historical background: Danilo Ilkovich Terpilo, commonly known as the Green Ataman (December 28, 1886 - October 1919), was one of the commanders of the Green Armies during the Russian Civil War. The Green Armies under Terpilo's leadership fought the German Occupation Army, the White Army, the Red Army, and the troops of the Ukrainian People's Republic.
He was a socialist revolutionary and supported Ukraine's independence from Soviet Russia. For a short time, he managed to occupy Kyiv.
In July 1919, his army consisted of 30,000 volunteers, mostly peasants and workers. The Green Army took part in the pogroms of the civil war.
He died on the way to his native village at the hands of the White Guards.
