  • This is a macro photography review of the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 ultra macro lens, my favourite and honestly the best macro lens I own. It's easy to get the hang of, but can take a little bit of time to master working at that 2x magnification. If you're really interested in taking your macro images to that next level, then lens is for you.
    Thanks for watching, cheers!

    Nice review. I have the z mount version of this lens on my Z6 and I am VERY happy with it. Cheers

    Excellent review of this amazing Macro lens, sir! I agree with your points, except if I may make the following observation on the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2x Ultra-Macro APO for the Nikon Z System...Yes, it is a fantastically sharp, well-built Manual-Focus Only 2:1 Macro lens. Using it with a Nikon Z7, though I cannot employ the Z7's "Focus Shift Shooting Mode" (that requires AF), I am able to obtain extremely sharp, detailed images across the frame via careful manual focus. The ONE disappointment with this lens is that the "focus throw" is VERY short, meaning that a VERY small rotation of the focus ring results in a large shift of the focus point! As a result, this makes critical focus on your desired focus point, a bit of an unnecessarily tedious, laborious process. That said, when you DO nail your focus point, this lens delivers sharpness and detail in spades!! Thanks again!

      Thanks! Interesting… could you not use a macro focusing rail in those situations instead?

    Hi, nice video very clearly explained at a good even pace, I have recently bought a Fujifilm 50r camera and have heard that I can adapt this lens for it, I think I will need a Nikon fit like yours but want to know if there is an adapter available ?

    • @Blinsaff

      Cheers, thanks for watching. I’m not a Fuji expert, but if you do a search for Metabones adapters, specifically Nikon F/G Lens to Fuji G-mount Adapter (for GFX mount), that might point you in the right direction. Just make sure the adapter fits your camera mount though. Have fun!

    Great review. This has given me the push to buy one. However, I've got the Nikon Z6II and saw there's also a Z mount version avail now. What would you recommend. The Z mount or the F mount with the FTZ (like you use it). The F mount makes it more versatile for any spare camera, but I'm afraid I would lose some perfection, compare to the Z-mount.

    • @Blinsaff
      @Blinsaff  3 роки тому

      Cheers, thanks for watching. Sometimes I wish I had got the Z mount version, just because using the FTZ adapter is kind of a pain as it adds a bit more bulk and weight to your setup. Since there’s no autofocus on the lens using the FTZ won’t really make a difference, but just the overall form factor and ‘streamline-ness’ would be better without it. Entirely up to you on which version to get, but keep in mind that the FTZ won’t affect your image quality at all.

      @@Blinsaff Thanks for your quick responds. I was also leaning towards the Z-mount.

      @@Blinsaff What I did not realized is that the Z-mounted lens is 30mm longer (Z-mount is 155cm / F-mount = 125mm) and the FTZ = 30,5mm. so size would not be the issue. However the set is 120g heavier with the FTZ. Knowing this I might just go for the F-mount and keep it versatile with other spare camera’s. My friend has a D850, he could then also try it. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the helpful review. I’m thinking of this lens for my Canon R5. With the manual aperture do you need to compose/focus with the lens wide open and then close down to the shooting aperture to take the image or does the brightness of the viewfinder adjust for different apertures?

    • @Blinsaff
      @Blinsaff  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching! I'm not sure about Canon cameras, but when using it on the Nikon Z6 I turn off live view on the EVF/screen. So this shows me a nice and bright scene, and making it easier to actually see what I'm shooting. I do have to expose using the exposure meter for photos or the histogram for video though when live view is turned off. I'd suggest doing it that way, so at least you can see what you're shooting, especially at f/11 and up

    Hi, I have Nikon D750 that is DSLR. Is usable on not stabilized camera without focus peaking, thanks?

    • @Blinsaff
      @Blinsaff  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! D750 would be perfect to use with this lens. The stabilisation and focus peaking is more of a convenience of using a mirrorless camera to be honest, but your D750 will still give you great results!
