    In the American armed forces, there are very few of us who understand [a little] of what a Commonwealth soldier means when they say 'The Regiment'. Troopers in our cavalry regiments and soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Regiment 'The Old Guard' pretty much head that list.
    I served in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment patrolling the Inter-German border way back when rocks were soft, fire was new, and Cold Warriors and other dinosaurs proudly walked the Earth. By the time of Desert Storm, I'd been medical'd out of the Army and I can't tell you how pissed off I was when I found out that My Regiment had deployed into a combat theater for the first time since Vietnam and I was going to miss it. I swear to God, I think I would have been willing to commit the atrocity of your choice if I could have saddled up on my tank again.
    So, if it's not intruding, please allow an old American cavalry corporal to offer his deep respects and sincere regards to the Lighthorsemen of 10LH. CONGRATULATIONS on getting your colors back. A respectful tip of the Stetson to you.
    Oh, and I LOVE the old veterans who put together a mounted detachment. NEVER let them take your horses, boys. It part of who we are.

    Re-establish a regiment of infantry or cavalry or artillery is an incredible feat that you're fighting back against the situation that caused a de-establishment of your regiment.
    Congratulations 10LH and @AustralianArmy

      His one failing was selling the Skyhawks to the kiwis, they were a great training aid when we had them and they realised that when Bomber sold them to the kiwis at mates rates.

      Without a doubt. He was the only MP from ALP or LNP to insist on raising our ADF Pay levels above the poverty line.

      I was in his Rhodes Scholar class. Though I'm not a big fan of today's Labor Party, IMO he did do a pretty good job as DM for a lad of 36. But he's not in fellow Rhodie Bob Hawke's beer-drinking league, despite ample girth. Few are. Chunder!

    The original 10th LH were part of the tragic and ill-conceived charge at the Nek during the Gallipoli campaign of 1915. After that disaster it was said that the pride of WA's grazing families was lost that day.

    Great to see the Regiment re-raised, My Great Uncle Ted Roberts was in the 10th at Gallipoli. Was Mentioned in Dispatches for actions during the battle for Hill 60.

    Stuff like this makes me proud to be an Aussie. The 10th were the stuff of heroism, so full of bravery and courage - they deserve to become a legend like the 300 Spartans of King Leonidas.

    • @GAFloppa
      @GAFloppa 3 роки тому +1

      De-amalgamated is the phrase I would use. We have a similar setup in the UK with old and very distinguished cav Regiments now reduced to Squadron or Troop size within newer amalgams. Very rare for a unit to be fully disbanded.

    • @overworlder
      @overworlder 3 роки тому +1

      @@GAFloppa - Thanks for the comment. Nice to know Blighty is taking an interest.
      But it was not amalgamated with any other regiment. It was simply A Squadron, 10th Light Horse. Now expanded to more squadrons. Did a brief search for how many but didn’t find an answer.
      [edit - I just rewatched it and the brigadier used ‘re-raised’. I think I might stop quibbling.]
      [edit 2 - and you're right, it was under an infantry battalion HQ. I guess that is amalgamated.]

    • @rocklobster112
      @rocklobster112 3 роки тому +1

      It's the re-raising of 10th light horse as a Regiment, A and B squadron. Previously had been only A squadron under 11/28 regimental command.

    XLH Regiment has continually served since formation in 1914. The raising (again) from A Sqn XLH, to a Regiment provides current & future generations of West Australians additional capacity to undertake purposeful service within the ADF.

    ..oh dear. Queen Alexandra's Mounted Rifles, tracing its history back to 1864, sport amber and black as its regimental colours. Their guidon party also carry lances with amber and black pennons. QAMR are the oldest serving regular force unit in the New Zealand Army.

      Military uniform, ceremonial kit especially, is supposed to be snug fit. If your guts should hang out after putting on a service shirt then for all intents and purposes you are the one who should lose weight.
