Open filters are good with an actual cold air intake. Unfortunately most people do not have a real cold air. To be effective the intake should be ran out of the engine capartment. Usually near the bottom of the front bumper. The filter is also placed here. This gives fresh cold air. The fact is you would never see the filter in the engine capartment in a true cold air intake.

You are correct on the fact that an intake would pick up debris, but im talking for racing purposes. They would not be used for a daily driver vehicle. Im not talking about the big box auto store stuff that most kids put on their imports.
ReALliFe4nOw companies spend millions in testing to give you the best for tune, which is greatly based on emissions, hp, and economy. Do more research on your cold airs as they actually hurt you hp and economy in 99.9% of scenarios. This is why you see only one headlight on track cars. You need the air not only being forced in but also headers to cat exhaust upgrade, the cold air, and a tune to compensate for the changes in air to fuel. This is at minimum to see a hp difference.
@lasthumain It actually adds a lot of response and increases airflow whether you have the stock airbox or an open element filter. Flow bench tests showed 120% increase over the stock pipe so there are gains to be had whichever setup you have. Plus it sounds a lot better :)
@ 4:26, would it not be easier to pre-attach the pipe to the coupler and tighten the T-bolt clamp down so the only one you'd have to fool with is the clamp that tightens the coupler to the turbo inlet? I think that's what I did on my 98 when I made an intake pipe for it. I don't recall that area working around the turbo being NEARLY as cramped as it is on my 99 either.

ok so ive installed an aftermarket hks bov and after reving it up enough for the bov to release pressure the car stall whil returning to idle if i rev it up half way it tries to stall almost like the car shuts off for a second any tips or help would be appreciated
which engine do you have? I have a 00 s80 t6 which has a factory blow off valve, but it also recirculates. I guess depending on which engine you have, and if it came with the factory bung type b.o.v or the bypass valve on the turbo itself.

@lasthumain ...as well, remember, it's a "boy racer" mindset that makes people believe you have to have ridiculous open element systems in cars. Yeah, all the kids and magazines have the open air element. But the REALITY is ---> COLD (dense) OUTSIDE air is much better than HOT (thin) UNDERHOOD air. The advantage is often negligible. Cold air has more oxygen molecules per breath than hot underhood air. Kids do open elements because it gives them street cred. Makes them look like real racers.
If you're already forced to replace your part because it cracked after 20 years, then why spend $165 on an oem part that'll break again when you can spend an additional $50 to ensure this part is more durable and will not crack?
lol.. you just replaced air hose with air hose xD what a waste of money.... you could just unplug the air cabinet on the original hose and clamp the open air filter instead. no need for all those shenanigans
Incorrect. Having installed one on my B5234T, your offered "solution" is rubbish- your moronic thinking would pull hot underhood air directly into the stock, high-restriction turbo air pipe. This SNABB pipe moves far more air (SNABB claims 120% greater airflow, and I can believe that). The turbo spools up quicker and throttle response is improved. The kit is not inexpensive, the the components are top qiality.
@@BobSmith-ur6uw The amount of air you suck in depends mostly on your turbo. ALL of the hoses are very smooth on the inside and air is not a fluid that "sticks" better or worse on some surfaces. You can put a normal hose or some "diamond" hose it wouldnt matter a tiny bit. The only thing that a better hose can do is provide you with better hose insulation so that your air that is passing through does not heat up too much too fast which would reduce performance. You made 0 points, you were just writing fancy names like all those "special quality stickers" people who talk about something which they have no clue about.

I don't understand what the heavy-duty clamps are for on a non pressurized piping.

+Gus Ruiz T stands for Turbo. 5 for the five cylinders it has.
