- Rian Ilett is a former Royal Marine commando who spent 15 years in the armed forces fighting in the Middle East. We talk about his tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, losing men on the battlefield and getting hit by an anti-tank missile.
Rian's story perfectly displays the courage and bravery of our armed forces and the effects war has on them for the rest of their lives.

What a positive inspiring person a credit to our country and your family
What an absolute legend this geezer is. War can’t keep him down ,cancer can’t keep him down he’s starting to sound more like an action hero the more he talks.
❤❤🙏🙏
A friend of mine and a true warrior. No Surrender Rian we are the people 🇬🇧
I love the straight talking Rian elevates through this interview. What a credit to the county this man is. Great interview Dodge. Big love, kindest regards, Richard U.K
Honestly, that is one of the most powerful, admirable and motivational life stories I’ve ever heard. What this man has been involved in and accomplished is remarkable. Immensely proud of Rian. Wish you all the best for the future pal.
Great episode Dodge! What an amazing guy, we don’t do enough for our people that serve our country. Wish him all the best ❤
Top man with all the right questions being asked - Bringing back recognition to our troops and giving them a platform 👏👏
Thanks Matt ✌🏼
I love the way you interview people, Dodge. You steer the conversation in such a way that allows your guest to tell their story with gentle guidance from you when clarification is needed. Another fascinating and inspiring podcast. Well done to you both ❤
Dodge…. Thankyou for this episode with Rian. What an amazing person!! I love his ‘Don’t give up’ mentally. I had a liver transplant due to Wilson’s disease and I wasn’t diagnosed until I had both feet in the box in the ground. Dr’s gave me a five year survival term after surgery and I said bugger that!! I’ve got an amazing wife who I want to spend more time with before I go. Here I am just gone 6 years and still battling on each day. It’s definitely not been easy but I’ll keep going for as long as it’s possible. Awesome medical team at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney Australia. Keep up with your awesome attitude Rian! Love it!
What a guy, I can honestly sit and listen to these podcasts for hours and hours, I love listening to their stories and painting a picture in my head, great questions dodge once again, it must be good therapy for these lads that might not talk about what has happened much but being on a platform to speak about what they’ve gone threw or the stuff they’ve had to do, big respect to every single one of them 👍🏽
Our Country Salute Servicemen As Rian llet. Hes A Professional Personality & Inspiring Actions. Thankyou for your Selfless Service 🫡
Great to listen to Rian and totally respect your aspect on life as my wife has had a brain tumour and we completely understand, she is fighting it as well. Never give up, fight on and anything is possible as we’ve found. Thanks Dodge and especially Rian you are an inspiration ❤
This was one of the best, top 3 that you’ve done. Great story teller as well. Natural, open and honest. Definitely part 2 mate.
OH MY GOD!!! What a man, story and life. His military history had me hanging on to each and every word to the point where I couldn't admire him any more then, the tumour took it to another planet. ❤❤

Great interview Dodge, thank you for asking the questions that help us listening build up more of an understanding to the environment in the stories. What kit they would wear, the type of terrain, what the compound would look like and how it’s set up etc. Thank you for also interviewing our military, I’m glad there is someone with an audience giving these men an opportunity to tell their story. Rian - thank you for your service, incredible.

Why do they say when you finish training and 'qualify' that you've "passed out" when to pass out means to lose consciousness?!🤔

My late Father served 30+ years from a boy soldier, serving in Irish Guards 23yrs, Honourable Artillery Coy and his final regiment being 21 SAS Artists Rifle’s - I recall my dad had a similar attitude when diagnosed to endex in 6wks (lung cancer late stages), my dad sister and I went into the room with all the Docs and nurses who blurted out all this medical jargon and with his regimental assertiveness, polite and deep strong thick Irish accent he simply raised his hand and said “listen! With all due respect I’ve no idea of a word you’re saying…….just tell me, ‘am I going to meet my maker or not?’……”yes, we’re sorry” they replied…..”thank you, that’s easier to understand, how long?”……”we think within 2 weeks and we need to relocate you to a hospice soon”…..dad then said “Ok, I’ll speak with my family liaison officer and we’ll arrange everything” (I’ve never known the upper echelons of the military to make things happen instantaneous.
My late father died in my arms within two weeks, he was cracking jokes, checking on his detachments safety (who’d just been deployed to theatre).
The regiment held a service in Afghanistan in time with the service we were having in the U.K., and even opened a bar and eatery in my dads name after it became successful that the got the MOD to recognise territorial special forces for their service and funding……a year after his funeral my sister and I (with my wife and brother in law) went to the grand opening of my dads bar and went on an almighty bender with C detachment colleagues of my dad and know how close they all are and their mindsets.
Sorry for the war and peace essay, I really enjoyed this man’s story and journey. He’s an inspiration in so many ways I cannot fault nor describe my admiration, honour and respect……what a man. God bless you and your family brother(s) 🙏🏻⚖️
All this chat of cancer, choggie popping etc and he is drinking liquid death! Mans invincible!
Wow what amazing man
Hey ...Here's a good one Les stroud from survivor man on Finding Bigfoot, that's real popular around the world these days?
His picture is next to the word hard in the dictionary.
Costing me a fortune in books this month Dodge 😂
Blokes like this are the reason we have freedom in the UK. Big respect to him.
You make me proud to be British wishing all the best for you and your family god bless you.
Dodge up to his usual tricks again uploading bangers😎 nice one dodge👊......consider doing a patreon mate you've got one of the best fan bases in the podcast space at the moment. Not telling you how to suck eggs, i just know itd be guaranteed good for the buisness🤑
Much appreciated and we’ll take a look into Patreon tonight.
Good man 👍🏼⚒️
@@DodgeWoodall nice 1 dodge, I think the best model is £3-£5 pm. Patreons get early release and a pod exclusive to them, or if thats too much work I guess some behind the scenes stuff although I think the extra pod is the main attraction. There's a scouse pod called 'have a word' that uses this model and they've amassed over 25k patreons in the last 3 years. Which as a businessman dodge I'm sure you can appreciate how lucrative that is. Sorry for rambling on mate just a gap in the market that can't be ignored. All the best dodge👍
Nice one 👍🏼👍🏼
Mad how he's able to sit on the chair like that, with bollocks that big.
Alright Twiggy when you gonna talk about your SRMC course mate 😂 Love Ya 🎉
Emotional
Top Bootneck respect.
Luv to ya family x
Fair fukin play
I hate war.......I love twiggy.
I get what you're saying, but being in war has made twiggy what he is. Don't you think ? He's Royal Marine commando/SFSG
You wouldn't be listening to him if it wasn't for war......its a fact of life whenever if you like it or not
Write a book Royal.........BZ.....best one yet from a Gravs eye view .,,,,,,wrote that half way through the pod cast..... Fk me you have....lol xxx
BZ Royal! Was on H9 with Paul W in PB Tangiers, hoofing lad and this certainly brought some memories back!🥲🙏🏼
Rian you never stopped getting trouble brother. Jim ex 1 para. 😂😂😂😂 Old Firm Day 😂😂😂😂
Imagine coming in from smoking weed on the swings and your mum's booked you a borstal in Mexico 😅 you have to have a certain kind of mettle to take the positives from that and build yourself a career like this. Leg-end
