It showed how well he’s a great pro wrestler and not at all a fighter, but i shows how he’s willing to try something new even if there’s a high probability he will get his ass kicked and publicly shamed for it and it shows he’s pretty frickin tough. The way AEW is treating the legends is phenomenal. I love how they pay homage to the Stinger and Punk.

Sting is truly an icon and a living legend of wrestling and wearing Punk's symbols in his face paint sealed his legacy for all time. Punk coming out wearing the Surfer Sting paint and tights and Excalibur referencing the Blade Runners (which was the tag team consisting of Sting and Ultimate Warrior when they broke in to the business) shows just how wide ranging Sting's influence has been on the younger generations of wrestlers.
The 3 faces of Sting. The past, The Present, & The Future. What a great way to pay homage to the Icon Sting at the Greensboro Colliseum, a venue that arguably put Sting on the map back in the late 1980s on TBS Superstation.

This is not only one of the coolest entrance of 2021, but it's one of the coolest entrance ever. The CM Punk Surfer Sting look sealed the deal. You can tell each wrestler has tremendous amount of respect for each other.

Everyone in that ring gets and deserves a major pop, so this was just a bit extra to send everyone home happy. And with Punk donning Sting's surfer paint is just respect for one of the greats of all time. I wish there was backstage footage before and after the match.
