In an interview with Dr. John Coleman we discussed wonder and the powerful tool it is to create space for new possibilities. “What if” you could ?, how would it feel? “I wonder what that would be like? Asking yourself “what if” and/or “I wonder” opens you back up to the possibility of your future and gives you a new path to the life you desire. Do not forget that a big part of a horse’s impact ...

Clarifying Your Own Space To Help A Dull Horse
Переглядів 4,7 тис.2 роки тому
With a dull or pushy horse it's important to uncover what the need is behind their behaviour and meet that need. These types of horses need to feel us and sense our energy and presence outside of ourselves in order to feel at peace in their world. When we can build presence and clarity in our interactions, the positive aspects of the space horse are revealed. This video is a companion to our vi...

I have one, and hes mother is the total opposite😅
That's the cool part, they are all different and need to be understand as an individual to really connect with!
That is what i love about my/our life with horses, so many disciplines to have a go at, new friends to make. Me @ 58 now, [48yrs horsing] have grown through Pony Club, English showing, dressage, show jumping, eventing, ... currently back English showing then last stop on the list is Western Pleasure riding! 😃👌 Awesome podcast, Ngā mihi from 💚Aotearoa NZ
Isn't that the truth, thanks for sharing!
❤ Thank you for all you share Josh. I think , so far, the sharing of the difference of lightness vs softness. Thank you so much for that clarity. 🎉 Happy Blessed New Year to you and your family.
You are very welcome!
❤great conversation, thank you both.

What is your recommendation for the average horse - a single jointed loose ring snaffle? Or please advise ... I had always been told 'as above BUT with double joint, for example a French link' ... due to single joint causing 'nut cracker' action[?] From Aotearoa NZ
Thanks for your question! In my opinion, the only way a single joined snaffle becomes a nut cracker is if you pull on both reins! A single joined snaffle is to be used more with one hand then two and allows for a little more room for error laterally in a horses mouth. A french link is when you begin to pick up both reins, which allows it to flow through the mouth a little more. Every bit can be used poorly but should not be judged by its poor use or poor handling! Always look to someone that knows how to use a piece of equipment to get the best information about the things to do and not do! Then use it appropriately! Great question!
❤
This was a cool experience!
Wow, can't believe I watched this year ago for the first time. ❤
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Well explained !
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing this video! This has to be the best video on separation anxiety on UA-cam. Such a gentle and effective approach! I tried this with my horse today in the stable, and I was blown away by how well it worked. How would you use this approach outside of an enclosed space? For example, if the only way to take a horse with separation anxiety away from his friends is to walk down a path?
I'm so glad to hear this feedback! The more challenging the environment you are looking for a change in the better you have to have things in smaller spaces. Once you get things working, you can build up to more challenging situations!
I just found this podcast and I am so excited to hear someone actually talk about bits in direct correlation to the horse’s anatomy, rather than to a specific discipline. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation of bit function, step by step from touching the rein to releasing it, and for demonstrating how relevant this is to bitless headstalls too! This is priceless knowledge.
So glad you enjoyed it! I'll let Daniel know for sure!
I have Finnhorses that as a farm horse breed tend to keep their negative thoughts inside, only showing them when you've gone over their threshold. Your description of "I want you to speak up now, not later" really made into words what I've been feeling here. After all, it takes a lot of trust to be able to voice your concerns, especially if the other party holds all the cards.
Exactly, so important for all species!
I have a fat simple snaffle and it is set with no wrinkles, a year or so ago I tried lowering one hole more, and my guy would not stop throwing the bit around in his face, so I adjusted it back, now I wonder if I should lower it and wait for him to learn to carry it on his tongue?
I think if you have found a place your horse is comfortable and there are no wrinkles you're on track!
Great job Taylor!
She was such a great help!
this was very helpful! thank you!
You're so welcome!
I love your thoroughly intuitive approach to horsemanship!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks so much.. Inspiring conversation, and human!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks to Lee and Josh! A great conversation.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Was that a bend from the pole, or from the neck?
The primary purpose is the pole but there are always moments when the neck will be involved. Every horse will bend the neck as they need but we should be doing our best to isolate how the rotation affects the hind end!
@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit I get that the neck sometimes bends- but the true bend is at the pole...rather the Flexion comes from the pole. I feel people get confused when seeing a bend as something we should teach the horse, rather than flexing the pole
Horses experience Sensations Images Feelings Thoughts, right? Horses are curious and play. Is ‘wonder’ part of the experience we share with horses?
Entirely!
That was great!
Glad you liked it!
Where is this? It´s a beautiful area 😍 landscape
It's in the Yukon!
@@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit Thank You
Absolutely brilliant! Love this conversation for so many reasons!
That is so great to hear! Thank you for your feedback!
Thank you Josh and Lee, what a wonderful session.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Picking a horse out of a line up ... Kijiji! Then that horse decides she wants to have a jumping career. I was not her person but I loved her. She is now in a jumping home. My lesson was to learn to let go. I can't be all things for all horses. Surprise! I love you two!
Helping a horse find a home they can excel in is also love! Well done!
Thank you Lee & Josh
You are very welcome!
So awesome!! ♥
Glad you enjoyed it!

Absolutely WONDERFUL THANKS John and Josh!

This video has helped me so much. i have watched it so many times and continue too. Shows me the "dance" to unlock any tension and soften to pressure. Watching you go thru the whole session helps me put together everything on your subscription site. Thank you.
You're so welcome!
PRESSURE MOTIVATES… RELEASE TEACHES…. REST INGRAINS
Right on!
A horse knows how to hold his head to balance. He doesn't need a human to show him.
Absolutely, the challenge with riding is that their are many elements that influence a horse as they find themselves with a rider on their back. We touch the reins, shift our seat, create tension, etc and as we consider that their is a positive head height and a negative height and both are influenced by the way we ride, we will consider it more in what we do.
Interesting
An important conversation!
Stunning mare! She reminds me so much of Rose. I'd be very interested to see a progress update of this mare with her human.
Great question! I'm going to check in on them!
Thank you for explaining the benefit of the cavesson in such a clear way! We get criticized all the time for putting our horses’ halters on upside down 🤦🏻♀️😅
I'm sure that would look odd to some people! You're welcome!
@@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit We don't actually put the halters on upside down; our horses have rope cavessons that look like rope halters, except more fitted than a halter and with the loop on their nose instead of under their chin. They work great! But, people see the rope halter base and automatically assume we've just put the halters on upside down. It's pretty funny.
great video
Thanks!
so many people are not operating from a energy place and thats how horses operate through feel
Unfortunately its not a space we talk about much and leaves people without much information to work with!
