Come On In! New Entrance to Portuguese Paradise

- This week at my off-Grid Paradise is all about finishing the Entrance Area and the Gate! I am very excited about the Swedish Linseed Oil Paint that I use for Coating the iron to protect it from corrosion. We have very hot days now in Portugal, so I am spending the suffocating hot afternoons on the river. Thank you so much for all your support and ideas, I appreciate it. Stay cool!

Ps- the white cement paint I think is what the Portuguese call Cal, and English lime-wash. It’s the traditional paint here in Portugal, you can buy powder pigments like blue…ochre…terracotta…green.. and you can make them as diluted or dark as you want, so many shades from one pigment. It ages beautifully with time x

Girl, you need some power tools! #1 thing to get is a cordless mini chainsaw with a holster, it will zip through those thicker branches or trunks like butter. Then get a cordless sander.

During summer you could move some stones to create a deeper swimming hole, we did it every year, in 42c after gardening it was worthwhile.

I have also a small river crossing my land - but nothing compared to the beauty you have found. You are also so full of positivity and enthusiasm - reminds me of when I first arrived here. I love the river is very peaceful. The entrance turners out great. I can only imagine after you finish renovering the house and cleaning the land how beautiful this property will be. ❤️
Fantastic video and job on the gates great colours very classic and classy looking! And great job painting the wall etc! I've never thought of using white cement to paint with! Great idea! So much cheaper than white exterior paint! Even if you had to redo it every year it probably still works out cheaper and a LOT quicker! Plus id imagine it bonds with the cement underneath so should be durable like you said! (You could always add a clear weather proof sealer over the top to seal it and prolong the life and colour I guess?)
Anyhow love your videos and little homestead! It's exactly what I've wanted to do for the last 3 years but had plans on hold due to the restrictions! Hopefully I can make it happen in the next year!?

I just love your talent and through persistence to complete each job so well. Yes before I moved to Australia fifty years ago I lived in a five hundred year old farm house in England and I remember using "snowcem" which is just what you are using on those gat walls. Love your work.

Hi Maya, I love that you sing and dance, and are always so cheerful. It makes me feel happy and joyful and I thank you so much for that! You are a beautiful soul! To give a little folklore about the "cal" you are using for the walls, Portuguese women in quaint villages take great pride in keeping the outside of their homes freshly painted and decorated with potted geraniums. It was a friendly competition to see whose home was the prettiest. It was done once a year right before the local festa. ❤😇

Pro tip - put a piece of tin foil over the edge of the paint tin when you pour paint out. It keeps the gutter clean of paint. Loving your Chanel so watching from the beginning.

Hi nice chanel. You must to clean your part of the river because it is clogged of sediments, take out the sand and small stones and it became more beautiful.
Maya you have done a fantastic job on the gates and white washed walls, I am envious of the stream in your garden, maybe learn from beavers and build a little dam that allows some water through to make a deaper soaking pool the fish will still find a way through.

The healthiest way to paint the stone, rock and concrete white is lime, add edible oil and salt for good adhesion, greetings from Turkey.

Hi Maya ! Greetings from Peru. I love your "abandoned piece of paradise". The entrance looks great now... Congrats. May I give you a suggestion: Use disposable plastic or latex gloves when accomplishing your projects. Believe me, once you have finished your work day, It is easier on your hand skin.
