    That made no sense to me. How is demolishing it and having a pile of debris that could go at any minute down the river, along with a very heavy large metal back hoe any better than leaving the store there. Like the debris from that store building would amount to anything compared to the massive amount of rock and dirt from the possible further eroding bank.

      They can't. The sediment that it holds back is all that's holding up the highway bridge to the south. This has been an issue for over 20 years to keep or remove the dam. I worked in the dam on the generators around 20 yrs ago now. So maybe, I have half a clue about what I'm talking about.

    • @nicotti
      @nicotti 29 днів тому +1

      The right most 2 wood slate gates were covered with concrete a few years back after it was determined that using them during a major flood would likely erode way the right-hand bank behind the dam and cause the dam to fail.
      At that time, hydro modeling showed that the dam could withstand as much water as came downstream sun/mon thru the five remaining bays (as long as they remained clear).

    Their buildings are gone, the land they stood on has largely been swept down stream. But where does land ownership end at? Is land ownership only on the surface that the buildings stood on, or do you own the square footage, all the way down to the center of the earth? Does their land ownership remain in force even though the river now runs over the top of it? Hopefully the County won’t keep taxing them the same amount each year now that they have lost all their buildings?
