The computer game shop in town was just like record shops were years later. I even did all my university work on it in the late 90s before eventually calling it a day.
Yep - got hold of a 1040 STE in 2018, and just this summer I spent an inordinate amount of time just getting a USB optical mouse to work properly with it. It's a lifesaver, and I can now play Carrier Command the way I always wanted to. The mouse issues with mechanical mice in general, defined that era of computer use. Excellent system.
I played Dungeon MaSTer all the time on my 520ST when I had it back in 1987. I got the DosBox version for the PC and STILL like to play it. One of the best games ever made!

I would sneak into his room when he was asleep and play Lemmings till stupid o'clock in the morning with headphones plugged into the tv. There was a block falling game called Klaxtrix. Speedball 2 was probably the most playable and flawlessly animated ball game on the ST. It had those weird pinball effect and perfect control of the players.
@@guts6157 heck no, not IK plus, it was unplayable. There was no strategy possible just a random chance of doing the right type of strike at the random right time unplayable.
I saw adverts for the Atari ST with game bundles in Acorn computing mags (in the UK) and being awed by the graphics. It was a glimpse of the future! That was before we got an Acorn Archimedes in 1989. It's a shame that the Atari ST versions of games like Lemmings don't have the full tracker music like they did on the Archimedes and Amiga.

My favourite games on Atari ST were Gauntlet, Chariots of Wrath(strange and difficult game), Wizball, Paradroid and the game in which the teddy bear collected donuts(I don't remember the name). Another ones I liked were RAC Rally and Rolling Ronny.
Good collection of games there. Other greats worth mentioning are Mercenary II, Frontier, Zool, Return of the Jedi, Rainbow Islands.. I also enjoyed on of the last games ever made for the ST, Pick n Pile. I still own boxed originals of some of these games, a working 1040 STfm, and a 520 ST.
The most impressive ST game i ever saw which is NEVER shown in these videos was a true 3D game were you controlled a spaceship flying over a planet. The dynamics of the flight were about 10x faster than any flight simulator game, it really looked like it couldn't be possible to have full real 3D at such fast update frame rate. I don't remember the title but it was mouse or keyboard controlled and the space bar controlled the spaceship thrust. Gravity was extremely realistic and speed was phenomenal. You sometimes had to dog fight an alien ship. The difficulty of the game was to not crash due to gravity.

I never understood why so few early 1980s games were released for the Atari ST. I remember back when I had an Atari 8-bit, I was considering upgrading to the ST. When I looked at the games available, I realized that I would not be able to play any of my old time favorites. Games like Donkey Kong, Defender, Dig Dug, Robotron, Ms. Pacman, Tempest, etc. were not available. I think that is when I just decided to upgrade to an IBM PC and give up on the gaming PCs.
Outrun and Chase HQ, but no Lotuses or Crazy Cars III, seriously? Pac-Mania plays okay but it's hard to get past the graphics and screen size once you see the Amiga version. Otherwise mostly pretty good.
Why do some of the games have weird different music? Is it a licensing thing or some other reason. Ghouls and Ghosts as an example on ST nothing like the usual music on most systems. My dad had an ST but I don't remember the music being weird in games.
