A trick I learned in West Texas.... when you mix it up, add a few drops of dishwashing detergent. That makes it stick to the leaves a bit better (there is some science behind it). Has always worked well for me.
Thanks!! The property was completely covered in vines and thorn bushes. You couldn’t even walk through it but this past fall I almost spent every Saturday out in the woods cutting down the under brush and and and burning it. It was a lot of work but so worth it and fun too!
No, I tried to avoid anything that I wanted to keep. The poison says it works through contact with the leaves of the plant but I would still avoid praying the trees if possible as I'm not sure if it will have an impact on the trees. Thanks!
At first time i tought it was the water that i was drinking it was giving me itches after 2 month i figure out every time i cleab my backyard inches come back again, so i figure out i has poison ivy this is soooo bad I recommend dont eve get close to this ivy
Simon I was told by someone that it takes a whole year to kill the poison ivy after being sprayed. They said that it takes that long for the poison to dry up the urushiol. Do you know if this is true?
Mine was dead within a month or two. I sprayed it once and it seemed to do the trick. All the big patches are dead and I have seen a few small plants pop up this year so I’ll go spray those and that should take care or it.
The plant can only uptake so much. Think of using a 5 gallon bucket to fill up a 1 cup measuring cup. Any amount of water over 1 cup that you dump from the 5 gallon bucket into the cup will just overflow and will be wasted. Companies selling it (similar to toothpaste companies) market it like you need a lot more than you need, because it doesn't hurt anything.... except your wallet.
Thanks! I basically went through the woods and cut all of the ivy growing up the trees at the base. I had some that were 3-4in thick. I let them die in the trees and they fell down on there own anything that was smaller along the ground I strayed and didn't bother pulling. It seemed to work really well. You want the leaves to soak up the poison and carry it down to the roots to kill the whole plant.
In the beginning when you were showing poison ivy, you showed a few plants that were not poison Ivy. The serrated edges are a dead giveaway that it is not poison Ivy.
@nhow4 I own a poison ivy remediation company. Been doing it ten years. Serrated is not true with poison ivy. It has lobes or notches and every set of 3 leaflets looks different.
I have an annoying neighbor whose backyard but something mine who had Poison Ivy in his yard so he build a shed and fabricated like a makeshift sent along the rest of his fence line and essentially barricades of poison ivy between that and my fence and yard so now the poison ivy has become my problem! I have used the exact product that he's holding up except I got the big jug that has the application wand but either one works depending on how many fluid ounces you need I also used The black-and-white Jug from or so that kills more than just poison ivy as well now I had Vines and other undesirable things mixed in with poison ivy so I didn't care I went to town spraying everything and I got to say if you spray heavy you're seeing death by the next day if you start early in the morning and it's a really nice sunny day I don't know if the sun activates it more or not but you'll see some death starting by that night and when I say gas I mean there were parts of the ground because of how sick the brush line was mixed in with poison ivy that I had seen in years and after the skills everything I could see the dirt and the grass that was underneath and the rest was all dead sticks and wilted leaves book please be on the safe side make sure you're covered up like you're going to war and a hazmat suit and bag everything was love and then dispose of the bag so it's not getting mixed in with other compost or getting burned I even waited for the trash man to come on yard waste day and I walked up to them face-to-face instead these bags contains dead poison ivy that I can't guarantee doesn't have an ounce of Wheels still on a stem or a leaf please be careful which they said they appreciated unfortunately I did miss some spots and we've already gotten some warm weather it's now the second week in June so I will be buying another bottle and killing the living crap out of everything again this weekend and then by midweek I'll be pulling it all out and then my goal is because I am super anal about getting rid of it because my husband is allergic to poison ivy so it takes him several rounds of antibiotics and trips to the doctor and about 2 months to get rid of the effects of poison ivy I will be along that fence line actually digging up the soil about an inch or so those were just to make sure I'm getting all the roof. Then I'm going to bag it take it to the next town over where we have a creek line that really only murderers and people doing drugs would probably hang out along that Creek line in the woods so I'm going to dump it there and then it'll be their problem and the creepy Critters that live there LOL you're going to spend anywhere between 20 to $25 on this bottle depending on where you live inflation and if the story you're buying a promise having a sale typical evening get it from Lowe's or Home Depot I find that if place like Walmart sell it or $2 cheaper I think the box that hooks to your hose it's more like Seventeen or eighteen dollars if you buy the bigger bottle with that little battery-operated application 12 spending at the most 22 or at the most $22

How much did you end ip using on your two acres?
I used hot water, about half of the large bottle of table salt, and Dawn dish soap and it killed it within a week or two.
What is the name of spray you used
Thanks for all the great info! Love your property too! #lifegoals

Did you spray the trees?

You might want to wear a respirator when spraying that stuff.
True! I’ll remember that for next time.
Poison Ivy is the worst. This is good info. I have a back field that is gradually being taken over by this horrible plant.
Yeah this stuff in very invasive and can easily take over if not dealt with. Thanks!! 😁
How long for the oil in the plant to dry up safe to be around? Thanks
What is the stuff you used ?
Bio Advanced Brush Killer Plus
I like this for real
Thanks!
What is the name of the product - how is it spelled ? Viewer from Canada here

Yes it takes 1 year for urushiol to disperse
why not use it full strength? Seems it would do a better job.

It's bio advanced brush killer.
It works great but you just want to be careful not to spray anything you want to keep.
Is it better to pull the ivy and then spray ?
