- Pola Negri sings the song Paradise from the rare 1932 early sound film A Woman Commands. Also starring Basil Rathbone and Roland Young. Directed by Paul Stein. A better quality clip than an older one on UA-cam.

Beautiful song from a beautiful star. Two years later they couldn't have put it in an American film because the Production Code was initiated in 1934.
Pola Negri loved to learn new languages. Allegedly she spoke five languages ( native Polish, Russian ,French ,German and English which was was the last she learned). However ,she recorded also a few gypsy songs. The same "Paradise" song sounds much better when she sings in French.
Reminiscent of Marlene Dietrich in style and vocal quality.
Wow she was STRICKINGLY BEAUTIFUL ! My great grandmother adored her.
Pola to poprostu czysty brylancik była fenomenalna dziękuję i pozdrawiam
A silent film legend's swan song.(so to speak).. And she pulls it off with such star-power and aplomb! Amazing.
LYRICS:
I am just a woman that loved a man
But our house of love was built on sand
While it lasted it was grand, my love
We lived and loved, our day is through
But each night in dreams it starts anew
He comes to me as he used to do, my love
And then he holds my hand
Hmm-mm-mm-mm, hmm-mm-mm-mm
Then I understand
Hmm-mm-mm-mm, hmm-mm-mm-mm
Her eyes afire with one desire
Then a heavenly kiss, could I resist
And then he dims the light
Hmm-mm-mm-mm, hmm-mm-mm-mm
And then he hmm-mm-mm
Hmm-mm-mm-mm, hmm-mm-mm-mm
(Whistling)
He takes me to paradise
Thanks.
@@aDogNamedHandsome you’re welcome
Can you imagine how surprised audiences of 1931 were, when they heard this silent screen siren sing like this?... WOW!!... (Born too late!)
As surprised as I am right now because I never heard her voice before!
Fierce!
Wowwwww POLA
Idole
This was Pola Negri’s first talking picture
Thanks for posting. Reading about the assassination of Alexander of Serbia and his queen, Draga.
She turned down the film "Sunset Blvd" in 1949 because the male lead was suppose to be Montgomery Clift
Incredible! There were three mesmerizing singing stars of the 1900s, Pola, Zarah and Piaf. One cannot get enough of Pola, her songs every time open up to new horizons, new soulbreaking insights, new moments of intense, lingering emotions. I almost can't wait to get to the next world and maybe submerge myself in the latest recordings of Pola, maybe even attend an evening of her songs, maybe even be permitted backstage and throw myself at her feet with a ton of orchids! Pola For Ever!
hypnotic!
Love the Caligari type backdrop.
Me, too!!
Yes, very reminiscent of the German Expressionist movement.
fabulous!!
Looking everywhere for this film! Its so hard to find her works!
Only 6 films exist , all the others were destroyed by fire.
fine song Polita!
Thanks for posting!
Aloha from Hawaii!

Fine Song!
Aloha from Hawaii!
Piękna Polka❤️😍
I'd love to see the whole film
Name of the movie is „A woman commands".It's about Serbia's king Alexander and queen Draga's assasination
Polak potrafi.
Szkoda.
Se parece a la"mujer del puerto".
Fine Song Polita!
Aloja from Hawaii!
Fine song Pola
I love this song, always have, but please, let's get real: Camp like this comes once in a lifetime.
I think it’s divine I don’t find it camp at all ❤️
Her facial expressions could be a template for Betty Boop.
I hope you're very young for you to think of her as Betty Boop you have absolutely no understanding of the song why not listen to it again try not to think of Betty hope
@@roderickfernandez8554 Perhaps you should re-read my original post.

i kept hearing, that her voice was such a disappointment to viewers, so her fabulous career had to end. well, i shall make no judgment of that as i have no knowledge of singing what so ever, i simply didn't enjoy it much. i do thing though, that it has been so much harder for the actors those days, i mean in the silent era, to build their characters only with body langauge and face expressions... can't imagine this still going on!
Beautiful voice.
You're a woman... do you understand what she's singing about?.. Paradise..? he takes me to Paradise... have you ever been "taken to Paradise"...
@@philipanderson4673 I will when Jesus takes me there after I die. ;)
@@jillkjv3816 Jesus is dead these 2000 years. You're in for a disappointment.
@@philipanderson4673 Nope, sorry, risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, seen by 500 witnesses. Only the dumbest people risk burning for all eternity when Jesus did the hard work to help you avoid it but you mock His sacrifice out of Satanic pride and arrogance. Tsk tsk tsk. Get saved. (Ephesians 2:8,9).
How she must have envied Marlene Dietrich when she took over the German femme-fatale roles. I had an aunt Mabel Smith born 1897 who bore a striking resemblance to Pola except my aunt was prettier!
Beautiful woman but what a horrible song to make her sing!
Simply awful.
Your review is simply awful.
You are awful. 🤪🤢🤯🥺😖
