The PPM listed on Octomore bottles is measured before the barley is processed and distilled, not at the new make stage. Torabhaig are the only Scotch Whisky distillery I can think of that measure and publish the PPM post distillation (though there may well be others). Absolutely true that the PPM would be different when the spirit goes in and out of the cask though, since phenols break down during maturation.

Yep, the PPM figures quoted for Octomore are a bit misleading! It's not "three times as peaty as Lagavulin" or whatever the maths works out at.
