Not a weed in sight. By the time I get back to our gravel roads I have 2ft of pig weeds and grass on each side to cut. Ugly ugly. I mow a week then blade then haul gravel. Oh, no mechanic. Gets challenging. No OT allowed. I dream of roads like yours Mark. Love you videos.
@@carlarichards375 I am pretty lucky I do have to deal with weeds in some other townships I do but this one I mow 3 times a year plus they spray ditches which really helps I also blade the township every two weeks so I keep my roads in great shape definitely helps to stay on top of them which is hard for you with no overtime and limited help. I’m happy to hear you got them to get you carbide edges do you know where they got them from? Happy you love the videos I thank you for watching!
Great video!!! I’m so damn jealous of how straight and wide your gravel roads are…. Most of ours are hilly, twisty, and narrow…. Narrower, narrowest….. and occasionally a proper 2 lane🤣
Hey buddy I’m for the most part caught up from all the flooding still got a couple of roads to fix up yet I’ve been busy training and doing all my grading and mowing ditches thanks for watching!
I have a question. I get what we call "frost boils" in the spring. We get 100ypm annually and I have a hard time with them. I have tried cutting deap and re-laying, pulling materials from the shoulders.. but the boil comes back, and reappears the next year. I have hears from other operators that is has to be dug out and new material put in. We have alot of sleughs (ponds) too, these like to happen right between two ponds. Ild love some advice on this topic please.🙏🏼
@@BenJaMin-zs4tt I know what your dealing with all to well and unfortunately the main reason we deal with frost boils is not enough gravel over the subgrade also having good quality gravel is very important if water goes through the gravel surface into the subgrade will cause frost boils and as far as fixing them the only way I’ve had success is by using a geo textial or fabric to separate the gravel from the subgrade or else dig it all the way out bring in new material but that’s still not a 100% fix we have used the fabric in a handful of slough bottoms and have never had another problem it’s expensive fix but it is a permanent fix. Hope this helps and thanks for the great question and thanks for watching!
I wonder if you could give me some tips on how to do a four pass finish blading a gravel road so my employer has a procedure in place that they want us to follow where we are only blading in the same direction of traffic. So they want us to blade one side from the shoulder to the centre turn around and come down the other side blade from the shoulder the centre leaving one single window in the centre so my question is how do you cut that window in half to blade it back to each side of the road I found a pretty challenging to to do and end up running out of gravel on my last pass on the opposite side of the road ? is there any tips or pointers you can give me on that be very much appreciated I’ve got a lot of good information from your videos but I’ve never found a video that you put out about a four Pass method doing it this way
Well I honestly don’t have any experience doing that four pass method if I had a little advice I’d recommend trying to get as consistent amount of material in the center of the road as you can that way when you got to spread you have consistent material to lay out I hope this helps you a little bit thanks for the question and thanks for watching!
Thanks for your reply, I believe it is someone sitting in an office with little to no experience who made this change. Quantity over quality to cut fuel costs and wear n tear maintenance costs most likely because at the same time they cut our 10 hour shifts to 8 so no more paying us overtime yet still expect the same 8 to 10 miles of road per day? Fun fun! Well I guess we’ll get er figured out. Thanks again.
@@darcymerrick9627 I would agree with you on someone sitting in an office making that decision I honestly prefer the way I maintain roads better then your four pass method I can get 20 miles a day making two passes so 40 miles a day I consider that pretty good for a 10 hour day even if I cut road all the way out and relay it still get 10 miles a day thanks for watching!
Did you guys go back to all deer ? We had a bad run this summer with cat. We had 6 of them sitting in the compound for two months with only 2 working most days we even went a hole week with only one working. Bad turbos , wire harness like 5 of them ,injectors and even an ecm. After all that we demoed a 872gp and decided to keep our junk as the deer didn’t impress us at all
@@DanaW-wf4kh no I still have the Cat machines I have one township who has the Deere machine I definitely prefer the cat machines it’s one of them deals where this township has always had Deere so pretty hard to make the money jump to cat. Thanks for watching!

Thank you and yes I’m pretty lucky to have nice straight wide roads to maintain I know others like your self aren’t as lucky thanks for watching!
Some roads I make room inch by inch every time I do maintenance 😉
At least I convince the commish to get carbide, love them. I was changing blades out every 30 to 40 hours. Always true..
Hey there, Mark, good to see you at working again. Have you got all caught up from the flooding from earlier this summer?
