Along with I Write Sins Not Tragedies, Headstrong, Ohio is for Lovers, and a lot of other songs with the same genre lol. But I ended up forgetting this song completely. Anyways, I found this song like a month ago in a compilation of the best 90's-00's rock/emo songs I saw on FB and I recognized it instantly (I even started lip-syncing the words when I was almost certain I didn't know the song). And I started listening to the song a lot and totally remembered all of it from my childhood. It was such a beautiful thing. And that is how I got reunited with this amazing gem of a song! This song's existence is so baffling. It sounds like some kind of awesome punk/emo off-metal love song, but it constantly seems to talk about God and paradise. And then you have "Miss Murder," whom is never identified, only addressed... Idk, maybe other people get it more. I love it to listen to and jam out, I just don't understand the lyrics.
I know what you mean. Bought the album after I heard this song. No other song on the album sounds like this. I like some of the other songs but it is mostly pop-metalish.
I think the lyrics are about a celebrity who killed himself ("With just a look they shook /And heavens bowed before him" followed by "The stars that pierced the sky / He left them all behind") and the singer, who is also an artist, wondering if suicide is the actual best way to ensure your legacy - "Can I make beauty stay if I take my life?" So, like, can I cement myself as an icon and keep my art in people's minds forever by killing myself at the height of my fame? Miss Murder is a personification of death, and presumably she's portrayed as a beautiful woman because the singer finds the idea of suicide alluring. I don't think it's specifically about Kurt Cobain, but I think it addresses something that Cobain wrote in his final note: "Better to burn out than fade away." When you are famous or want to be famous, you might prefer the idea of dying in a blaze of glory rather than aging out of your good looks, fading out of relevance and dying in a normal way like everyone else.

I remembered listening to this back in the day when my older brother was like the most punk rock kid I ever saw. And I remember this was one of the songs he blasted on the daily. Along with I Write Sins Not Tragedies, Headstrong, Ohio is for Lovers, and a lot of other songs with the same genre lol. But I ended up forgetting this song completely. Anyways, I found this song like a month ago in a compilation of the best 90's-00's rock/emo songs I saw on FB and I recognized it instantly (I even started lip-syncing the words when I was almost certain I didn't know the song). And I started listening to the song a lot and totally remembered all of it from my childhood. It was such a beautiful thing. And that is how I got reunited with this amazing gem of a song! This song's existence is so baffling. It sounds like some kind of awesome punk/emo off-metal love song, but it constantly seems to talk about God and paradise. And then you have "Miss Murder," whom is never identified, only addressed...

I know what you mean. Bought the album after I heard this song. No other song on the album sounds like this. I like some of the other songs but it is mostly pop-metalish.
The song makes reference to lucifer not god, the stars and beauty are attributes of lucifer(morning star)
I think the lyrics are about a celebrity who killed himself ("With just a look they shook /And heavens bowed before him" followed by "The stars that pierced the sky / He left them all behind") and the singer, who is also an artist, wondering if suicide is the actual best way to ensure your legacy - "Can I make beauty stay if I take my life?" So, like, can I cement myself as an icon and keep my art in people's minds forever by killing myself at the height of my fame? Miss Murder is a personification of death, and presumably she's portrayed as a beautiful woman because the singer finds the idea of suicide alluring.
I don't think it's specifically about Kurt Cobain, but I think it addresses something that Cobain wrote in his final note: "Better to burn out than fade away." When you are famous or want to be famous, you might prefer the idea of dying in a blaze of glory rather than aging out of your good looks, fading out of relevance and dying in a normal way like everyone else.
