That cream separator is really interesting. As a child we’d get raw cows milk from our family friend and I’d shake that quart jar. Lots of work but so educational. Great video
I used to get about 6 gallons of raw cows milk when all my children were growing up. We would make butter every week with my grandma’s butter churn. I loved my homemade butter.
WOW! What a treasure to have your Grandma's butter churn!! I have the cheese press my grandfather (a blacksmith) made my grandmother from some parts of an old horse drawn machine. I treasure that!!
Just want to thank you for turning me on to this collaboration!! Since seeing this video (the first time) I've watched nearly all of them to catch up! I'm loving all of them!! Thanks so much Heather!! 😊 God bless!
So awesome, thank you for sharing and giving so many tips/options! I am excited and curious to see if the dehydrated (whole) milk can be turned into butter/cheese, so I'll be looking for that for sure come fall/winter! (Whenever you get around to it, no rush from me! Just happy you mentioned it as something you plan to try.)
I can see recipes online for soft cheeses and mozzarella using storebought dehydrated milk but I'm thinking homemade freezedried raw milk may be better and have more options? We shall see!
That looks delicious!!! It's been a long time since I have made butter. When I was little my grandmother would make her butter by shaking the milk in a jar. Of course I always wanted to help but would soon get bored with the shaking.😂 Thanks for sharing and stay safe!!!
Wow, I didn’t know this was milk month but what fun. I have just three dairy goats I have been milking since March. I get about 1-1/2 gallons per day. I’ve been making chèvre, cheddar cheese, yogurt, evaporated milk, dehydrated milk, and some butter. This is awesome and what a reward because it’s so fresh! I love your cream separator and I am going to be looking into one. I love using my Bosch mixer to make cheese. A lot less mess. I laughed at my husband when he watched this with me. He said oh my she kisses her goats like you. 😂 I said that’s how we love them. Keep up the good work Heather. Hopefully I’ll be able to ship your package soon from nawnee’s Homemades. Peace friend

This is a fantastic video. Thank you for taking so much time to show a lot of ways you are using, storing, and utilizing all the milk in different ways. This year we got 2 bottle baby milk goats that we hope will start our herd down the lovely road of dairy and with this collaboration, we can not wait to make all these lovely things with milk. Thank you again for explaining so much in detail! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Loved your video! New here. Very thorough. (: Been milking my Oberhasli, and recently found our Nigerians have the most butter fat percentage, so we are now on the hunt for a couple of does.
I can confirm that is very true about Nigerians! We are having kids born in October but I am not sure where you are located. Nigerians are everywhere though!
@@SageandStoneHomestead We are in Oklahoma. They sure are, we kept wondering why so many people wanted them, other than maybe they were smaller and easier to keep in fencing. 😆 Now I know! We're getting ready to build a milk parlor in the next couple of months, I'm super excited about that.
There are a lot of benefits to Nigerians over standard breeds. Maybe I'll touch on that in a video soon. If I were to pick one breed it would be the Nigerian Dwarf.
Thank you so much for explaining the cream separator! We don't have any dairy animals yet, but I was wondering if that was a piece of equipment we needed or was just a nice thing to have. Since we weren't planning on cows, but rather goats and sheep, a cream separator has gone on our "needed equipment" list. 😁
New at this goat deal. My daughter is in 4H and lives dairy goats. This would be our fort year breeding so it is wonderful to learn new things to make with goats milk.
Wonderful video, Heather! I'm making cheese today (some yesterday too. 😋 ). I was amazed at how much cream was at the top of my jars! Seriously thought about skimming it off but then wouldn't have enough for cheese. Going up to my daughter's this weekend for a large swap meet & want to take her some. All her goats, all that milk... but she doesn't have time to make cheese! 😂🤣
@@SageandStoneHomestead that sounds intriguing! A recipe you'll be sharing with us? My yesterday's cheese was Egg (or Easter) Cheese. My refrigerator runneth over with eggs & I love this cheese on a sandwich!
Probably eventually, yes! I've made Colby, Monterey jack, and now Derby and have tasted NONE so far except for a few moist non-aged curds from each batch! My first cheese will be ready to taste at the end of this month and then we will get to open cheeses every week or so if we want to taste them!! So far I've only made cheeses that can be considered finished by 6 weeks. Though most will improve over 3 to 6 months total!
I am jealous, I've got 7 kids and we use butter all the time. We'll go through 12 sticks a week, easily, and are going broke buying store-bought. I was really thinking you'd get more out of that much milk!
We definitely do when the store has alfalfa!! I'll usually get a quart and a half from 4 gallons, the extra 2 gallons should have given about 3/4 of another quart but not this time. This is one reason we started breeding mini lamanchas, to get the volume WITH the nigerian butterfat! In time!!
@@SageandStoneHomesteadis that a cross between lamancha and Nigerian dwarf? I have always steered away from ND because of lack of volume but maybe I should consider adding to my adult lamancha herd. Would love to be able to make butter. In your opinion, is it possible to make butter effectively with just standard full size goat breeds? (I have lamancha and Nubian)
@@joshirwin5245 yes you can make butter from their cream for sure. They just usually offer less cream per gallon than ND, but the volume helps make up for that.
Loved seeing your baby goats, so excited with their tails waging. You did a fantastic job explains the butter making process, equipment and uses of the skim. The separator looks intense so good on ya for providing a healthy option for your family! Thank you so much.
I have been following all the collaboration channels. More Than Farmers, The Purposeful Pantry and Homesteading with the Zimmerman's have been my to go to channels. Wow! You are an amazing fount of dairy knowledge. Great video on butter. Never thought you could make butter from goat milk. Learning so much from yo all.
I have been playing with my cream separator for a few years. It looks like we have the same unit. There are a couple of things I do differently. First, I run about 3 cups of the hottest tap water through the unit to heat up the disc. They work better. Second, at the end, I heat up 3 cups of skimed milk to 120 degrees F. I run this through the separator after all the other milk is finished. It melts any hardened cream in the disc for better emptying. I use skimmed milk to make ricotta. I whip the cheese after it has strained, and add back some of the butter and a bit of salt for flavor.
I tried this today and it came out great! I don't have a cream spinner so I just spooned off the cream layer and saved it in the freezer until I had enough. Some day I will invest in one but that worked for now!
Great video! I'm excited for this collaboration hopefully it'll give me more idea for using up all of our milk! Where is your cream separator from? Do you recommend it or do you wish you had a bigger one?
I really enjoy it and I don't think a bigger one is necessary since i can't lift the giant pot until it is nearly empty anyway! It's from Caprine Supply online and is called "Slavic Beauty".

