In the previous video I finished cutting the mortise and tenons for what will be 6 joints on this huge oak A-frame. All that was left was to lift them up and install them in situ. As per usual we did this the cheap and time inefficient method..... by hand. I'm sure you can imagine how stressful it is to cut a joint on the ground, not knowing if you have your dimensions right. One f up will potentially cost the price of a new beam. Let me know if you think we did a good job - and if you do....SUBSCRIBE!!!

For me, the ideas in ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

Carl, great vid been looking all over the net for someone doing a traditional roof and this pops up.if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost? I have a place in France and my pig sheds need a new roof just like this one. Don't mead the the price of the concrete just the wood element of the roof beams, rafters etc. Thanks.

Hey warren, good to meet you - I'm glad the youtube algorithm worked! Let me get back to you about the cost, i'll need to work it out first... Have you got a good wood mill you can buy from/trailer to transport?

carlrogers yes there is a place called rulierre or something like that in chef boutonne which is 10 mins away. I've had beams and oak from them before and they will cut and plain to size. It's just that I've been quoted about 20k and the roof is about the same size as what you have built there. Mine is basically the same as yours but a lean to. Thanks for getting back, I honestly thought I was not going to get a reply. I notice someone else was asking about compacted mud. My barn is like that 500mm thick faced off both sides with decent stone, the middle just packed with mud and rubble, I was told as long as the roof is good they are fine, if the roof has gone the rain washes the mud out and they start to fall down. Mine is now lime mortar pointed up.

you certainly can have them a bit smaller.. if the price matters to you at all. and not from oak, but pine.. maybe oak is so cheep there i don't know.... it's a fantastic work they do for sure. i like myself doing things the solid way... but there will be some ceramic slates, minus the tons of snow which i have in my place.
wood getting expensive here too, but france i guess much more so, for the big beams you can take 100 to 200 mm. not sure what he has there , looks like 150 to 300 or so.. of oak omg! these could be a lot of nice things... you can also use for these part whole round tree beams, which is most solid, and looks nice too..
the upper part i would do from 100 to 150mm.
