I'm very sorry that happened to you. I must say after happening once, you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than it happening to you a 2nd time in your life. Btw i just checked and this guy did get life sentences on each of the 5 kidnapping charges and I agree it should be that way in all states and most instances.

I still have nightmares where I wake up in terror that this person is in our bedroom with his gun in my face telling me he's going to kill me. The medications don't seem to work. Edit: I was just put on a new medication called Procisin (sp?) and it really does seem to be working. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about it.

They ask vague questions to get a baseline. Once they establish the baseline, they will re-ask the same question again later. The thought process is that you will probably remember where you bought a gun. However, if you make that up as you go, you may lose track of that information as you spin the lie. The interrogation drags until the detectives can latch onto something. This is not an interview as much as an interrogation. The interrogation is when the investigator lays out the facts, proof-able, DNA, sequence of events, etc. most likely the detectives story about ‘his friend doing 75 years’ is made up bs to engender a connection with the suspect.
"We do not need to know if you did it, we know you did it. We just want to know why you did it. I do not think that you are a monster. You just made a mistake. You're not a monster, are you? What do you want us to tell the family?" It seems that all interrogators read from the same script. Well, I suppose that if it is not broken, do not fix it.
@AmyAquarius23 it seems to be effective... except for the ones, of course, who immediately demands a lawyer. It seems that just about every one of those suspects think that he or she will have strong enough alibis, but at the end of the interrogations, the suspects are weeping with faces cradled in hands, while the detectives "lovingly" massage the suspects backs while sending soothing words of "I promise you, that you will feel better", "I knew that this was eating at you", or "[y]ou are doing the right thing."
