Of course, Vox is an American show, not British show. It shouldn't attract anyone unless they felt need to click in base on the video title. Does the video title very attractive to British?
And this is what fills your life with purpose? There is nothing special about the British monarchy of waist. The past is over, enough with burning people at the stake for translating the Bible into English and selling worthless memorabilia at exorbitant prices to people without a life.
yeah, but when they venture into politics it gets icky for a lot people. These types of videos are much more informative in my opinion - especially because they often dicsuss intricusies of things I never even thought were that interesting!
Shaun O'Brien You mean thing like everyone else? Sure why not ! Hive minds for everybody! (F.Y.I This is me being snarky and sarcastic I wouldn't want anyone else that reads this that I support you innocuous statement.)
This is very true. Even a video I have no interest in, I'm still putting the efort into making a comment to say say. Thgere has been one video, (I think it was Vox) that I blatantly disagreed with due to lack of research and the resulting spread of misinformation in the video, and that was the video on the Ketogenic Diet. The MODERN history of which, by the way, extends back into the mid to early 20th century. But other than that, I'm very happy with this channel!
Correction: at 0:32 the building pictured is mistakenly identified as Westminster Cathedral, when it is in fact Westminster Abbey. We're working on updating the video now!
not really the royal family are an integral part of the british culture and even if you don't care about that our taxes are cheaper because of their estates and tourism
Thomas Whitcomb Prom King/ Prom Queen, they are absolutely obsessed with monarchy, I’ve heard more Americans talk about the royal family than any British person
It's funny that people actually think that's true... why would I watch a wedding? really, think about it... there's no reason to, it's not part of history, the only thing historical about it is that they're breaking Royalties by Marrying not only a peasant but an outsider... this is literally the death of the royal family.
Phexism "this is literally the death of the royal family." - Nope, it literally isn't. And it is history in the making and it's generates a lot of economic activity, and millions like it, so it's a win win, you miserable git.
Mr. Braddock It actually is... this is the generation in which the Royal family dies, it's history in their downfall... the royal family are popular because of their royalties and history... they're not abiding by royalty rules, they're lowering their standards, basically doing what anyone else can do and that's marry any class and any ethnicity. I'm not miserable at all, in-fact I'm glad this is happening to some extent, I'm only miserable that people are actually interested in this bollocks.
I'm so glad you mentioned this, I've been losing sleep over this fact for days. They're not having a fruit cake! Get over it people. No fruit cake means no fruit cake. Hopefully they''ll having something a bit more strong and stable.
Not within the last 300 years at least, i am not sure if any have ever eloped, in the history of the monarchy, unless you consider all the minor royals in which case it would have been fairly recently.
I don't know if this counts as an elopement, but in case you meant a royal wedding without all the fuss Prince Charles and Camilla had a small ceremony at a civil court house
From what I saw in Netflix's Crown, when a royal member is severely ill and in a condition that might result in their death soon the soldiers at the castle start practicing immediately for the funeral. Imagine hearing the soldier's practice for your own funeral while you just lay on the bed.
Barry Shitpeas no because there is no actual use of them but monarchies keep them because it's a part of their history (therefore culture and tradition)
Camilla Ek there mainly used for welcoming foreign leaders, charity work and an excuse to have public holidays. Also the army is loyal to the monarch not the prime minister. This means in theory that the queen controls the army. The monarch also acts as someone above the prime minister
A nit, but at 3:06, the CC transcript says "If there's any heart that hasn't been *run over* by her today..." when in fact it should be "won over." (The announcer - probably Jonathan Ross - had that weird Received Pronunciation impediment where Rs sound like Ws.)
