It’s actually based on comics (Written by Neil Gaiman, the man who wrote Coraline, Stardust, American Gods, Good Omens, etc) SOOOOOO excited you guys are watching this- I hope the whole series ends up on the channel!!!!! 💜
I'm hopeful Gaiman's direct involvement will keep this one from going off the rails.
@@ShadowyFox_86 So am I. The good news is that he is very particular and deliberate when he allows adaptations, and because of that, most adaptations of his work REALLY well. Stardust, American Gods, Good Omens, and the Audible adaptation of Sandman were ALL fantastic- he doesn’t let anyone cut corners when handling his work, and he only works with people that love his characters as much as he does. *steps off fangurl soapbox* lol
Kinda pedantic but Good Omens was coauthored by Terry Pratchett. Gaiman worked on the adaptation after Pratchett's death but he was more focused on keeping Pratchett's contributions to the series than his own.
"Jessamy, my homie!"
"Ten years I've been trying to get you man, security's tight"
that sums up dream and jessamy's friendship and loyalty so well ToT
i just enjoy listening to people who don't know anything about The Sandman trying to guess what's gonna happen in the series lmao. it's just really entertaining, both when they get it really wrong or when they hit on something that's actually going to happen.
I chuckled over the comparison of Dream's helmet and Percy's mask. Taliesin Jaffe, Percy's player/creator/actor, is a big fan of the Sandman comics. I think he's actually how I first heard of them.
Just to clarify. The endless are a group of personifications of concepts like the Corinthian named them earlier. Death,Desire,Despair,Dream and so on. They are the physical embodiments of those concepts and are much more than just rulers or Gods. They are those concepts themselves.
Did you notice that Alex's boyfriend Paul purposely broke the seal so that Morphius could escape.
Yes was happy in that moment! 🐉
IIRC the Ruby and Mask and Pouch are artifacts he made & invested large amounts of his power in out of convenience/focus, so losing them really cut his legs out power-wise.
Corinthian has teeth for eyes + person missing both eyes = he wasnt just crying tears of blood lmao.
in the comics alex is stuck in the nightmare realm, where the dream lord also rules.. its good that you pointed out he doesnt have much time anyways but u forgot dreams can feel like an eternity even if you only slept for 5 mins lol
I like how when you both highlighted the imagery were actually taken exactly from the graphic novel, you guys should read it, its amazing
Also,Morpheus was the God of Dreams in Greek Mythology which is whom both the Matrix and Sandman characters are named after.A lot of superhero comics get influence from Greek,Roman,Judeo-Christian and Norse Mythology.Sadly,Egyptian Mythology doesn`t tend ta get as much love.
yes they do. Isis, Black Adam, Dr. Fate, Hawkman, Moon Knight, Earth Force ( Thor comics)
@@dontgiveinfo Isis is the most mainstream Egyptian goddess ever,Black Adam`s from a fictional equivalent of Egypt,Dr. Fate`s Egyptian origins are usually skindeep and his host is usually a white American or Italian dude, Hawkman`s Egyptian origins are often retconned ta Thanagarian in cartoons and video games even though those were two different Hawkmen in The Comics,Moon Knight and Earth Force are not that mainstream at all.Ra`s,Damian and Talia are almost always whitewashed in movies(Yes, I know Egypt is just where they live, they`re descended from Eurasian nomads from China and the Steppes not unlike myself)but the point remains!
Halfway through and it's very good so far
the sandwich joke took me OUT
great reaction as always guys!
The Endless are more than gods there manifestation of primordial forces of creation itself that even almost all gods are subject to gods are born in the Dream realm as dreams of the mortals.
That's why I think so many powerful entities both fear and hate Dream. They both owe their power to him and give him power from their existence.
@@ShadowyFox_86 yeah im pretty sure of that too. Im sure they hate and respect not just Dream but the entire family as even those immensely powerful and eternal beings fall to those forces the Endless embody.
7:35 the sleepy sickness is based on a real life epidemic that happened around the same time that affected a million people worldwide. There's a couple solid theories about what caused it but it's still a topic of debate.
The raven is of the Eurasian variety - ravens and some species of crows on this side of the pond have more color variation.
Great Reaction!
The bird is a Pied Crow from Africa.
Thought the first episode was amazing. Definitely excited to check your reactions out!
Thanks for checking us out!

Yes! Love you guys reacting to this show!
excited to see more reactions to this!
Would love to see the full series!!
Love this show its awesome can't wait to see you guys reactions
Questions will be answered, and answers will be questioned, and I think you’ll find it very interesting where it goes from here. I’m certainly enjoying it. There are some changes and additions to the source material, but it’s not a drastic deviation, and some shots are right off the page.
The Sandman was an award winning DC Comics comic book than ran for 75 issues. The title was shifted to DC's Vertigo line of comics, which lean to more adult themed stories. The entire series and been reprinted multiple time in trade paperback. The also did an audio book last year. A few well known DC characters showed up in the comics in early issues but licensing right won't allow that in this version so there are minor changes to story but nothing that changes the overall story. The series isn't going to be like anything you've seen before.
Oh it is such good luck they did not catch Dreams's sister Death. I don't think they would've been able to hold her.
Happy to see so many new ppl enjoying this. Adaptations don't need to be perfect 1:1 so long as it's faithful enough to bring in old and new fans
I adore the comics and this adaptation is doing amazing stuff with the source material. I will note that later on this season Desire appears. Desire uses they/them pronouns
Never actually read the comics personally but so far I'm loving this show. Only on episode 2 and I'm already wishing that I had more free time just to binge it.
this is gona be a fun ride!
Stoked that y'all are watching this show. It is a really special property and it is handled so incredibly well here. Liked and shared.
We never dreamt that it would be this good . Hope I guys enjoyed it .
"Nothing to see here, we're just doing a sacrifice" 😂😂😂 like wasn't that concerning?! I would have promptly left but that's just me 😂 and Dream has siblings. I'm not a comic reader but I think they meant that other endless might have left their realm to crumble
In the comics he has a brother who abandoned his duties, but which one it is would be spoiler-y
@@JBWinter yeah let's not spoil it for them but good to know it was a bro
@@JBWinter lmao I was about to comment the name but nvm
It's actually easy to guess which of the Endless left their realm in complete chaos and just left :p
Love it
Great observations considering you guys are not familiar with the comics. Catching up on the reactions. Keep it up!
Started following you guys during TLOVM, and I'm excited to see you cover this one too. So far I think it's a gorgeous adaptation of the comics, though I have only watched up to 6.
One thing I think you're having trouble with: Dream isn't the only Endless. His siblings (Death, Desire, etc) are also called Endless.
This was a fairly good adaptation, I wasn’t particularly looking forward to this but it’s definetly leagues above many stuff Netflix has done before, especially adaptation wise.
They were trying to trap Death but got Dream
Wow 🤩
