My top shoe this year is the Deviate Nitro 2. It has plenty of cushion but doesn't feel bulky. It's also pretty light considering the fantastic outsole, which is good for road to trail. Very versatile shoe.
Yep totally agree with the Superblast. On my second pair too. Have over 500+ km in my first pair and they’re still great for recovery mileage. Will probably end up taking them past 800k. For long runs with marathon pace, they’re unreal.
At about 2500 km in my speed 2s now should probably replace them, but shoes are so expensive and the speed 2s are discontinued now 😢 Use them for all my daily runs, tempo sessions, and interval sessions. Done many road marathons/ ultras in them, and even a trail ultra from coast to coast across Scotland 😂
The Adios Pro 3 is hands down my shoe of the year done 600km+ in my first pair before the upper tore but the sole was still perfect although snap was definitely gone but still extremely comfortable. Metaspeed sky+ would be a close second and the Boston 12 is 3rd a fabulous shoe.
I’m still working my miles with the Superblast. I haven’t loved it at first run like so many others which surprised me. I don’t mind firmer shoes, but they don’t have the pop I’m looking for from a foam perspective like Lightstrike pro from adidas or ZoomX from Nike. Might just be me, but they kind of just feel like a lightweight but firmer daily trainer and not “special” if that makes sense.
Superblast is easily my fav shoe this year. Maybe ever 😳 used it for all my long runs during my previous marathon training block and was perfect at marathon pace miles 👌🏻
Favourite daily shoe is the On Cloudsurfer 7, best overall shoe is the Hoka Rocket X2 and I am hoping to get my hands on the Alphafly 3's in January 2024!, great video as ever Ben!
no novablast 4? and do u think the invincible 3 is better compared to the 2? from reading reviews online it seems like the 3 has some negative things about it. curious if uve tried the nike vomero 17? apparently a pegasus/invincible hybrid so has the squish of zoom x but firmer foam underneath for some stability also have u tried the nb sc trainer v2, superblasts usual competiror/comparsion? if so whatd u think of em also ur easy pace run 4:16 is crazy since ur coming off an injury!
Superblast is the best running shoe I’ve ever tried, so it’s my best running shoe overall, not just in 2023. Can’t wait for Superblast 2, hopefully they won’t put a plate inside.
I have bought the Asics Superblast for Christmas...Cannot wait to try it in the new year, I already have the Metaspeed Edge+ love it, did not like the Novablast 2, so interested to see if this shoe is worth my Earth Credits..
As someone who is about to take up running. would you recommend a carbon plate shoe? Im hearing good things about the superblast but it has no carbon plate which apparently reduces fatigue and gives you more energy. Im 30 years old, pretty unfit but looking to get into shape from running. thanks.
I’m an obese beginner who started regular running 2 months ago. After watching several shoe reviews, I decided to get max cushion stability shoes. I got Hoka Gaviota 5 and Asics Gel Kayano 30. Unfortunately, the Asics didn’t work for me. The toe box has a very firm rubbery lining that gave me dead toenails after 1 session of 8 km run. 😕 I used the Gaviota 5 in all my subsequent runs. I find it very soft and supportive and doesn’t give me pain on my arches (which were always painful after my previous runs using Adidas FWD and Ultraboost). Considering getting Cloud Eclipse this coming Christmas as my alternate daily trainer.
I kind of skipped 2023, partly due to finances but also I am still loving my New Balance SC Trainer V1, working 2 pairs in rotation for daily and long runs. I did lash out on some Nike Vaporfly V3 for fast Parkruns and some 10km events.
I’m the one person who’s disappointed with the Superblast. They just don’t give anything back when I run in them! They’re not a bad shoe but they’re definitely not up in my favorites.
My number one shoe ist the Mach 5, second Novablast. Another question Ben about the Kenyan fartlek: which pace have you done or would you recommend for the „on“ part? Race pace, 5 or 10k pace? Appreciate your thoughts😊
@@groupsimon6501 Not sure that completely answers your question though! Looking at his recent Why Are Kenyans So Fast video his 1 minute repeats times seemed to be on average a little over 3min per km pace. I don't actually know Ben's 5k time so if you do maybe extrapolate it from there. I'm guessing the Fartlek splits are a bit faster than his average 5k speed though.
I wear nothing but Altra although pretty certain I don't have any from this year! I think they released the Escalante 2 recently but I've just got two pairs of the original ones. I've got a pair of Lone Peak 6 which I did my first ever marathon in last week. They're all amazing and I strongly believe that their zero drop, minimalist construction have helped my feet to become much stronger and more durable. I don't bother at all with these heavy cushioning shoes.
I would love to try the Superblast but just can’t convince myself to shell out that kind of money to purchase one. And Asics only sell it as a store exclusive, so I don’t see the shoe going on sale any time soon. Fortunately, I heard the Novablast 4 is turning more and more into the Superblast, so that may be a good alternative option.
As my running journey startet this year I have only three pair of shoes in my rotation, Asics Nimbus 25 and 24 for the summer and only recently got Hoka Speedgoat 5 for running in snow and light trail running. I have done around 5-600 km on my Nimbus 25 and recently put spikes on them to finish them off during this winter. I have been looking for a more verstile pair for my speed, tempo and interval sessions and keep coming back to Asics, and Asics Superblast are on my toplist BUT! they are not sold in Iceland where I live! I have been looking for them in all corners of the internet and they are nowhere to be found!! Please send help!
Currently on 3rd pair of Superblast. Superblast is my shoe of the year. Looking forward to an improved upper (hopefully, they will use the same upper as the Meta series and Magic Speed 3) and a better outsole for the Superblast v2.
I have a pair and go back and forth between these and the On Cloudeclipse. I feel that the Cloudeclipse is sometimes too soft if my legs are feeling kind of tired, so I'll then go with the Pegasus 40s cuz they help wake my legs up personally and get them moving better. I personally really like them, they're not perfect, but still just a decent all around sorta shoe. There are many other daily trainers out there that are better, but the 40s are by no means a bad shoe
If you've only run 89 KM's can you really say its one of your favourite pairs? Thats like 4-6 runs in total over an entire year. I have certain shoes where I really look forward to running on. Like you with your SuperBlast. A shoe that gets you excisted. I feel like the Super Blast and the Invicible 3's are your real favorite shoes seeing the miles youve put on them and those others are put into the movie for some exposure to those brands.
Not always. I have a pair of asics from a few years ago. They're like bricks. I can't even walk in them. A pair of Adidas from a few years ago. No good either. Further back new balance.... like running on wooden planks. The pegasus are not what they used to be. I'll be running out of shoe brands. And too many shoes with too much heel drop and/or crazy forefoot rocker feel. And the supposedly good ones are overpriced vs durability. Shoes weariing out at 500km is ridiculous.
Hated the Clifton 9. Didn’t like the Invincible 3, felt the quality had dropped, not as cushioned as the 1 & 2 which are far better.. Looking forward to the 3. I got the Superblast recently but got a cracking deal for £150 as they had my size left and I do like them, lovely to run in
Good to hear your thoughts Ben. I generally like Asics models for daily trainers though have only tried the cheaper options - Excite and Cumulus, solid and very comfy
My top shoe this year is the Deviate Nitro 2. It has plenty of cushion but doesn't feel bulky. It's also pretty light considering the fantastic outsole, which is good for road to trail. Very versatile shoe.
Same here, almost 800km clocked in them
If you have run in it, how does it compare to the Boston 12?
@@vtru2743 I haven't tried the Boston 12; I've hesitated a little because others have had fit problems with it.
completely agree, the best show I've ever bought! have covered over 300km in them so far and they're still feeling great.
@@TristanVPAndo still responsive? How’s the midsole?
As a daily trainer, the Asics Superblast is awesome. The best non-carbon plate running shoe, i.m.h.o., of course. Nice video, as usual!
Totally agree re the Superblast.
Yep totally agree with the Superblast. On my second pair too. Have over 500+ km in my first pair and they’re still great for recovery mileage. Will probably end up taking them past 800k. For long runs with marathon pace, they’re unreal.

