I LOVE this movie! Everything about it, what cleverness, what charm, and what wit. Oh, I appreciate this kind of humor so much. Truly, I am from this past too. :) Thank you, for sharing this wonderfully movie that made me smile and laugh on this cold November day. I didn't want it to end.
Roland Young was a real cinematic treasure, such a sweet guy. Watch "The Young In Heart" for another fine performance. And I never suspected Freddie Bartholomew as Rev. Wilbur, he was wonderful in "Captains Courageous" alongside Spencer Tracy. Thanks for another fine adventure in B&W PizzaFlix!
I recognized the actor who played Benny, and I seemed to remember him being a singer, but couldn't quite place him, so I looked him up. Yep...he was a Big Band singer back in those days.
This film though very enjoyable doesn't fully make it for me. Here's why. I think the director liked British comedy films, this is so much like them in so many ways, and Roland Young came from Britain. But no one can do a British comedy like the British. In the 40's and 50's they were absolutely wonderful at making them. This film directed by Edgar G. Ulmer who also directed 'The Black Cat' with Karloff and Lugosi It's available on UA-cam (Buy or Rent) A fantastic film. Roland Young stars in a film called 'The Man Who Worked Miracles' One of the most fantastic movies I've ever seen. Free on UA-cam. Nina Foch is excellent. In a scene where she has had a bit too much to drink, she plays it to perfection. In a fight scene she is great, and such a surprise from her normal ladylike demeanor. In a love sene, by that I mean kissing, she technically doesn't know what Betty Davis knew. In a close up you never look at both eyes of your lover, for you go crosseyed. You must focus on one eye only to prevent this. Watch closely and you'll see Nina go crosseyed. Lionel Stander, I always like. Dick Haymes sings. It's the best part of his performance, except for his fight scene with Miss Foch. They do a knock out job, it's a pun son, but in that scene they are electric together. You know what. I liked this even better than I thought. Freddie Bartholomew, as an adult, plays a great comic part, very close to a British comedy film. Enjoy.
I have a simple policy- if the opening credits last more than a minute- I won't watch. They belong at the end. I find that all good movies limit the intro.
Couldn't stand it after the minute 15:00. This script look like if it was written by the current head of the Catholic church whom I call "Frankie", the fake Pope. What a piece of work!
This film is an absolute gem! I have never seen it nor heard of it before! Thank you so much PizzaFlix for the post.
The last scene is epic. As good as it gets. May your finale be so grand.
we are no longer capable of making a movie like this
They cant

I don't recognize him (Freddie) in this movie. He looked old in here. It's his last appearance in movie😢
Please see Roland Young in 'Madam Satan' 1930 if you can find it.
@@janealexander1378 Also "The Man Who Could Work Miracles" is fantastic (great 1930's special effects!).
@@janealexander1378 Wow - that was one wild & crazy movie! Talk about special FX too! Thanks!

Oh yeah, forgot about that one! Was trying to remember what I knew Mr Young from, that was it. Excellent fantasy movie.
So much delightfully shrewd truth which can power truth in anyone.

Lovely
Freddy Bartholomew's last time acting ,before he retired , this was his last drama
Lovely Nina Foch.
At 53 mins he walks off and leaves her while its late and dark.Hardly a gent.
1:01:00. I could join that choir because I sing like that.
Geesh, the weird titles in the old days. Juno and the paycock is another.
How old was Freddie Bartholomew when he retired from Show Bizz
Kathy Cooper He was 27, he said he found it difficult to switch from child roles to adult roles thats why he stepped over to producing and directing
"It's like an institution without a soul. They forgot to plant trees."
This movie is routing for the bad guys.
What would Nina Foch see in him?

So many great movies were made before you made up your rules. What a shame if you miss out.
Too glitchey starting at 37 minutes
Didn’t the fake actor de Niro remake this movie
You’re thinking of “We’re No Angels” (1989) with De Niro and Sean Penn-similar but not the same story. 🍕🍕🍕
