      We have done the odd live and possibly will do them from time to time but that's usually from home. From the open boat would be very tricky plus the times we fish. Up until a couple of years ago I could not even get a signal on my phone outside the bay 😄

    Hi folks I see that you are still at it trying to make a living from the sea ..
    Unfortunately in my part of the UK many have sold up. And have taken up other jobs.
    Which is a shame as there's nothing better than fresh fish .for people to eat..a friend of mine gave up his lobster fishing boat a few months ago ..
    Because of over fishing by boats from outside of the UK.
    Sadly this is the end of generations of his family fishing UK waters.
    Anyway folks stay safe and well...may the sun always shine on you and may the wind always be at your back...

      There seems a lot of mismanagement over there. Unfortunately it affects many of the smaller boats and shore fishermen but seems to do nothing against the industrial fishing where often the real problems lay. When fish is only seen as a commodity and shareholders are commanding the fleets you will only end up with serious problems.

      @@Trojwaterman mate I'm only glad that I am retired now
      Otherwise I would have been looking for something other than fishing to make a living for my family.
      The last trip out on a trawler .was a two wk tip in the north sea . wages after every thing was paid for..was pitiful.
      This was not down to the skipper it was down to a complete lack of fish..for years we had to dump fish because of European regalations..
      Unfortunately this only made it worse.for the fish stocks.
      So my hat is off to you for making a living from the sea.and long may it continue... perhaps governments will realise that what is going on will be a disaster for future generations..

    Great underwater short film, with the light /depth, were you about 20m?
    Seeing the size of the mackerel being quite large, have you or are you catching small Bonito? as I have been speaking to friends in Paimpol Brittany and they have had a few in the last four weeks.
    Many thanks for your video blogs, thoroughly enjoyable, keep on going.(from the Island to the SE/SSE of you.)

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  7 місяців тому

      Yes around 20m. I have not had any bonito in the last 5 years or so but the couple of years prior I caught several small bonito and one at 4lb We were also catching chub mackerel in those years.

      As I said at the beginning they were caught over several days. It can also be when areas are well fed the lobsters do not need to go in lobster pots for a long time or simply areas that have not had many pots in for a while. Also lobsters do move around.

    Have you ever tried potting much further offshore in areas that are not harvested so frequently, Troy? I realise lobsters migrate but do such areas hold bigger lobsters because they live longer?

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  8 місяців тому +2

      If you go to far out you would end up where the larger commercial boat pot strings are. They do hundreds to thousands of pots for brown crab plus lobster and you don't want to end up laying your gear over theirs or vice versa. The depth would be to deep and waters to fast for my small boat.