Kind of sad to see so many British people here saying crap about the royal family. Why click on a video and watch said video if you do not care for nor like the royal family. The royal family have and will continue to provide a sense of security and consistency. They have and will continue to return money to her majesty's treasury via profits from the crown estate, the family only receives 15% of this. The queen will continue to pay from her personal finances for several items. No point coming to a video on royals saying we don't care while a lot of still do. There's a reason the queen has a higher approval rating then most politicians.
As a Brit, I literally could not care less about this wedding. Harry most likely won't ever be king anyway. The only good thing about William's wedding was that we got a day off, which they're not even giving us this time round.
Phoebe HB Bank Holidays are too expensive. Royal Weddings actually generate revenue for the tax payer as they increases tourism and retail. But that would be cancelled out from the loss of productivity if we had a bank holiday. What’s the point in having a royal family if they don’t generate money?
Actually, it’s reported that the royal family generate 1.2 billion pounds of revenue. This is without tourism, as the amount of money they generate from that is hard to estimate. The royal estates throughout the uk generate a lot of money. Though I can see why people don’t like the entitlement of the royal family.
It's not called pomp and circumstance, perhaps it is in america but in the UK (our Royal Family after all) it is called Land of Hope and Glory, and yes it does actually have words. Further it is not used just as a superficial splash of faux splendor as in american graduations but has actual history, proper use and a decent name.
The first time I had heard "Land of Hope and Glory" was at my high school graduation. Only it was called "Pomp and Circumstance". I never knew about the first title or the words till very recently (via a UA-cam video from the BBC Proms).
Apparently it's glamorous to throw a great pile of taxpayers money into the wedding of two spoiled individuals instead of using them to mend important social and ecological issues.
rares mircea According to the people on here, the wedding was paid by Charles (security is paid by taxes) and the Royal Family generate more money than spend.
And don't forget the £304.1 million from the Crown Estate given to the government. The tax bill for the British citizen is lower because of this annual revenue from the Crown Estate.
Any kind of public expenditure for a one-day celebration of two millionaire individuals is anything BUT a sane idea. Also, regarding public money, the BBC says: "[..]when we rang Thames Valley Police, it said: "We aren't going to give you any data I'm afraid - even though we know you love numbers." However, we do know £6.35m was spent by the Metropolitan Police (i.e. the taxpayer) on security for Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding. That's based on a 'Freedom of Information' request released to the Press Association." Secondly, "Bridebook.co.uk, a wedding planning service, says the total cost of the wedding could be £32m - including the cost of security." - i doubt that, but i'm certain it was well over 2-3 million pounds, which is a "filthy" sum considering the social context (even in UK) and considering it was for a one-day event. From CNN, "A royal wedding is a private, personal event, dressed up as a national occasion. That lets the royals use the wedding as a PR exercise and [expects] the taxpayer will pay a large part of the costs." "Taxpayers should not be funding a private wedding, no matter who is getting married," said Republic, a London-based group that campaigns against the British monarchy." - this sounds like common sense to me. And perhaps most importantly, to those saying that the royals are feeding the people and not the other way around (and mind you.. the royals don't eat what we eat :) - www.republic.org.uk/what-we-want/royal-finances
Immediate comments about wondering why Americans are interested in the British royal family lol. Let those people have their fun. ;P _I_ just think it’s funny America was so opposed to a monarchy back in the day, but now people enjoy looking at the royal family as basically celebrities.

