  • Don’t upgrade your Pixel 7 Pro straight away. You might be better off holding onto it. Let’s talk about that in our Google Pixel 7 Pro review 1 year later.

    It's funny how people seriously consider throwing away a year-old phone but praise Google for its 7-year update support.

    Prior to owning the Pixel 6 Pro, the 2 phones I had before that, I ran with for ~3 years each. The Pixel 6 Pro was problematic for me, so I purchased the Pixel 7 Pro a bit after it became available. The 7 Pro has been a solid phone for me.

    Coming from a Galaxy S10, I'm extremely happy with my P7P. I don't see a need to switch until the 9 or 10. I did that with Samsung too, ie i went from S3 to S5 to S7 to S10, before switching to Pixel.

      Honestly, I feel the same way - I came to the 7 Pro from an iPhone 11 Pro and I will admit there were some hiccups in the first months. Now though the experience is actually really good. Obviously not as fast as an Apple A-whatever-they're-on-now-Bionic but in real life when you're not running benchmarks it's smooth/fast enough to where you don't care. Unless Apple does something dramatic/interesting to win me back from here on to the next 5 or so years I'm sticking with the Pixels (also a guy who likes to keep his phone for years at a time)

    I had a bunch of bugs with the Pixel 7 Pro. It got ironed out now with Android 14 but I can't get over the fact that Google offers a low ball trade in for their own phone. Horrible resale value.

      @carlos53k 7 місяців тому +1

      Very true. I will give the Pixel 8 Pro a shot, 2nd hand for 1/4 of the price in a few months. But no way am I ever paying full price for a Pixel phone. Specially when Google itself won't give you a good trade in value for their own phone.

    • @RobertWilke
      @RobertWilke 7 місяців тому +1

      This is the thing. When I got my Pixel 7, I nearly didn't do it. I was coming from a 3xl. Pretty much in prestine condition. Before the preorder at best I could get 150.00 for it. Then when the preorder opened up they bumped it to just under 300.00. with that I was willing. This go round Google kept being stingy. So I looked and laughed at the ridiculously poor trade in and said nope I'm good for now. Google you can't be considered a flagship device maker and not offer better trade in on your own products.

However, most of the issues I have are 100% fixable and with google being so focused on software, I trust that they eill be fixed. I dont see myself upgrading my device for another few gears.

    7 Pro owner here. Was still happy with it overall. After it sustained damage, Google replaced my Pixel 7 Pro. Took advantage of the situation and sold it, as i could ask more than others as it was new. Going to upgrade to the 8 Pro with discount from my carrier and it will only cost me €150 at the end of the 2 years. I wish I could upgrades to the new gen for 150 every year
    (Yes I know I did spend 300 to get Google to replace the device, otherwise I was left with nothing)

    Just got one refurbished straight from Google tester for about $250. Last Pixel was a 6a that I got rid of in favor for an iPhone 13 Pro. I'm hoping it's good, since for that price, you can't really do any better. The $900 Google still asks for it now is way too overboard.

    For me the pixel 7 pro has been a fantastic phone for me. The only difference I've seen between the 7pro and 8pro is the display, and better cameras(which the Pixel 7 pros cameras are no slouch) the 8pro does feel a little better in the hands but it's not quite enough to upgrade at least for me

    I upgraded to the pixel 7 pro last year, mine and my wife's. Mine has had no issues, my wife's stared flashing green lines on the screen, I returned it, the second one did the same thing, had to return it. I was very dissatisfied, but this was my first bad experience with a pixel phone, after having the first pixel then the pixel 3. If it wasn't for the batteries dying after about four years we'd still be using the pixel 3. Google needs better quality control.

  • @oscar_dl
    @oscar_dl 7 місяців тому +10

    I respect your standpoint but I'll respectfully disagree.
    The 7 Pro was way more of an iterative upgrade than the 8 Pro. Tensor G2 was basically G1 with a slightly better modem. The screen was the same power-hungry, low-end LTPO as the 6 Pro as well. Only the ultrawide camera was improved.
    I love the Pixel software so much but was so annoyed by the 7 Pro's battery, thermals and optimization that I got the 8 Pro immediately when I saw the positive reviews, and man does this phone fly. It never gets hot for me anymore, the battery is better, the flat screen is a joy, Tensor G3 actually behaves well, the screen is way brighter and less power-hungry, the cameras are amazing, and the phone feels much faster.
    If you have the money, it's 100% worth it to upgrade. I'm usually not a person to recommend a 1-year upgrade because I'm planning to keep this 8 Pro for at least 3 years now, but the 7 Pro was not a great flagship, just a good one.

      Fair enough but I can say my overall experience was drastically different from yours. Bought a Pixel 8 Pro on Amazon and what it turned out to me is: same user experience, same heating issues (despite it got better on the 7 Pro with Android 14), same camera picture quality, slightly improved video quality, same battery life, same gaming performance, same fingerprint sensor reactivity, same supbar SoC in raw performance compared to Qualcomm.
      Literally the same damn phone with minor improvements.
      Screen does look brighter but not a reason to spend that amount of money when you already have an identical phone, also I don't care about the 7 years support since I usually upgrade my phone every two years, and the 7 Pro by the way is still getting 5 years of feature drops and patches.
      I returned the 8 Pro, got my money back and picked up my 7 Pro again, gonna be spending those money next year, maybe.

    At the beginning of 2022, I started using my Pixel 6 Pro after a long wait time due to the chip shortage. I really loved that phone, and I took it with me to Vietnam and Singapore later that year, when travel restrictions were eased.
    However, in May 2023, I dropped my Pixel 6 Pro while travelling in Japan. I contacted Google support about it, and they gave me two options: repair it at an authorized repair shop (which thankfully, there was one near the Airbnb I stayed in), or get a Pixel 7 Pro for 20% off.
    After going to the repair shop near the Airbnb and the train station, I found out that despite the weak yen, it would still cost the same to repair the phone stateside as it would in Japan (around $300). So I chose to get a Pixel 7 Pro for 20% off (for the 512 GB model, I spent under $1000).