I'd say it's needed for sure to get the most out of the milk! ♥️
New at this goat deal. My daughter is in 4H and lives dairy goats. This would be our fort year breeding so it is wonderful to learn new things to make with goats milk.
Goats are the best!
I really enjoyed your video. Love the wagging tails when babies are drinking. Thank you for sharing the butter making process. >Susan
The little tails are adorable! Thanks for watching! ♥
Recently found this channel and am loving it. I have been binge watching! Thank you for all the wonderfully useful information.
Welcome to the channel! Glad to have you :)
Thank you so much for showing us how to do butter separate the milk can't wait to do it!!🤗
Wonderful video, Heather! 😂🤣
Isn't that funny how life works! That's why it's great to work together! I'm making cheese today too! Derby Cheese!
@@SageandStoneHomestead I've never aged cheese but would like to. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out!
thankyou so much for everything you do. You are amazing !
I appreciate that! ❤️ thanks for being here!
Excellent tutorial on making goat butter!
Thank you!!
And yes a mini lamancha is a lamancha crossed with a Nigerian Dwarf. :)
@@SageandStoneHomestead thanks for the info!
I love that cream separator! This was a wonderful tutorial thank you so much for sharing! 😊❤
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Loved seeing your baby goats, so excited with their tails waging. You did a fantastic job explains the butter making process, equipment and uses of the skim. The separator looks intense so good on ya for providing a healthy option for your family! Thank you so much.
I love the cream separator ! A little intimidating at first but very useful! Thanks for watching!
Great collaboration! I’m going to be referring back to these videos a lot!!
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for showing us the cream separator. That looks like it makes it more easier.
You're so welcome!! Thanks for watching!
I have been following all the collaboration channels. More Than Farmers, The Purposeful Pantry and Homesteading with the Zimmerman's have been my to go to channels. So I am in 7 channels so far and I wanted you to know I absolutely love this video you made on how to make butter. I will be watching more of your channel and I will be making some butter, SOON! Thank you!
Thank you so much!! ♥ Welcome to the channel :)
Thank you for this video! So awesome that you are able to make so much of your own butter! Goats are one of my future/long term goals and I thought it wasn't possible to make butter from goats milk. Thank you for sharing that you are able to.
You're so welcome! You can make anything with goats milk that you can with cows milk as long as you have a cream separator!
I so love collaborations! I get fun videos from all my favorite channels and I get to know new channels as well!
I always enjoy seeing all your sweet goat babies🥰
Thanks so much!! ♥️

Yes hopefully someday!! Thanks so much for watching !
Love your farm, I miss living on a farm so much... Living through you 🤣
Thanks so much! Happy to provide that bit of nostalgia! ♥
Wow! You are an amazing fount of dairy knowledge. Great video on butter. Never thought you could make butter from goat milk. Learning so much from yo all.
Awe thanks so much! ♥
This video is loaded with good information.
Thank you!!
Thank you for the tips! ♥
Very interesting! You explain very well how to make butter. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
I tried this today and it came out great! I don't have a cream spinner so I just spooned off the cream layer and saved it in the freezer until I had enough. Some day I will invest in one but that worked for now!
Yay that's awesome!!
Oh wow! I didn't realize you could make butter from goats milk, this is great information. Thank you for participating!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
What a nice video! Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It was so cool to watch the butter making! The babies are getting big! Thank You!
Thanks so much!!