Testing my new Superblast this Saturday so glad to hear it’s your #1!
For me it's the Puma DN2!
Superblast is easily my fav shoe this year. Maybe ever 😳 used it for all my long runs during my previous marathon training block and was perfect at marathon pace miles 👌🏻

Ben love your content buddy
Superblast is, imo, the best all-around running shoe ever made.
Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 for steady runs & Pro 3 for track sessions & races - looking forward to seeing version 4s - hope they haven’t ruined them!
I'm on my 3rd pair of Speed 3s. I love them for daily training, they last me for 900kms. I'm using the Endorphin Elites for races.
no novablast 4? and do u think the invincible 3 is better compared to the 2? from reading reviews online it seems like the 3 has some negative things about it. curious if uve tried the nike vomero 17? apparently a pegasus/invincible hybrid so has the squish of zoom x but firmer foam underneath for some stability

Superblast clear winner for me too - 500 miles in mine 🏃🏻💨
If I could only choose one shoe, it's the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. Light, snappy, comfy, they can do it all!
Best shoe of the year. No other speed shoe can compare with the comfort of the Speed 3.
Speed 2 was still better.
Good list. I went back to asics recently after years of being mostly adidas and asics foams are great.
Superblast is the best running shoe I’ve ever tried, so it’s my best running shoe overall, not just in 2023. Can’t wait for Superblast 2, hopefully they won’t put a plate inside.

