Al Ettifaq head coach Steven Gerrard has signed a new contract extension until 2027 despite a winless run dating back to October.
Gerrard's new deal was announced within an hour of Jordan Henderson's exit from Al Ettifaq being confirmed as the England international joined Ajax on a free transfer after his contract was mutually terminated just six months after signing for the Saudi Pro League side.

Gerrard was probably 10 years early in his career to earn 350-400k a week. Now he's following the money, just like 90% of players do. Ironically he's actually reeping what he'd sewn as a player- right now. The Saudis could give 2 shits about his managerial ability, it's the name Steven Gerrard that he's being paid for and growing their brand. 15 mil a year in Saudi, or a couple of Mil a year in the championship? It's not even a decision.

These ex-players from the so-called "Golden Generation" I think have a degree of hubris and entitlement. After being told for years that they were so "golden" it may have led to an arrogance in that they believe they can just collect a few coaching badges, then show up at any club and get instant success as a football coach/manager. Devoid of any meaningful experience and thoroughly lacking in appropriate communication and interpersonal skills.
In fairness, if he was playing today, he'd be earning more in a season than he earned in his whole career. Wages then were good, but only about 12 x the average man's weekly wage.. Now, a footballer can earn 500 x the average weekly wage, plus shed loads in other sponsorships and endorsements. I don't blame him for going after the money, every player is doing it. You don't honestly think Ronaldo and the likes would be there for 5k a week, do you? 😂😂
