Good day out. It was nice not to hear someone complaining about the by-catch. I mean seriously, if you're just releasing everything and not running a charter: Why would you ever complain about catching something that you think may be a "giant xyz" only to disregard as trash after you see what it is? Even though most people take themselves a little too seriously, it is still ok to have fun fishing. Nice job switching it up when the opportunity presented itself. You're doing it right, tight lines.
If there's one complaint of that completely awesome boat ya got is that the bait well isn't designed to dump fish into it right from the cast net. They should have made the leaning post capable of folding forward or, use a round bait well similar to the ones on the Sea Borns. Love your videos and glad I found ya.
so you were bottom with literally a 2/0 and a cut mullet, no type of lead weight? was it a toss it and leave it, or slow retrieve when using this method? thanks! it was an enjoyable video
If there's current or wind, then I'll throw on a split shot to keep it on the bottom. If not, then I just free-line the bait. And it's a toss it and leave it method. It takes some patience sometimes, but it works very well
Wow amazing video man wish i can catch some nice redfish i miss catching them so fun and good fighting as well and i have a question I’m new to using the cast net and i wanna know what is a good time to catch finger mullet? I live in tampa, fl and i go fishing around causeway or safety Harbor and sometime Gandy Too?
Spring and Fall are the best time to get specifically finger mullet. Right now there's a lot of them. You'll find them shallow around mangroves and canals
You ever had an osprey dive bomb the trout that you're feeling in and grab a hold of said trout then take it 20ft in the air then yank back REAL HARD causing the osprey to do a "WTF!" and let go? I did. Northside of Indian Key by the shrimp boat entrance winter of 2010.
If you don't have much experience throwing a cast net, I'd recommend starting off with a smaller one like a 6 footer. I use Black Pearl cast nets and love them
That is my backyard know all the spots you fish at...I do not have a boat but I paddle board fish/catch. Caught some monster reds on those spoils spoils. I won’t say location but shear cut I will say so you don’t think I’m full of it
How do you catch redfish? Should I fish in tidal creeks or a wide saltwater river? Also, should I use cut mullet or gulp rubber swimming mullet? Thanks, I just subscribed
Yes. To everything you asked. They can be way back in creeks or on the beach or anywhere between. But typically they're in around 18" - 3' of water on flats and around oyster bars or mangroves or under docks. Basically they follow the bait.
My favorite part of this whole video is at 6:43 when the cormorant dives down after my "fish" and then comes face to face with the shark and freaks out
That happens sometimes, especially when fishing cut bait in deeper water. The best advice I can say is to make sure you're fishing in an area where you know the redfish are already. Target oyster bars, mangrove shorelines, or areas with lots of bait like mullet
the part when the goofy ass bird came up and you just said.. "whut" had me rollin.
And you don't seem to use any fancy rig..just a bullet and a hook lol I love it
The sideways fishing rod holder on top kept giving me anxiety. I thought you would lose your rod when you get a big fish.
And when he had his pole sitting in the back before he lost the 1.

cut mullet are such a great bait... especially fresh!
Even frozen works
The bird passing by.. 😂😂😂
Solid Redfish, and good day. But..... let's put it into prospective. Josh's trout was almost bigger 😉
That may be true, but that red makes your best trout look like bait 🤷🏻♂️
You had a better day then me yesterday, I only had one run off using finger mullet. How was the tide, it was ripping in the Green Key area.
Awesome day on the water congrats 👍👍👍👍👍👍

What cast net would you recommend? Something I could throw from the kayak or wading for the flats. Want to switch it up from just artificial.

Nice fish! But I never understood why people throw back keepers?
Bonnethead shark is good to eat and would be excellent in ceviche.
omg im laughing so many mullet lol
What type of line do you use? 20lbs mono?
I use 15lb and 20lb braid with 25lb leader
@@SeeYaDude is the leader braid too?
Nope, I use fluorocarbon leader the majority of the time
Hey man where did you buy your bait net
My cast net is a Black Pearl cast net and I got it from their website www.blackpearlcastnets.com

Whenever I use cut bait and let it sit on the bottom I get a bunch of catfish any tips on how to not catch catfish and catch some redfish?

Can you take me out one day I’ll pay lol
Come on man! You have a UA-cam channel and you can't pancake a 10ft 3/8 bait net? Shame shame..