Are you sure democracy is a good thing? No. Not at all. Same with other ideology. The only good ideology is Monarchs. They able to hold the countries. And did you know, _"Royals are born to rule."_ they are a master of ruling a country and not like democracy where a business man who have no experience rulling a single city decide to run a presidential campaign. Back in the days, The Royals is pretty tight schedule where at the age of 10, you must able to learn the economics and public speech. Which is why Royal are the perfect leader.
Our daily podcast, Today Explained, tackled the royal wedding. It's a cynic's guide to the event. Listen here: bit.ly/2IzaK3o
Can you actually do real news?

It’s a little sad when I saw Diane’s footage. But I’m happy for her sons finally found their significant others.
Hopefully her son won't be killed by her own family for dating a non-white person like she was.

Vox doesn't matter hun, no one will notice lol
Thanks was going to address it but everything else Spot on!
Vox chillll no one cares
I care.
That is a big distinction as Royals are not allowed to be married in the Westminister Cathedral, as it is Roman Catholic.
Ahhh thanks for the tutorial, in the case I ever need to plan a royal wedding I'll come back to this video.
But still, great video as always
You don't know how useful the video was I'm constantly being forced to plan royal weddings, can anyone else relate
For more, please wait 5 years for the season 6 of The Crown
Don’t let them confuse you - none of us actually care about the royals.
We all just want the day off.
It's happening on a Saturday. For most people Saturday is already a day off.
Gautam Chaudhuri Hence why there’s even less public interest 😂
Gautam Chaudhuri well that's annoying
And we don’t even get that. The sooner this country becomes a republic, the better.
not really the royal family are an integral part of the british culture and even if you don't care about that our taxes are cheaper because of their estates and tourism
In America, Do they play pomp and circumstance at high school graduations?
Weird.
Thomas Whitcomb Every single one. I played it in high school 4 times, one for each year.
Yup! I believe Vox actually has a video on how that happened
Wow, you graduated from high school four times?
josepharte What?
Thomas Whitcomb Prom King/ Prom Queen, they are absolutely obsessed with monarchy, I’ve heard more Americans talk about the royal family than any British person

1:33 the police helmet hits the guys head lol
"This is such a fashion moment" wtf
No but she has a point
Vox, you have an amazing way of making even something I couldn't care less about absolutely fascinating.
I'm British and couldn't care less about the Royal Weddings, good video though!
George Dutton I hope they live in a dumpster
George Dutton then why r u watching 😂😂😂
You cared enough to click on this video
god save the queen
They throw money at the issue until it is solved

That's good. Fruit cake's the worst of all cakes. Blech.
i rather doubt she still has her cherry.
For those who say "I don't care", everyone loves to watch random stuff on UA-cam and that's it
Diana being written in in the wedding register as "spinster" - outrageous
When's the last time a royal couple _eloped?_
Not within the last 300 years at least, i am not sure if any have ever eloped, in the history of the monarchy, unless you consider all the minor royals in which case it would have been fairly recently.

The fact that 600 people invited is for an informal wedding is kind wild.
That Mexican flag at 1:30 cracked me 😂😂
Was surprised to see them kiss as soon as they exited Windsor castle. Kinda didnt expect that.
3:35 lmaoo smartass
I would be more interested in a video of how the royals plan the deaths of princess'
From what I saw in Netflix's Crown, when a royal member is severely ill and in a condition that might result in their death soon the soldiers at the castle start practicing immediately for the funeral. Imagine hearing the soldier's practice for your own funeral while you just lay on the bed.
I couldn't believe that did that,Just because they didn't want to see Diana give birth to an Arab child
I said any royal member.
kebab same like u do in saudi
Muhhumed al kebab Not very smartly, apparently
I’m British and I Literally couldn’t care less about the wedding because they wouldn’t care about ours so...
Gotta hire British Royals to plan my wedding
Why do we even have royals now a days?
slorr55 tradition, culture
Camilla Ek Neither of those are actual reasons though
Barry Shitpeas no because there is no actual use of them but monarchies keep them because it's a part of their history (therefore culture and tradition)
because they were never officially abolished?
Camilla Ek there mainly used for welcoming foreign leaders, charity work and an excuse to have public holidays. Also the army is loyal to the monarch not the prime minister. This means in theory that the queen controls the army. The monarch also acts as someone above the prime minister
How much I care about the wedding is dictated by how many days I get off
Looking at this comment section, I feel like I either have to hate the royal family, or love them. Can't I just not care?
@Joel Ashworth exactly
I remember watching the last Royal Wedding here on UA-cam of all places.
Yay, super excited to be in London for this this weekend, gotta get a commemorative mug! 👸🏽🤴🏼
Vladimir Putin omg lol
Science with Katie You should get the mugs. Maybe they can fetch a good price in the future.
Shame for you that it's not happening in London ;-)
I think the mood will be great! Although it's not going to be a public holiday like the last royal wedding, so probably far less crowds
I see you, like, everywhere!
A nit, but at 3:06, the CC transcript says "If there's any heart that hasn't been *run over* by her today..." when in fact it should be "won over." (The announcer - probably Jonathan Ross - had that weird Received Pronunciation impediment where Rs sound like Ws.)
For some reason even this trivial stuff sounds so interesting and engaging when coming from Vox. Yet another great video lads, keep up the good work.
Kind of sad to see so many British people here saying crap about the royal family. Why click on a video and watch said video if you do not care for nor like the royal family. At least somebody here knows what the Crown Estate is.
Haha thanks
I genuinely don’t know a single person excited for this wedding. I live in England by the way.
As a Brit, I literally could not care less about this wedding. Harry most likely won't ever be king anyway. The only good thing about William's wedding was that we got a day off, which they're not even giving us this time round.

