I have eight RF lenses, an EF adapter and a lot of EF glass. I have an R5 and C70 and other EF cameras. Switching isn’t anything I’ve considered. My R5 Mark II arrive yesterday in time to take it to my daughter’s volleyball game. My experience with the autofocus alone made me instantly lose any thoughts that maybe it wasn’t a wise purchase. I used my 70-200 RF at 2.8 and almost every shot was in focus, and that includes when taking bursts of photos, which I’m not used to taking. And having the pre record was also a game changer.
When I downloaded the RAW and JPG files I was amazed. I’m used to seeing a bigger difference between the two with far more noise in the RAW files.
As a videographer as well, I would love oversampled 4K. But I mostly got it for photography. As someone who uses on-camera flash, I’m hoping and assuming the new hot shoe doesn’t become an issue as the one on the R5 was for me and many others who had to send it in for repairs after it became loose.
It will take some time to get use to the power switch now being on the right. Yesterday I found myself flipping it to video mode when trying to power down.
I have barely used my new camera and not yet on a paid job, but after shooting the volleyball game and then testing some low light at the park, I am very pleased. I was excited with my Pocket 3 this year, but it’s been a while since I’ve gotten as excited about new gear as I am now for the R5 Mark. No regrets!
@@livemusic nice! I definitely have some annoyances but the autofocus is truly sensational. I don't like the power button on that side either but one hack is to use the record button while your in photo mode, which defaults to C3 your video settings. Once you're done recording, it goes right back to photo mode.
I like to do that because I can switch back-and-forth really quickly between photo and video.
@@livemusic I actually just got the Pocket 3 two days ago and am using it on our trip to Florence. I'm really impressed.
@@JeffWiswell Thanks for the tip! I haven’t yet been trying to switch to video, but that will be helpful. I just need to make sure I’ve actually powered it off and not alert it down after switching to video and thinking I turned it off.
@@JeffWiswell The Pocket 3 has been a very valuable tool for me this year, from a family vacation to multiple paid gigs where it saved me. It is fragile, but worth the need for some TLC not needed with a pro camera.
Today a friend gave me the Ulanzi MT-79 light stand/tripod. I recommend checking it out. It’s a little flimsy when extended to 79”, but allows for some really nice high shots. And the tripod legs are large and Saturday while still keeping the total size and weight minimal when closed down. Last week I worked with a team of photographers and videographers at a big convention here in Houston. The Pocket 3 shots, including motion lapse, hyper lapse and standard shots were really what made the daily social media videos. The client was beet pleased.
I also invested in the Tilta cage for the extra battery that comes with the Pocket 3 kit. At times I’ll use the DJI phone mount that came with my Ronin RS2 and attach it to the NATO rail. The 2” screen is nice, but when you want the phone screen too it’s nice ti keep it all in one hand.
Enjoy that Pocket 3 and your vacation!
An interesting point you demonstrated was that you can use multiple images to bring out the shadow detail if you're concerned about dynamic range.
@@rcrinsea thanks! In this case, I used flash to light the subject and then brought up the shadows completely. I combined two photos of them each lit separately.
@@JeffWiswell - Any reason why you didn't use exposure bracketing?
@@rcrinsea Great question! I love exposure bracketing and HDR (in a thoughtful and not over-the-top way) but flash for portraits makes it way easier to focus the light on the subject when shooting through glass, especially. Maybe it's worth doing a video to show that in practice. I'll add it to the list.
Sorry, either your audio is off, or you’re a bot. Your lips don’t seem to be moving in sync with the words. I feel like I’m watching “Johnny Quest.” It just doesn’t look natural. I’m having a hard time focusing on the content because “something ain’t right.”
😂😂😂
Good to know. I wonder if something was off in the render but I'll check it out and get that fixed. Thanks!
I’m three minutes in and I already appreciate the nuanced insights you’ve provided. Thank you!
Thanks so much!!
The focus point feature has been in other cameras u jus need to enable it see where the focus was
According to Tony it 95 to 97% shots in focus in sports so not sure if it's significant Improvement .
Probably depends on what you're shooting. If far away sports like football, I could see there being some similarity. For anything close, like sitting courtside at a basketball game, I suspect that the R5 ii is far better. I photograph my kids, and it's a revolutionary improvement over the original R5.
@JeffWiswell Tony photographed a fast moving person moving randomly towards camera then counted the number of in focus shots.Im sure R511 is better but I think after 4 years of technology development we expected something more revolutionary not to question if the older model had better dynamic range and less noise.

Thanks for sharing! I don't remember that in the R5
@@JeffWiswell used it on my 7d
@@The_Idea_of_Dream_Vision that's awesome. I don't remember it being on the R5 but maybe I missed it. Anyway, thanks for watching and letting me know!
