Whatever would we do without people like you in this world?

I can't believe Dorothy dated Otto O_O
She wasn't dating him, she was sleeping with him.
She did it for the role that made her the first black movie star
The year this interview was recorded was the same year Rankin/Bass released "The Hobbit"; Otto was the voice of Threnoir the Elven King of Mirkwood.
That boring fact has nothing to do with this video.
In later years, Otto Preminger admitted he should have been more patient with Marilyn Monroe.
So mean....she was talented and she worked at it!
No, he was spot on about her.

otto was correct

In the movie with hallie Barry he was a jerk. Lol
MM was very beautiful but she couldn't act
Preminger was a tyrannical director with no respect for the actors, He speaks of Marilyn with zero empathy!
Robert Mitchum smacked Otto in the face after demanding several takes of slapping Jean Simmons in Angel Face.
