I doubt the Shanghai lockdowns were a serious threat to Land's life, but they would have at least been pretty embarrassing to be on Twitter during. This is specially true when this was the period when his birth country (UK) went from having a cringeworthy initial response (albeit still not as absurdly over the top as the CCP's) to becoming the first developed state to treat covid as, effectively, an endemic disease. There has been a lot of discourse about how the soft authoritarianism of the cultural left in the modern west is comparable to living under a regime like the CCP, with some even arguing that the CCP is less bad for managing authoritarianism in a more competent and less degenerate way. I'm not sure to what extent Land himself actually promoted this discourse, but it certainly made his decision to base himself in mainland China seem more credible. Particularly during the Shanghai lockdown, but with zero-covid policies still continuing, it's now much harder to argue that the CCP is a lesser evil, and that might explain part of his Twitter absence. (Depending on far it goes, ironically Musk's Twiiter buyout is likely to be another example that the west is not as far gone as some people believed.)
elon musk is not going to make the twitter platform neutral... the guy cant even have an interview with someone that is not a yes man. The only interview i have heard with musk where he was challenged on things- he said he would walk mid interview. Twitter will just become bigger, like meta and wechat is.. still a hellscape.
I wouldn’t say nothing will change. I think censorship will be noticeably reduced, though of course not completely eliminated. Shifting the censorship lines should significantly keep doors open to conversations which will gently reduce political polarization. Sure, some fringe people who want to endlessly throw around the N-word might get a slap on the wrist, but do we really care?
I tried reading one of Nick Land's essays and it was so fucking pretentious I couldn't finish it. He did introduce me to Moldbug though, so I thank him for that
The greatest Philosopher in the world? Yes Nick Land is an important thinker. But most importantly what does the great racist Philosopher in the world think about Ye?
@@new-dk6vk Huh. So either you're too dumb to know you're shooting your own cause in it's hypothetical foot, or he is. Actually, that's not true, there's a solid chance it's both
I'm literally shitting my pants with excitement at this news, thank fucking God Nick Land is alive.
We're going to be drowning in emails every time he takes a summer trip to Antarctica until the sun burns out.
Might as well pop in to say I am looking forward to you covering the rest of Capitalism's Transcendental Time Machine.
