I started to feel naked when I wore an older tie that didn't have a square so I went out and bought 10 additional squares that complimented my old ties. I now have over 40 squares... So what is the point of a pocket square anyway? Every suit I have ever rented has come with one, and I can't find a single practical use for them. Now, they are probably just an asthetic piece, but what were they originally meant for? Just a handkerchief?
Zachary Nixon There is history with the pocket square has evolved from the handkerchief where it has a much broader array of uses from blowing your nose into it, to using it as a bandage. It did become part of the social elite and royalty where they wouldn't wear the plain non-coloured cloth in their pockets and don expensive materials and colours not available to the common folk. Where as to today it is mainly fashion accessory to dress up for an occasion or class up your daily wear.