royal family hardly generate money if they werent around their 'tourism vacuum' would just get filled by sumother bs
Their wouldn't be a boost in tourism this weekend if there wasn't a Royal wedding.
Why are you so negative
Actually, it’s reported that the royal family generate 1.2 billion pounds of revenue. This is without tourism, as the amount of money they generate from that is hard to estimate. When a very royal British person gets married with a very unroyal American! Overall a nice couple!
Reminds me of my x.......
Saw wedding on telly in comfort of recliner. It was early here, across the pond, but not for night owls. Cheers 🍻😻.
My God is it still a wedding at this point jeez
I actually didn't hear one thing where I was like, why would they do this at a wedding? It's just enormous but still very much a wedding to me.
Wow, a vox BBC Colab. Never expected that.
What difference does this wedding make for the rest of the world?
Has brought us together
One way of controlling people.
Just a quick note, regardless of what the tune is called in the US, in Britain the tune is called 'Land of Hope and Glory' not 'Pomp and Circumstance'
The royal wedding is totally crucial to our survival as a species.
love this one a lot
I’m scared about how much this relates to me. I can barely breathe without a new royal Christmas card, photo, wedding etc.
I can’t wait to watch it, however now live in the U.S. so I have to wake up early to watch it😭
I love how most Americans are so exsisted yet you ask the average Brit it’s like whatever
I recall that there here is a nice documentary of Canadian royal wedding's customs in an episode of South Park.
Really fantastic video Vox! But in all honesty, I couldn't care less about royal weddings xD
I stayed up all night for the wedding dressed in my Star Wars PJs
"Usually buttoned up Brits" lol, maybe toffs are buttoned up. Everyone else practically riots when their football teams wins.
It's not called pomp and circumstance, perhaps it is in america but in the UK (our Royal Family after all) it is called Land of Hope and Glory, and yes it does actually have words. TheVikas I don't either. Why are we here?
1. Plan wedding.
2. Tell vox to make a video
3. Invite Big Shaq.
I had no idea Prince Harry was about to get married. 😂
Same, maybe cause I'm Canadian and literally no one cares here. Seriously, I didn't even know who the Queen was married to for the longest time
@@SM-qv2om nobody cares who is married on the throne
The most interesting fact about this wedding is the proximity of it's date to the BREXIT. It came in the right time. 👀
But when will VOX do their “How reptilians plan an uprising” video? It’s actually surprisingly similar. Keep asking questions
I think I’d rather watch flies procreate.
But, great quality, as usual, Vox.

Why does it bother you so much when other people are enjoying something?
can someone tell me why thousands of people want to see the wedding ? ( apart from family/ friends/ relationships etc)
i still don't get why people would waste their time to see some wedding where the time could have used for something else
guess im too young to understand .-.
Well, it also reaffirms the monarchy is healthy, which is kind of important given that the end of the monarchy would create a constitutional crisis.
"the rest of the country nurse a hangover" I dunno what you're on mate I didn't know you could get a hangover from tea
Sooo, why do I need to care about this?
You don't, a poll has shown that 2/3rds of Britons don't either so you're in good company.
No one asked you too mate ahah
Vox makes boring topics interesting
I hope they (and the rest of the royals) live in a dumpster
Yeah. The main reason I popularize/support the Queen is because it is a huge tourist attraction and she generates a LOT of tourism money

Communism works ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
