At the start of the film, the sisters wear distinctly-colored dresses to represent that they all have unique personalities. Red-dressed Blair rides horses, Dark blue-dressed Courtney reads books, green-dressed Delia and orange-dressed Edeline play sports, etc. But when Rowena forces them all to wear the same bland grey dress, it shows how little she cares about getting to know any of them. They're all one unit to her; one road block that stops her from seizing the throne. This is further shown by Rowena refusing to learn any of their names aside from Genevieve's, since she quickly assumes the role of the outspoken "rebel" princess. So when the magic diamond flowers dress the girls up in all of their former attire, it represents how vital the pavilion becomes in allowing the princesses to be their true selves, free of any judgment or outside criticism. Mariposa The villain wanted the Queen to die and even destroyed the antidote. She was gonna let the Skeezites eat everybody in the movie.
in the original tale (which is a common German fairytale I grew up with), the mom was supposed to marry a dark even king who had 12 sons, but since she ran away and married a different prince, the elf dude cursed her to have 12 daughters, one for each son, and danced the mom to death once they were all born. then, once each daughter was old enough to walk on their own, they were forced into the other realm to dance all night with their prince. they end up getting saved by the 4th eldest (Barbie on this version) and the prince who liked her as the basically slaughtered the even princes and their father. there's more that goes into it, little detail like their feet bleeding into the grass and that essentially being a life source for the realm, the youngest daughter having bruises from being drug around by a dude hundreds of years older than her. trust me, the original tale is wayyy darker than the Barbie version
I have a theory that may be false. The Genevieve from this movie is Queen Genevieve from Princess and the Pauper. The similarities are there and if she’s a widow then Derek must have passed already. *exclude the fact that Mattel can’t come up with new names and uses the same character base. This is just a fun thought *
Genevieve knew right away that Rowena couldn’t be trusted, so Preminger duping her in her old age is just ... sad. Plus, this is a movie all about sisterly love; it saddens me that Old Woman Genevieve will go through that alone.
@Letícia Lopes If it was true then I am assuming Genevieve moved to a different castle with Derek because it’s a different castle. The other 11 sisters may have stayed with their father until they married probably.
@@katherinelynch4193 I mean if it was true then things happen and you’re vulnerable. Also Queen Genevieve is probably in her 50s by the looks of it. She isn’t as strong mentally when she was 16. The death of her husband also affected her making her more vulnerable.
Best moment from this movie: the parrot says something like “the last man who spoke to Derek like that was never heard from again.” And Derek’s like “That’s not true!” “Oh, right, they did find his shoe.”
They call that rotoscoping. Or if using cgi they'll use mocap. But it's a very common thing in animation both 2d and 3d. For example some dance scenes in 2d disney movies were almost always rotoscoped or even traced from a previous Disney movie.
16:43 In 1518 there was a bout of mass psychogenic illness called the Dancing Plague where people would dance uncontrollably. Yes, some people died because of this. It was a real problem.

The red shoes is originally an old folk tale, but she didn't dance to death in the tale. Because she couldn't take off the shoes a dude choped her feet off and they danced away. She joined church and died there.
Thinking about the time I was in second grade and my teacher held movie days for us where she let one student choose what to watch and I brought in the dancing princesses Barbie movie cuz it was my favorite at the time and at the end of the movie she crushed my little heart by telling me the movie might have been “too girly” for the boys. That was her only comment and it affected me so much that I remember it so many years later.
“Dark for no reason” Boy... you don’t even know the half of the actual fairytale Also, I’ll be editing this comment multiple times and there’s nothing you can do about it
The original was written by the brothers Grimm. It’s not as dark as expected, but it’s certainly different. The twelve girls go to a magical world where twelve princes dance with them for three nights. By the end, all princes are cursed for dancing with them and now have to live with it for the rest of their lives. Also, the eldest princess is forced into marrying someone who pretty much ruined their lives by taking away the magical world and separating them from the ones they truly love
@@daz1717 the original might not be as dark, but almost every other adaptation of the story is much darker. I’ve even got my own that I’m writing with a few different people that has a much darker twist

@@katherinelynch4193 I did notice that too, particularly with Kathleen, but you can only really see them close-up. From far away, however, they nearly look like one color, while Genevieve ALWAYS sticks out, regardless of distance. 😉

There was no murder cousin in the original story, just some older peasant spying on princesses with an invisibility cloak.
He was the HERO of the story, btw...
I love how the royal docto as soon as he heard that the king was sad and that's why his condition got worse was like "oh there's no cure for that lol see ya later"

Maybe the reason why the king's wife died is because of Lacey's birth.. they got too much children
I think it was hinted she died birthing the triplets.
@@SairinEarthsea I think the triplets remember her though
How about Janessa and Kathleen their mother died too because they are both Lacey’s older triplet sisters
in the original tale (which is a common German fairytale I grew up with), the mom was supposed to marry a dark even king who had 12 sons, but since she ran away and married a different prince, the elf dude cursed her to have 12 daughters, one for each son, and danced the mom to death once they were all born. then, once each daughter was old enough to walk on their own, they were forced into the other realm to dance all night with their prince. they end up getting saved by the 4th eldest (Barbie on this version) and the prince who liked her as the basically slaughtered the even princes and their father. there's more that goes into it, little detail like their feet bleeding into the grass and that essentially being a life source for the realm, the youngest daughter having bruises from being drug around by a dude hundreds of years older than her. trust me, the original tale is wayyy darker than the Barbie version
Woah so interesting... Could you please write the name of the tale?

The names of the sisters are alphabetized: Ashlyn, Blair, Courtney, Delia, Edeline, Fallon, Genevieve, Hadley, Isla, Janessa, Kathleen, Lacey
@@katherinelynch4193 Omg, I never noticed😂
Nah matel just cant come up w new names 💀

What’s so cool is that they animated the dances in this movie off of real dancers
They call that rotoscoping. Or if using cgi they'll use mocap. But it's a very common thing in animation both 2d and 3d. For example some dance scenes in 2d disney movies were almost always rotoscoped or even traced from a previous Disney movie.

“Dark for no reason”
Boy... you don’t even know the half of the actual fairytale
Also, I’ll be editing this comment multiple times and there’s nothing you can do about it
what’s the actual fairytale??
The original was written by the brothers Grimm. It’s not as dark as expected, but it’s certainly different. The twelve girls go to a magical world where twelve princes dance with them for three nights. By the end, all princes are cursed for dancing with them and now have to live with it for the rest of their lives. Also, the eldest princess is forced into marrying someone who pretty much ruined their lives by taking away the magical world and separating them from the ones they truly love
