Midland GTX GMRS Radio Review and GMRS License Tutorial

- In this video I'll be unboxing the Midland GXT1000VP4 GMRS walkie talkie, and putting it to the test for my upcoming road trip across the country as my wife and I move from Utah to Pennsylvania. I got this radio in hopes of using it the road trip my wife and I went on as we moved across the country. The actual range that we we able to get was closer to 1 mile when inside vehicles. The metal frame of vehicles and semi-trucks as obstructions between us made it so that we typically only got up to a mile of range. It ended up being very handy to have, and I'm glad I got it. Over all, it didn't do what I wanted it to, but its still a great radio for camping, or emergencies. If you're wanting longer range than what this provides you'll have to get something like a CB radio, or a HAM radio and all the licenses that go with that.

I think the midlands have 3 different power settings for the different channels, high med low. Also....if im correct, channels 15-22 offer GRMS users higher power outputs if you select that channel group and use the High setting. I dont know this for a fact, but ive been reading/researching these radios for my use as well. The process of getting the license tutorial done was very useful and informative. I wasnt sure what was required for that part, and you have provided much insight in that area. Thanks
Yeah, I'm not the best at reading, but I couldn't find clear information on what channels use the "high" power frequencies.
I'm glad the tutorial portion was helpful
NO THAY DONOT family service is 1/2 watt G M R S is 5 watt s semplex radio to radio license will cost 35 00
dollars
the diet that made this u tube did not read the book and winged it so I correct the stuped
@@donalderickson-si8ww 15w on the higher channels is the max that a GMRS radio can output. The base station cannot exceed 50w as well as per 47 CFR 95.1767
I run a 45 watt base station all day long
Excellent video. Very informative. Thanks!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you appreciated it

Yes, inside the car, in a basement, and next to a power transformer and powerlines will have an effect.
I tested mine in town and above ground and outside the car, and easily got 3.5 miles. Got mine pair at Walmart for $69, they are great!
you get what you pay fore no extra's worentry no tec seport just take it home read the book and have fun
You can go to channel 15 and turn the power up manually also
Oohhh thanks

family service is 2 watts channels 1 through 22 the second set of channels you cant

or 45 like mine BUT NEED TO WORK ON THE RADIO so your radio can talk to the tower.
For this model, are you able to talk between 4 walkie talkies instead of just 2? If so, how?
Yes, you can use as many as you want as long as they're all on the same channels
ALL FAMILY SERVICE RADIOS are the smae in side so any radio workes with any radio if thay have privacy
code then set all four toghter other people can hear you but can not talk becouse with out your code
hopthis clear's up everything I am not the guy in this clip I am a G M R S license holder call sign W R X N 824
I go around an clean up miss info
set all 4 to the same channel
take the radio's line them up 1 2 3 4
and set all 4 on same channel know you
have a group on same channel have fun
I wish you went outside of the car to test it
That would have been a good idea
inside car you will use range becouse of the medel frame out side is two miles or less becouse your at 1/2 watt
on family service that is why the low power and F C C rules and in efect your welcome have fun and enjoy.
out side depends on what is between both of you
buildings ECT ect
that is because a dumie did it and he did not read the book eather
your car blockes half the signel
Did you change the power level
Chew? Did you mean change? I'm not entirely sure that I did. Looking through the manual; it looks like just using certain channels are automatically at a certain power level. If you know different please let me know.
you put the batterys in the tray that came with it wate 2 hrs your ready to go if your radios use aa batterys charge
extra batterys so you can swap out later.

You're using jargon that's over my head, care to break it down more?
like I said you get farther then two miles apart your out of range the radio transmit's 2 miles
your radio has a range of two miles each stay
with in less than two miles your fine
draw two circles over lap one circle you fine
happy trail's to all
1. Need to wait to get your GMRS radio license before you can start.
2. When signing on, you need to use your Call Sign initially and around every 15-20 minutes or when you are done with your conversation.
Please in the future use proper radio etiquette.
Thank you for the video and it was informative.
thx

Do u need license in Belize
I don't know. You'll have to Google that one
Belize is a different country and is not regulated by our government. This is within the USA and it's territories that you need to get the license.
I would check with that country first
check the goverment
check with the government thay would know
