- I'm making a beat from scratch using noise engineering's basimilus iterates alter, mutable instruments' plaits and my beloved synthstrom deluge. the parts on the modular are mainly in the first half of the video. For the deluge parts skip ahead to around 14:20
You talk about the Bisimilus with such affection. Obviously, there are very much more sophisticated modules available these days but it fascinates me how much enthusiasm there is among musicians who do not remember the frustrations and inconvenience of early synthesisers and control of the same. By coming up with something radical and hard edged such as you did, whether by accident or by design or a combination of both, I can see why this madness appeals. It is very easy, particularly with slick onboard effects, to make everything sound safe and conservative. Whether one is looking for something distinctively original or not, this presents an important lesson to creatives about allowing wilder forms of experimentation and accident. BTW I really liked the angry duck.
I really enjoyed the sound design process for the pad but for me it was a superfluous component.
Yes , I agree. I feel like for any creative process it's most important that no one feels like they have to do things a certain way. The best piece of advice I try to give myself regularly: just do whatever works for you... (the only slight caveat being that I also have to accept that people might not like what I come up with)
I liked the duck too, just felt like it wasn't its time to shine:)
@@easytiger1452 Having known many artists in different fields, I find it is most common that creators are not the best judges of their own work. We often have a favourite idea or theme which, in spite of our own enthusiasm, fails to trigger expected responses and other things which we might see as lesser work makes a bigger impact. It is bewildering though when so many artists abandon their aspirations for something that the customer wants but everyone has to pay their rent🙄
