That was great! During the pandemic I shot some short films in my apartment which has very small rooms (12-20 m2). I used a Softbox too but I wasn’t booming it from above but lighted from an 45 degree angle up on the subject. That resulted in a very strong spill on the mainly white walls which were then brighter than my subject. Thanks for sharing this method. I will definitely try it very soon. One thing I’m wondering though: Do you get some problems with too dark eyes when booming from above? More videos about lighting small rooms would be awesome!
Hi Moritz, thank you for your comment and question. Usually, I install the boomlight (tripod with a softbox) in front of the actor so that the diffused light illuminated the eyes. If the scene needs the actor to look down, I put a reflector panel on the bottom so that the eyes glow and have enough light. You can also use a small tube lamp, with diffused light for some scenes.
@@Filmmaker_SZ Sounds great! One could surely use a brighter carpet on the floor to get more reflection, too. But I also like the look that the dark floor in this video is giving the image. I'm looking forward for more content on your channel!
Hi! Thank you so much for your message! Soon I drop a new video "Step-by-step lighting tips for perfect light placement on location". I don't have any lighting classes online but I will create more videos for my UA-cam channel. I will be glad for any feedback!