Superblasts are incredible. If i had to pick 1 shoe for the rest of my life, that would be it, going on 400 miles and still going.
Superblast are amazing and comfortably worth the money. Can get race pace easily and also daily miles. Does everything and does it well
As someone who is about to take up running. would you recommend a carbon plate shoe? Im hearing good things about the superblast but it has no carbon plate which apparently reduces fatigue and gives you more energy. Im 30 years old, pretty unfit but looking to get into shape from running. thanks.
Superblast are amazing, definitely getting a second pair.
...love the dirt from the Kenyan roads @Superblast 😍 Greets from Berlin🙋♂️
My top shoe are Hykes Escapes, super comfy and will never go back to regular restricted shoes.
I’ve heard the Puma Foreverrun Nitro is comparable to the ASICS, and, with it being discounted so much, I’ve decided to buy some.
You must be a puma rep
What? There's nothing in existence that can compare to the Superblast right now. It is the best non-plated shoe released, so far.
Super blast,Nimbus 26 and hoka
mach x all the way...
Try the Topo Cyclone 2, no plate pebax foam absolutely love to train in those.
my best shoe of the year is the New balance supercomp fuel cell shoe. great daily runner for easy runs and even long (fast) runs.
SC Trainer feels flat once you've tried Superblast.
I have run using ASICS for 30+ years, but have somewhat surprisingly gradually shifted towards using Nike.
whats the rotation lookin like?

try the NB super comp fuel cell ... got a bit of weight and stack height but very comfy and stable especially for heavier runners
Hi, what would you recommend for 5/10k race ?
Takumi sen 9 or a vaporfly would be my pick
Is the SC Elite v3 good for shorter distances like 5k/10k and would it be good for someone's first carbon shoe?
I personally find it a little soft for my liking. If anything I’d say it’s more suited to the half and marathon distance but that’s just my opinion
Saucony Triumph 20 🤝
ASICS Superblast and Puna Deviate Nitro 2 are my shoes of the year. Looking forward to Nike Alphafly 3!!
Great choices! Me too!
I kind of skipped 2023, partly due to finances but also I am still loving my New Balance SC Trainer V1, working 2 pairs in rotation for daily and long runs. I did lash out on some Nike Vaporfly V3 for fast Parkruns and some 10km events.
Superblast is getting more praise that the novablast 3 did last year. And thats saying a lot.
Superblast and Mach 5 nuff said
Hi Ben, what happened to Strung x2? Really suprised it didnt make on your list.
Did you ever use asics gel kayano 30?if so can u give some review?tq
Cloudeclipse being on this list makes me so happy
Hoping the On CloudTri 1 comes out soon 🙏
I feel very good with the Hoka Mach 4 - and because Mach 5 is out the Mach 4 was on sale. i bought 5 pairs of them for half price :D
Supernova riser excellent trainer do marathon half's 10k 5k very light on the feet and don't feel the pavements
How bouncy is the superblast?
Best xmass gift idea for runners . Did we do that already? Socks, hats , cbd
Did you go True to siez with the Boston 12?
What T-shirt is that Ben? Cheers!

Hello flattorentuk, your detailed answer helps me a lot. I guess I lil start with a 10k „on“ and increase it furthermore. Greets to UK😊
whast the diff with superblast 2 andf superblast 1
the clifton's are your 5th running shoe but you've only run 89km in them??
IMO, the uppers for On Cloud shoes are the best looking all around. However, their midsole foams always seem a bit plastic-y and cheap looking.

Having trouble finding a decent shoe with minimal forefoot rocker. Most shoes seem to overdo it.
What are the boxes called that you store your race shoes in?
Shoeboxes :)
Currently on 3rd pair of Superblast.
Superblast is my shoe of the year.
Looking forward to an improved upper (hopefully, they will use the same upper as the Meta series and Magic Speed 3) and a better outsole for the Superblast v2.
Ben, what do you think about the pegasus 40? I am asking because they have just given them to me. Thanks!!
Honestly, not for me! A great traditional trainer but I think they’ve somewhat been left in the past :)

Shoes are sooo subjective. The majority of these didn’t fit me right which makes them a non starter…
Very true, that’s why I always recommend people head to there local running specialty store or at least shop at places with a decent return policy:)
agreed, adidas shoes are too narrow and never fit my wide feet
All these shoes i have tried and were horrible....not good AT ALL
I have a moderately wide forefoot and adidas previously did not fit , but adios pro 3 does fit me and so does Boston 12
Nike and hoka for me, nothing else
If it’s not broken, don’t fix it 🫡
Great list! Sadly, as a slower runner, I didn’t get on with my Superblast and will be looking to sell it :(
🎉🎉🎉
Brooks hyperion max is a mile ahead of anything on that list

Rocket x2

Yeah I think ASICS have really stepped up in the last few years
Superblast is amazing shoe.
Unreal!
