  • In this video, Josh coaches Mentorship student Robyn Szybunka on how to best introduce a horse to the use of different forms of pressure, starting with being approached, being touched, being asked to move, and being haltered. Josh's goal is to create a positive first experience for the horse that will shape all future learning. The approach seen here, however, can also be used to re-define pressure and build a better relationship with any horse, regardless of age or level of training.
This video is part of a full-length webinar about introducing the leg aid to the horse. That webinar and many more are archived for online students at JoshNichol.com.
Note: The palomino filly shown here had never been touched prior to being brought to this three day clinic.

Yes, fantastic content... Josh’s videos are transformative, and have been very helpful for me as well. I’ve come to this place in horsemanship where I just started shutting down myself... it didn’t feel good. I was learning from trainers who were forceful and dominating. I’ve quit working with horses for years at a time , putting time and energy into equine sculpture to fill that void, but I missed horses so much, I love them. I love that trainers like Josh are doing what they do, it really does change things. I am working with a palomino gelding right now who has been too much for his owner to handle...spooky pushy, clingy, impossible to handle. Using the techniques in this video and many others I have now watched, has given this horse a second chance.I was able to connect with him Almost immediately earning trust, and establishing good connection . This feels amazing... and the relationship that we are working on now, is what I had been missing deeply. Thank you so much for these videos! I will definitely keep watching.

This means so much to me! I am so happy that something I have presented has brought back the love you once had working with horses! I wish you all the success in the world with your horsemanship!

There truly is no one like Josh Nichol. I have used his Relational Horsemanship approach to create incredibly deep bonds with two sensitive, potentially very difficult horses. Now, when I watch other trainers, it usually just makes me sad. When I watch Josh, I am filled with joy for the horse. I wish all horse people could learn this approach!

Thank you so much for this! My heart is so pulled understand and see the truth of how a horse desires to be, how we desire to be and put those two together in the most beautiful way. This is quite the process to walk in but so fullfilling!
