Im really glad I found your channel. You’re helping me get into this Hobby and pick the right stuff and I can’t thank you enough. Always stoked when you drop a video.
Kinda but not so fast..ive been into rc for 40 yrs and what you and many others do is abuse the cars and equipment and call it durability testing which was never a part of rc prior to this RTR era..when you sat down and built you a car and chose and installed your own electronics you would never send it off of a jump 15 feet into the air and belly flop the chassis onto the asphalt and think it's OK or a part of what you do with a rc car, bashing does not mean and has never meant totally beating hell out of vehicles
@NonameNoname-lm2zg I have built a ton of Tamiya cars and trucks. I'm a huge Tamiya guy. I love building them, I love painting them.. I love everything about Tamiya. Just replace those bushings with actual bearings and they're great. I've built a bunch of my Traxxas vehicles, but if a build it yourself option wasn't available, I'd buy the roller version so I could build out my own esc, motor, LEDs, transmitter/receiver, etc. combinations to my liking. Those cars are my babies. Some are shelf queens, some get used a lot but I never beat them up intentionally. However, if I'm buying an HBX, MJX, or another cheap beater.. I'm going to the skate park and having some fun without worrying about breaking my car. The hobby isn't just what YOU think it should be, it's whatever an RC enthusiast wants it to be for them. Some love speed trials. Some love crawling. Some like doing flips and tricks. Some are into boats and some are into aircraft. Some people love the build and electronics (this would be me.) None of these are the wrong way to RC, they're just different. You've been an enthusiast for my whole lifetime.. I am 40. You've seen trends come and go and the scene change probably dozens of times. That's just the evolution of the hobby. You shouldn't look at it as a bad thing, you should look at it as a good thing. The more RC fans there are, the more people will be buying RC cars. The more people buy RC cars, the more money RC makers like Traxxas or Tamiya will have to come up with new stuff.
I enjoyed your review and test runs. This is one of your more thorough evaluations of a truck. I hope you and your family have a happy and healthy new year.
I found you can buy an extra set of shocks, unwind the pre-load collars all the way, and it soaks up landings beautifully. Not to mention more shocks giving more equal pressure on the arms during landings prevents some of the flex that breaks outdrives
I actually like the tyres not having much grip. Can even powerslide and drift on asphalt, which is fun. Of course if you where to race the rthing, slippy tyres is bad, but for just drifting around, it's super fun.
Yes I like sloppy tires too, but these were really bad for jumps. There’s barely any foam in them. Just overall bring the truck down I think. I have plans to revisit this truck soon with some upgrades!!
Very unique truck. Just like anything in that price range the shocks and tires need upgrading if you want to use it as a basher. Perfect car for speed runs and flat tracks. Awesome video! Great job!
Very cool Even!! I do agree it seems fast and if not getting Derby City Bash tested it would be strong as a TANK! Good thing on your tests is you see what abuse can be taken by these RCs. I would agree on the tires and wheels. I think better and moderately bigger tires with foam inserts would be an amazing difference especially when launching and landing big air jumps and flips! Enough of my rambling, great video as usual Even!!
I have had this truck for a bit. I recommend doing the shocks for sure. If you upgraded to the 3s, you need the pinion gear. I would also recommend upgrading the drive shafts going to the tires. I spiral broke the stock ones from the step up in torque from 2s to 3s. It's got way tooooo much torque for its own good, too much fun though. In the right conditions, you can pull a double back flip easily.
Jeez Evan, where do I start? This rig is ridiculous! I like it a lot! I do think you made some valid points though, namely the tires. These most definitely need to have some foams in them in my opinion, might help with some of those brick drop landings😝! It looked like it would jump well for the average jumper, as your jumps are way beyond average. I like that it’s planted so well. Like you said; it would be awesome in an open field for sure. I think hpi really did a great job thinking outside of the box on this one , but in doing so missed a few things that should be inside the box😂. I still love it though! I want one. That El Camino is One nasty looker!😍🥰 As always awesome review video!
Thanks Robby! Ya they did a lot right and missed a few more obvious things lol It yes for average jumps she should be good with better tires and maybe a bit thicker fluid since it’s so heavy. The el Camino is awesome I agree!! 😎😎👍👍🤘
I love the savage trucks I've got five of them including a mint XL. Was it just my imagination or did the right rear shock fall off when you turned the truck around at between 12.55 and 13 mins? Cracking little truck though and good review vid 👍
id put fling king jr tires , rpms rod ends and rebuild shocks with viton orings . im a nitro guy but with some upgrades thats one heck of a truck ! im gonna upgrade to a new controller (from a sanwa m8) to either a flysky noble what do you think of them ?
Thanks for the recommendations! I don’t have any controllers other than stock units and DumboRC ones so I can’t speak in flysky just yet. Heard good things though!
Nice and honest review again, buddy! Not as upbeat this time, but it suits the truck just fine. Yeah, I guess it's almost over engineered, still pretty cool, just lacking a bit to reach the level of Arrma for example, and of course that Rival... Nice to see...
Thanks!! Just experimenting with my video styles. Yes it’s a bit over engineered in some places and under engineered in others. Lol looking forward to doing a few small upgrades and trying again!!
Did you ever find any aftermarket shock options? Specifically that plastic eyelet that holds on the bottom of the shock. I broke both sides of rhe rear twice already just doing small jumps and a couple low speed flips. I bought a couple of the parts kits and it just spins off so its easy enough to replace but im gonna be out of parts soon if this keeps up. lol Seems like a major weakpoint on an otherwise durable and fun truck. I have seen some videos of people bashing them pretty hard without that shock eyelet breaking so i dont know🤔 Definitely would like to get something figured out so it doesnt keep happening.
Nice little truck! There's a bike track at Turkey run park behind where the big silo is! This thing would be killer there! I just converted a Tmaxx to brushless and may hit it up myself lol
Thanks buddy! As usual, another great... what do i say.. i think its the BEST savage xs flux review on the youtube!! Hope you enjoyd the little basterd😊 it is pretty fast indeed!

Such a compact little truck! I miss the old Raptor body that used to come on this truck but the American El Camino bod just looks awesome.
I’m sure the raptor was cool too!
That little hiding spot for the e.p.a. tool is so simple but genius
That thing rips! Looks like another great option
